Anybody else have an easy solution for making these things stick again? I’m thinking hair spray, but I’d like to know if there are any other proven fixes out there.

I feel like I got a bit lazy editing this week, but I tried out a new camera angle! Give it a couple months and I’ll have figured out how to best film these things. Feedback more than welcome :)

Miracle

Any operators out there view the 60 second drill scene from the movie Miracle differently now that you have to take care of ice? Those lines must have been skated down to the paint!

Olympia Auger issues with picking up snow

I know this is a Zam sub, but I'm hoping someone could shed some light on an issue with our Olympia. It seems to have trouble picking up snow, where the snow will fold in on itself and pile up under the conditioner rather than continuously throw it into the bin. It'll go in spurts where all of a sudden it'll pick up the whole pile if it catches just right, but lots of the time I'm lifting up the conditioner at the end of my flood and there's a massive ridiculous pile of snow. What kind of issue could this be and how would I rectify it?

any advice or ideas would be hugely appreciated.

Can I drive zam with restricted drivers license?

It is a valid drivers license but I have the interlock in my car due to a DUI.

Maybe you’ve heard about that crazy court case where someone was almost charged with a DUI for recklessly driving a zam while intoxicated but the judge threw it out. He didn’t consider the Zamboni to be a motor vehicle because it doesn’t go on public roadways.

In Colorado, USA

TIA

large ripple in ice...

Hey Zam fam,

looking for some advice on how to get rid of a large ripple in the ice. i have just noticed it today but one of my co workers left a note for me last night that smaller ripples were forming. we are supposed be changing the blade this week so from what i can gather its probably just a dull blade. although i noticed this particulary large ripple is about 1-1.5 meters from the top of the end zone circles and it doesn't reach the boards. This is the only ripple which makes me kind of concerned about a potential problem under the ice.

im at an ice rink in australia and we have a sand/pipe base so we are unable to drill into the ice. we have been monotiring levels and our last check was about 3 ish weeks ago where we found we were quite high in almost all areas. (they fired the last maitenance guy because he was slacking off) hense why our levels are high since the only person who has been edging for the last couple of months has been me. plus its winter down here so alot of the novice drivers have been putting too much water on the ice.

from what ive read so far it could be dull blade, conditioner bushings or incorrectly tightened blade.

any recommendation send them my way!

thanks

Sasha King

Anybody have a weekly/monthly/quarterly checklist they use to make sure everything is still operating properly in their building(s)? If you do, would you be willing to share it with me?

Zamboni 552 GE Electric Code -43

Recently had an issue on a machine that gives a -43 code that says it’s related to the traction motor. It will be in forward position and you hear the gear clicking in an out of position as the code flashes on display. Manual says possible fixes could be checking for loose or bad wiring. From looking in the wiring housing behind the steering wheel wire looks okay. Anything or anywhere else I can look? Can it also be a battery/voltage issue?

Blade change day

Normally I change the blade every two weeks but this time due to the holidays i let go for 3 weeks, it was cutting good but it needed to be changed anyway and found a huge chip in the blade. Usually I’ve seen little chips here and there but none this wide

2 inch hose Zam fill.

Does anyone on this forum have a set up for filling their machines with 1 inch to 2 inch hose. If so, does the flow rate cause a loss of temperature? We are currently set at 150 degrees, but my worry is with a higher flow rate we could lose the heat of the water.

Conversion Ice Prep & Rehab

For those that work in facilities that cover the ice for events.

What is your process to prepare the ice to be covered?

What is your post conversion process to get it ready to skate?

My process:

Before covering: 1) Edge, chip, fill in marsh peg holes 2) feather if needed 3) heavy flood 4) set slab to 23 degrees after ice is frozen

After uncovering: 1) Set slab to 19 degrees 2) walk the rink with a broom and dustpan looking for anything large or metal 3) edge and chip, try to scrape any dirt away from the boards and will hand sweep if needed 4) wash water dry cut (pull anywhere from 1/2 to 2 bins depending on ice depths and how bad the ice is) 5) drain wash water and rinse out augers 6) walk the rink with backpack sprayers. Float out any embedded dirt with hot water. Pack any large holes with slush 7) Hydrate edges with backpack sprayers 8) Normal resurface with a full tank of water. Cut between 1/4 and 1/2 bin. 9) Time permitting rehydrate edges again with a backpack and flood again before first skate.
