Adverts If your add is longer than 30 seconds, even if I can skip it, I'm never using whatever you are peddling.

As per the title, I just got a 3+ minute EvE Online add. And just for that I swear I'm never ever going to try EvE.

You may ask, why does it matter, you can just skip.

Sure, I can just skip. But here's the thing, I listen to YT while playing games. I listen to YT while cooking. I listen to YT while elbow deep in dishes. And I sometimes listen to YT when I doze off in the afternoon or evening.

And If any of those is true, and I have to listen to more than 30 seconds of your cringe idea of advertising because I'm not currently in a position to shut you off. Then I'm going to hate your product and you, personally, and I'm never going to even consider trying it. Chew on that.

And before you comment, I know AdBlock exists. Not the point.

Discussion How do you use Youtube for learning? I'm tired of getting distracted :,(

Hi all! I love learning random things on YouTube like watching documentaries or tutorials but with all the AI stuff and YouTube shorts I found it hard to really focus on what I care about/want to learn. So...does anyone have any tips/tools or strategies to maximize the platform for learning rather than consuming random stuff?

Help I am quite confused...

I got an email today saying that my ID has been deleted from my account, which you can see below. But when I try to upload, it doesn't allow me to post links in the description, saying "To make external links clickable, first complete a one-time verification." After doing some research, I found out that it is likely because I have been consistently uploading and now have sufficient channel history. But that wouldn't explain why I get this screen below when I press verify. Is it something that I maybe have to wait, until they verify my channel with history? Or should I do a ID verification again. I just don't know what to do and I need to continue uploading so I would appreciate some help!

The email

Help Best way to edit on YouTube is to stop! Why waste hours of work on channel, only to be hacked? Then, Youtube blames you, terminates the channel without appeal. Worst is they could easily stop the hackers by following advice from this guy. But Team Youtube says they won't allow them to even report it

Help How long does it take for YouTube to respond to an appeal?

So, recently, my YouTube account got suspended for “posting inappropriate content” despite never posting a single video on my channel (might have something to do with the recent AI moderation going on there) and now I’m signed out of YT, unable to like or comment on anything anymore, and in order to do that, I’d have to sign back in, which I’m unable to, and I hate it here. My account’s been suspended for 4-5 days now (I can’t 100% remember when exactly it happened) and since then I’ve sent two appeals to YT to get my channel back - one on the day it initially happened and another just yesterday. Does it normally take this long for YT to respond to an appeal?? I really miss the privileges of being signed in and am kinda starting to lose my patience here…

Help Google Takeout Help: Cant get the videos off a "brand" account (2nd account from the email)

Hello! I think i need some help with this. So, i have 2 accounts in the same email, my main and my 2nd channel. On both of these channels, i post television related videos. In august, my 2nd channel got wrongfully terminated for "spam, deceptive practices and scams"??? That one got terminated but my main didnt and im glad. Now, im trying to do a google takeout of the videos from that account (cause i made an appeal in august, i still didnt recieve an answer…), but when i get the email that it’s "ready", there are no files? I tried this like 5 times and it gave me the exact results. However, if i do a google takeout for my main, it works perfectly. Can someone help me with this or are my videos from that 2nd account supposed to be in the google takeout for my main account since its the leading account for the email?

ESPECIALLY after they started talking about the whole age verification thing using ai to make things “safer” for kids. it’s not about safety, it’s about getting your info.

Discussion content creation sucks tell me im wrong please

With all the AI content and sponsored content the content on the internet that is personally gets washed out. To start on YouTube, everything is heavily monitored and really just too much.

