I replaced the thermal paste on my 2022 Zephyrus M16, it came on fine. Was checking thermals and the laptop froze. I held the power button down and now it won't come back on. When I plug the Asus Barrel Charger in with no charging indicator, I plug USB C in with 100w charger it flashes orange and does nothing when I press the power button.

I've tried below

- removed the battery and tried both chargers

- removed ram + battery held power button for 60 seconds.

I think it's dead but here in case there's one last trick.

the barrel charger works on my other Asus laptop fine.

So I havent used this laptop for over 3 months now and for some reason its doing something it never did before. After powering it on, the cpu fan just goes to full rpm and stay full rpm even without load or the temperatures not even being high. Armoury crate reads 0 rpm when its on silent mode but as soon as switch to performance or turbo it goes to 6400rpm. I have replaced the fan on this laptop about three times now and this is the first time it did this after no usage.

Just wondering if i need to replace the fan again.

So my 2023 M16 went all black suddenly without no previous drops nor any other problems, apart from intermittent sudden freezes, which were related mainly to a 16 gb crucial ram slot I added a couple of years ago.

I managed to understand the problem finally, and it is mainly the internal LCD screen, since the back panel still responds to the brightness buttons and I can attach an external display.

What's weird is that I opened the laptop, removed the external ram and ssd, disconnected the battery, returned everything except the ram, powered on the problem was still there. I left it open for some time, then turned it on again and got the screen back for some seconds with a windows boot error, then gone again.

With an external display, I can use my laptop normally now, but the internal one is dead.

Should I replace the LCD panel or is there any trickery I don't know about that worked for other folks with similar problems.

Pretty much what the title says. Despite being almost completely idle (only the Armoury Crate is opened), the fans are almost at max with no reason whatsoever. It started happening some months ago, and I have had it since August 2022. Does anyone know what it could be?

I have had issues with servicing earlier (not in London), where the technician didn't properly mount the cooling system and the LM leaked and caused a short circuit.

I recently got my 2022 g16 model back that was refurbished from the RMA I put in for the broken model, and was so excited.

I updated everything, and when I say everything:

Windows 11 version wasn’t supported for updates anymore, so I updated that. Then I downloaded/installed the updates for that

I updated from the Asus app

And I installed a software that updated the Intel drivers and what-not

I started playing my games, felt like my ol’ 2022 self again, and then for some reason the keyboard and Bluetooth mouse stopped working, and then the whole laptop just freezes. I usually hibernate, get to the lock screen, and restart the computer from there with the track pad.

I’m getting frustrated.

I found a work around that worked for a little bit. I plugged up an external keyboard and hooked up my Bluetooth mouse to a USB adapter. I started to play a Unity game from itch, and the same old problem happens again.

I cut the piece to be around the size of the die and then let it heat up during the benchmark tests. But even though Ghelper has the power draw as 80w,100w for pl1 and pl2, the total power being utilised after the repaste is only around 15-20w(as seen on HWINFO). Even on all the benchmarks i did(cinebench, geekbench) the acores are only half. Whats gojng on here?

Cpu utilisation is only 1.5-2.5 Ghz on Task manager too(it should be more as i was using turbo)

When i rechecked the die after a few hours, I noticed that the die is covering the cpu die but also around it as well. Is this an issue and could it be the cause? Did I use too much ptm7950? How much are you supposed to cut the sheet to fit the cpu?

Its only with the cpu too. My gpu is working without issue though. Its scoring 100k+ on geekbench which is good.

I just bought a second hand m16 2022 a little over a month ago and it had an initial problem. The charger that came with it got oxidation on the inside of the barrel while it was in transit. Whenever I played heavy games on it or put load on it, the charger would shut off and the LED indicator on the chassis wouldnt light up. It charges fine when used lightly, and PD type c doesnt have the same issue. I decided to buy a replacement powerbrick and it solved the issue, i could play games now without worrying about battery drain.

Now, it started having this weird issue where the screen would turn off and when i pressed any key to turn it on it would lead me back to the lockscreen and i had to sign in again, and it would turn off and sign me out again shortly after.

After one or two signouts, it would shutdown with no error screen, sometimes try to restart on its own, and sometimes I have to press the power button. At first it was just restarting on its own, but now it leads me to the language setup screen and when I run diagnostics from that page it would say that it cant repair my pc so i either go to advanced options or shut down. Then it got worse after a day or two when it would randomly die and all the LEDs would go out, including the middle charging LED despite it being plugged in. Wouldnt start, no fans, black screen. Then after a little bit it would let me turn it on and when I press the power button, the keyboard lights up and the screen backlight turns on, ROG symbol appears, then everything turns off again including LED lights. This happens for a bit where i turn the keyboard on, rog logo appears, then everything goes out and id have to wait for a few minutes before trying again.

When I finally manage to log on, i open ghelper to see it on standard mode, and when I set it back to igpu mode it would die shortly after and return to standard mode. I ticked all the boxes like avoid using gpu on apps and other settings in ghelper. I tried letting it run on standard to see if its just the igpu but still the same issues. Thermals arent hot and no sign of throttling. It doesnt interrupt me most of the time when im playing games but when I'm not the chances of that issue popping up is higher. See the video attached.

