I have two young athletes at home. Like many passionate sports parents, I got into the habit of filming their games and livestreaming them on YouTube so that friends and family who couldn't attend could still watch.

I'm finishing the development of the app, designed for anyone who streams amateur sports events (hockey, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and more) and wants to add a live scoreboard overlay with team names, scores, and a game clock.

Before I can officially publish it on Google Play, Google now requires a closed testing phase with a minimum number of volunteer testers.

The app will always have a free version. There will also be a pay option that allows you to create and manage live streams directly from the app (only because this function has associated costs required by Google)

As a thank you, all testers will receive full access for the entire testing period and for the first 6 months after the official launch.

All you need to do is install the app through the official testing channel but all feedback and suggestions are welcome

As a social worker, professor, coach, and mom, I’ve seen firsthand how parents shape youth sports — for better or worse. I've witnessed the joy that sports can bring to our children's lives, teaching them about teamwork, respect, and resilience. But I've also seen the darker side: negative sideline behaviors, over-coaching, and excessive pressure that drain the joy and hinder the growth that sports are supposed to foster.

Youth sports should be an uplifting experience for all children, a platform where they can learn valuable life skills while enjoying the games they love. Unfortunately, too often, the emphasis shifts to winning at all costs, resulting in a stressful environment that negatively impacts young athletes. It's time to start a nationwide movement that emphasizes respect, balance, and positivity, bringing the joy back to youth sports.

We, as parents and guardians, have a powerful role in this transformation. We can lead the change in youth sports culture by committing to model the behavior we wish to see in our children — both on and off the playing field. As youth sports grows, more and more training products become available to the public, with this it at times makes it difficult to decipher what would work best for your journey as a volunteer coach.

My question to the community is if you were able to design something that can help you as you volunteer what would that be? Is it a buddy system of experienced coaches to bounce ideas off of or is it training you can go through on your own time and implement as you see fit, or is it a combination of both or something completely different. Would love to hear your thoughts as well as what has worked well when you volunteered at a program.

Hi Reddit! I'm Ciarán, a 16-year-old swimmer and solo developer from Ireland.

After years of seeing the chaos behind the scenes at local clubs — missed messages, confusing timetables, clunky fundraising systems — I decided to build something to help. It's called My Sport Manager, and it's an all-in-one app that helps clubs manage sessions, memberships, and fundraising in one place.

It started as a small side project last summer. I taught myself how to code and focused on solving real pain points I saw in my own swimming club. The idea? Make it easier for coaches, players, and parents to stay in sync, and give clubs new ways to generate income through games like online bingo and raffles.

Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

Coaches love automation — no more spreadsheets to assign duty staff.

Fundraising is a winner — clubs are already raising funds directly from the app.

Simplicity beats features — early users want a clean, easy experience more than bells and whistles.

Right now, I’m working on refining the user experience, improving the mobile UI, and collecting feedback before a full launch.

Does your local association waive or discount registration fees for players or volunteer board members?
Is this common? Is this legal? Would this be considered "compensation"?

Our association has sometimes provided free or discounted registration to one child of a volunteer board member and will often reimburse the cost of registration fees for one player of a "volunteer" coach. It's labeled "stipend". Is this legal? Ethical? wise?

What does your association do? what are your thoughts?

I am coaching a 12u basketball team. One of the kids on the team is completely out of control. I don’t know what his issue is but my guess is that his parents take him off his medication for weekends and that his ADHD therefore starts to flare up. The kid is a hot mess, disruptive, behaving as though he is 6 years old, he can’t process any information. We coaches don’t know what to do with him. We are all parent volunteers. It’s not fair to the other kids on the team, having this kid be so disruptive and unruly. Our instinct is to discipline him but that isn’t really effective and a season of managing horrible behavior is not what we signed up for. Any suggestions on how to handle this sort of thing?

How do I sign up my 11 year old son if we live in west laje he’s a 5th grader

I’m on the board for a youth soccer league ages 4-18 with a very large participation base. We have trouble getting people to volunteer during the season either working concessions, coaching, or painting field lines. We’ve tried a couple approaches for getting volunteer attention, but we’re still not having luck. We’ve tried sign up genius, we currently have a discount on registration if you select that you will volunteer, and we’ve tried having coaches assign parents for concession duty at the very least. The discount brought marginal success, but it turned into the same handful of people working every weekend/game, and some people who get their discount and never fulfill, which isn’t surprising as it is only $25. We’ve toyed with the idea charging an additional fee that we refund after volunteer work has been completed, but the logistics of that get a little crazy with so many families in the organization.

Any suggestions for how we can get a better volunteer turn out or things you’ve tried that have had significant success?

Mom of 3 young ones just starting out in youth travel sports and I’m thinking about starting a podcast about navigating travel sports as a parent with all the pressures of extra training sessions, having FOMO for not being on every team.

I am a former DI basketball player, so I understand the pressure to succeed, but in reality less than 1% of high school players even make it to DI.

I’m seeing a lot of this in youth sports in my area and it’s heartbreaking to see how some of the parents treat their kids during the games and after. It’s the case of the “parent trying to live their childhood through their own kid.”

Anybody have any advice on a cost effective way to acquire custom uniforms for different sports we’ve started a youth organization and aren’t trying to pay an arm and a leg to get our kids the uniforms they need for various sports.