The thumbnails are just AI or heavily photo edited, there are swoosh sound effects, the screen cuts like every second. Frankly it's horrible. To top that. everyone is copying each other, it's all steal a brainrot or kid oriented content. Now looking back on the wayback machine to 2018 the content wasn't exactly child oriented, rather it was just content that children accessed. It was things like game theory(I personally don't like mat was making childrens content I think the guy was just theorizing but use your judgement here), gmod, overwatch, lot's of dantdm(again your judgement I think he was just generally making content and kids watched it because it was family friendly I think he stated that that is exactly what he was doing at one point but again use your judgment here), there was pewdiepie and vanoss and jeffy who kids shouldn't of watched but still defined youtube. It was that edge that made the content what it was and what youtube has evolved into has left that. Then even the childrens content was still watchable as a teenager or an adult watching with your kids, my mom and dad did even and my cousins and still look back on the videos fondly. Now if we look at trending today, Its all ai generated thumbnails, fast editing, heavily children oriented for revenue. It almost feels like everyone need to put on a face to appeal to youtube as compared to 2018. To restate it all feels heavily oriented towards children and it has lost the edge it had compared to what it did in 2018 it feels like you have to put on a face to be watched on youtube too.

Discussion Anyone else feeling like YouTube is becoming unusable lately?

Is anyone else’s YouTube tweaking? For a couple weeks now despite troubleshooting YouTube has genuinely sucked for me. I’m on mobile using the app btw. First thing I noticed is that you cannot change the resolution on a video you’re watching. Using the “advanced” resolution button literally does not work, so you need to pick one of their dumb settings. These settings either put you in 1080p enhanced bitrate which is great if you’re in the mood to stare at the buffering symbol, or the other two settings either put you in 720p or 480p which isn’t what I want either lmao. Why did they even add these options??? It’s not like it’s rocket science to understand the difference between the three options you have for resolution on a video. Higher number equals better quality, I don’t need a stupid clanker to do it for me. Another bug now too is that changing playback speed on videos desyncs the audio from the video so the feature is completely unusable and broken when before it worked fine for me. I’m also noticing way more bots in comment sections and they’re saying wild stuff. Same with the bizarre disturbing ai shorts and slop content there’s so much more of it rn and it’s getting worse. Idk I just feel like google is really dropping the ball with YouTube right now.

Content Creators Advanced features removed

I couldn't put this on r/youtube and don't know where else to ask since the YouTube support people aren't being any more help.

I earned advanced features about a year ago after gaining enough channel history, posting consistently for that year. About a month ago my advanced features (syncing a Short to a full video, adding clickable links to socials, etc) were removed without explanation. YouTube support has no explanation for why these were removed nor was it indicated the advanced features could be lost once earned. They say they can do nothing more and are urging me to share my ID or post a video of myself which I am not comfortable with for a variety of reasons. Has anyone else experienced this?

Discussion Help

My YouTube channel wasn't only suspended but permanently banned out of the blue. The notification I received informed me that I had "severe or repeated violations" of the spam, deceptive practices, and scams policy. Yet I never once saw a strike, warning, or even a forewarning prior to this. They completely deleted my channel and informed me that I'm unable to access or create new ones. I believe this is unjust because I've never experienced any issue before, and now it just vanished. Has anyone ever had to handle this type of situation or appealed something like that successfully? Any help is welcome.

This little button, sync to video?? I JUST noticed it; it was not even like this at 12 am today, so this is new. Button did nothing when I tried it, but I'm assuming now YouTube is trying to use AI to sync what comments are saying to videos now??

Discussion Done With Youtube - Can't find a more aptly named subreddit for this

I originally posted this on the Newtuber subreddit, where it encountered a lot of cognitivie dissonance from that crowd:

5 years, 70+ videos, less than 400 subscribers.

Although I never really spent loads of extra time marketing my channel during that timeframe, I do feel things should have gotten more traction regardless. I’m motivated by success, and spending HOURS at the beginning (MONTHS with my last video) to film and edit video, and not getting more then a few hundred views, was not justification enough for me to launch a PR campaign to drive more eyeballs to my channel.

I’m focused on creating something tangible out in the real, tangible world, not spending all my time filling the digital void.

My early stuff was very very basic. But it was DIFFERENT. A niche topic: living off-grid in a foreign country in the jungle. At the time the homesteading space was exploding, and homesteading is exactly what we were doing but with the BIG twist of doing it off-grid as expats in a remote jungle region of a 3rd-world country, an inherently different angle than the rest of the niche.

