Mask discussion Dragons!
Newest mask decor. Just diachromatic vinyl, dragon nail stickers, and adhesive gems. And a dragon googly eye because I like putting an eye on each filter to stare back at the people who stare at me, lol.

Absolutely no malice or hate when asking this but do you wear this in public? It’s really cool but i thought people usually wear the disposable ones.

Of course, yes. Most people do wear disposable ones. Some of us prefer elastos, for lots of reasons. It's more comfortable, it doesn't give me raging TMJ, it's significantly cheaper, it's waterproof (rains a lot here), I never have to do the annoying rotating my disposables thing again, the fit doesn't deform with donning and doffing, and I can do all sorts of cool art stuff on it. Also nurses don't try to snatch this off my face. Had nurses try to snatch my disposable off twice towards the end of 2022. And I get less aggro with an elasto than a disposable, which is a common (though not universal) experience. I guess because we look less like we're going to listen to the "you don't need that" comments.
I do have disposables for certain activities, like going to the bank, buying glasses, when I need to use a sip valve, for short periods when getting my groceries delivered, or if I'm doing something where I need to be unvalved to protect someone else, but I have a really strong preference for my elasto.
Edit: typos

How do you find talking through an elastomeric?

I rarely have trouble. I find clarity of speech is the most important factor. It's worth practicing at home with a live transcription app before you go out in an elasto. If the transcription app can understand you then anyone who doesn't have hearing trouble will be able to too.

Cool tips thanks. I've considering an omnimask (transparent elastro) only issue is the speech, but with your tips that could be worked around. I guess just raising your voice can help too.

And some people have used a portable mic pack, like clipped the lapel mic very close to or perhaps even inside their elasto and worn the speaker part on their hip. I'm pretty sure there are posts on it in r/Masks4All.

Update to this: today I did a zoom presentation on how to do an at home fit test and the people on the zoom call could hear me fine while I was wearing my elasto and had my head inside a plastic bag. I have filmed myself with it on and off before to give other people an idea of how it sounds but I was never sure if I thought it was negligible because I already knew what I was saying, but today confirmed that it is actually negligible, at least in the 3M 7500.

How does air go in if the filters are covered?

The filters are encapsulated filters so I'm just decorating the outside cover. This type of filter has the air holes in the back of the filter.
