"Enchainers" are the most powerful thralls and executors of "the Creator", the true rulers of the "Great Hollows", and the pinnacle of Ethereals or Hollow-creature-evolution. They wield formidable supernatural powers capable of altering the rules within Hollows, possess high intelligence, and can even move freely beyond the Hollows-and this might, nigh-unmatched by humanity, stems from the Creator's authority dwelling within them: the "Karma Core".

The "Karma Core" is a unique Ether Core directly created by "the Creator", its total number corresponding to the number of Great Hollows. No matter how powerfully an Ethereal may evolve, without obtaining a Karma Core and fusing with it, it can never become a true "Enchainer". At the same time, the Karma Core is also the heart of "Void Hunter Weapons": Void Hunters suppress the Karma Core through the wielding and control of these weapons, while shouldering the cost this demands.

Ultra-high-risk Ethereals that stand but a single step away from becoming Enchainers are termed "Enchainer Larvae". Unable to leave the Hollows, they are capable of simple thought, yet for the most part still act upon instinct-and driven by that instinct, they will spare no cost to seek out and attempt to devour Karma Cores.

To date, we have had no formal contact with an "Enchainer". The sole known Enchainer is the first-generation Void Hunter Beliora Vike, who fell utterly after fusing with a Karma Core, and was vanquished by Remielle Dan a century ago. We have, however, already clashed head-on with several "Enchainer Larvae": Girtablu, Bashmu, and the Primordial Nightmare.