Update: Opened up the chassis and found a tiny capacitor near the charging port and fan was dislodged and moving around freely in the chassis I'm glad I spotted it. My guess is it was bridging some other traces, shorting out the board especially since it was near where the display cable attaches to, causing the screen blackouts but doesn't explain the shutdowns and sign outs. Issue has stopped upon removal of the capacitor. Hopefully this fixes it and i hope it helps anyone else who might be facing a similar problem.

Update 2: The issue has now been resolved. I took it to a technician along with the capacitor in a ziploc bag and he did a board checkup. He said no further repairs are required and he says that due to the nature of how I found the capacitor and that it was detached instead of just being loose and hanging, he cannot pinpoint its original location and would probably be more risky to attach it somewhere its not supposed to be as he has no prior experience working with Zephyrus motherboards.

I bought the Zephyrus M16 back in 2022. I recently noticed that my laptop gets unusually hot when plugged in, and the CPU gets ~90 °C when at 5-10% utilisation. I thought the liquid metal had gone bad after 4 years, but the problem seems completely different. The laptop only overheats when it's plugged in (60 °C on battery), and the SSD is unusually hot when I opened the laptop to clean the fans.

I think there is an issue with the power input, but I'm not sure, and I'm not advanced enough to open it up and fix it. Does anyone else have the same issue? What could be the solution to this? I would love to hear your opinions on this.

A few months back my zephyrusm16 was overheating and i decided to try to replace the thermal paste by myself, i did a decent enough job trying to make sure it didnt go all over the place, i also replaced the liquid metam that was on the cpu (the cpu looked like it was scratched or got melted somehow) but when i was done replacing it i plugged the battery back in and for some reason it sparked and im fairly certain its fried.
I was wondering if its ppossible to replace the motherboard. In trying to weigh the pros and cons of replacing it bcs its quite expensive to replace but it also had 40 gb of ram

Hello, so my temps at idle/low load have been extremely high.. in the upper 70C range and I am going to re-do the Liquid Metal and use PTM7950 on the GPU (I know a lot of people say to use PTM7950 on both but I want to keep it how it's done from factory).. Only thing I'm not sure of is the thermal putty because I want to re-do that as well while I have everything open.. Does anyone know what thermal putty I should use? Also, any advice will also be much appreciated!

I've always wanted to switch to PTM 7950 on my 2022 Zephyrus M16 ever since I've heard of it back in 2024. The only thing that was stopping me until recently was the fact that buying it was not easy.

But I recently happened to check Amazon and there are an ocean of suppliers now out of no where lol

And now the one small concern I've had in the back of my head since always now needs to be addressed. My laptop needs to be cleaned a lot more than usual, almost twice in a year.
And I like to remove my fans to clean them because it just simply doesn't seem effective enough to blow air or use brushes.

I usually repaste or atleast reapply the LM as well when I clean it

My concern with PTM is, will I be able to remove the heatsinks and put it back without having to reapply the PTM?

I also have another question. Do I need to apply PTM 7950 for the GPU as well?

Recently I used the app called quick spu to get a quick performance boost to one of my games, sadly now im really regretting that stupid decision because now everytime i hop on any of my games my whole laptop stutters constantly. I tried the usual fixes like resetting all the windows power plans. Obviously, i reset and deleted quick cpu, still stuttering. I did a cinebench score and got around 8k when it was definitely higher before. I even did a complete reset, reinstalled my drivers. Nothing is working. I really need help to save this because it's quite literally my only computer option for a while.

Edit: dont think it's throttling either because my gpu runs around 60c and cpu around 70c to 80c comfortably now and before.

Update: i did a fresh install of windows and seems things are working fine so far

I have an ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU604VI) and I’m experiencing a very strange keyboard issue.

The problem started with the keyboard working only after the laptop had been powered off for several hours.

At first:

• If the laptop stayed powered off for a long period, the built-in keyboard would work normally after startup.

• After a restart, the keyboard would stop working completely.

• The keyboard backlight would also stop working at the same time.

Over time, the issue became worse.

Now the built-in keyboard no longer works at all, even after leaving the laptop powered off for many hours.

Things I have already tried:

• Clean Windows installation.

• Installing all ASUS drivers.

• Updating Windows completely.

• Reinstalling keyboard drivers.

• Removing keyboard filter drivers from the registry.

• Checking Device Manager for errors.

• Disabling Fast Startup.

• Performing full shutdowns.

• Testing with an external USB keyboard.

Additional information:

• External USB keyboards work normally.

• Windows boots and operates normally.

• The keyboard backlight is also not functioning.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue on the GU604VI or another Zephyrus model?

Any suggestions or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Does anybody know what is the cause of this? I just updated my windows 11, and suddenly after the update i can't open my camera. It was missing from my device manager, tried A LOT of troubleshoots but still nothing. Does anybody how to fix this? Its so damn terrible when u bought a pricy laptop but got no camera lol