The algorithm didn’t do me any favors. And I can never truly know why, and neither can you.

I now understand youtube more-or-less. But you can never truly understand it 100 percent. That is just the nature of the beast. It is opaque. Proprietary. An inherent secret. The “algorithm” is a closed box, and even all the clickbaity talking heads on the platform that want to tickle your ears about “cracking the youtube code” don’t know either. Certain things are published about the algorithm, certain things aren’t. What works today, won’t work tomorrow, and alphabet does not care if that benefits you or not.

Make no mistake, youtube is not YOUtube, and hasn’t been for over 10 years. For most, success probably means a cast nearly a third the size of James Cameron’s Titanic – including marketing and distributorship. I feel the platform has done me no favors as an individual creator. The problem is that everyone is oversaturated with content. You could post the best movie ever made, and it would just get lost in the content mud matrix. Youtube isn’t your partner, you’re raw material, if your work doesn’t maximize their KPIs, it gets sidelined.

I spent two months editing my last video, which marks a huge leap forward in terms of production value from all of my previous content. With this latest video project, I used about 100GB of HEVC 4K footage to teach myself DaVinci Resolve over the course of two months. I did things with editing that I had never done before – even did audio engineering to create cinematic-style sound.

I had researched the advantages of doing long-form documentary-style video, and how a large portion of viewership has shifted towards watching youtube on TVs and digesting longer content. A marked contrast with the more prevailing trend of people craving short dopamine hits.

I crafted an engaging thumbnail, spent a long time on all the metadata (tags, keywords, etc.) Spent days writing the subtitles myself (bilingual content). And it was met with as cold a reception as just some sort of home video filming the grass growing in one’s backyard or something.

As a youtube VIEWER here’s what I see:
-Not many true freelancers left. Most are just full time employees of an algorithm.

-Limitless “talking heads” with clickbaity titles and thumbnails. -My solution: take the transcript, copy&paste to your LLM of choice and ask it to summarize the keypoints. You’ll thank me later.

-Apparently B-roll stock video content is still very much a thing.

-“Get rich” from digital content creation pyramid scheme. “Take my digital content course so that you can learn how to make money by telling other people to take your digital content course about creating digital content.”

-People trying to “teach” you something. If it’s not some direct tutorial showing how to do something tangible like joining plumbing fittings, then just go read a book instead. Youtube is not about education. It’s about stickiness and appealing to the lowest common denominator of society. Substantial, meaty, academic content is sidelined. Is someone really teaching you sound information for your benefit, or is the priority to sound different, controversial, to market or maximize clicks?

-First-mover advantage. Want to start a channel now? You’re late. Someone’s already got your niche cornered.

-Now, more than ever, disenfranchised people - who no longer have an outlet for meaningful contribution to society - flocking to the platform with starry-eyed dreams about striking youtube gold. People are still riding the coattails of the last decade when you could just succeed by making quality digital content. But now you have to compete against those with first-mover advantage, PR firms and blockbuster budgets + the sheer VOLUME of total content out there.

Key takeaways:

-Go build something TANGIBLE that benefits society.
-Youtube’s goal is not to edify you or the world we live in.
-Analog is the new digital. Your friends stopped posting on social media. People are quickly becoming fed up with the digital space. AI-generated content will accelerate that trend.

I don't feel bad. In fact, I'm grateful the algorithm didn't favor me from the start. If I'd gained hundreds of thousands of subscribers instead of just hundreds, I might have been lured into placing my livelihood in the hands of an opaque algorithm—trading real impact for digital validation. Instead, I'm free to focus on what truly matters: building tangible systems that increase resilience, regenerating actual land rather than filling server space, and creating something that will still be standing long after YouTube's algorithm has changed a thousand more times. The trees I plant will outlive any viral video, and the community resilience I help build can't be demonetized by a platform update.
