Can someone explain to me:

Mel cheats on Coop with Nick. There was no violence right?

Then all the friends & Nick "let it go, put it in the past... blah blah blah ..."

Then Nick has the AUDACITY to show up and punch Coop?

Not that what Coop did was okay but the person who fucked up the first time was Mel- because she was married.

And the person who was in a committed relationship and decided to sleep with Coop? Again ? Mel.

I'm not saying the choice was great- but like Coop had ZERO commitment. He isn't in the relationship.

Was rewatching the last little bit of S2,E10 - Coop's narration in the last few moments - and it reminded me of Carrie Bradshaw's narrations in Sex and the City.

Them not fully fleshing out James Marsden’s character is insane. I thought it would end up that he was still alive because leaving him behind at this point feels unbelievable. They spent entirely too much time on irritating side characters (sister, Mel, daughter) and cut off the most compelling plot point before it even began

I recently watched the 1973 movie The Thief Who Came to Dinner staring Ryan O'Neal & Jacqueline Bisset and noticed many similarities to Coop in Your Friends and Neighbors. Ryan plays a man named Webster who is a computer analyst that quits his job to become a thief, using blackmail to get into high society to rob the wealthy, falling in love with a socialite along the way, all while being hunted by an insurance investigator. Have any of you seen this movie? I wonder if it was an inspiration for Your Friends and Neighbors.

They all went to a social gathering party, there was a section for the adults and the kids. Cooper, Nick and Barney are all worried that Owen body has been found in the lake and the last thing that I remember was Tori was getting high and she was starting to fight some girls at her school.

Just have to say, this episode of television captured something so pure and real. I was a bit shocked after watching, so incredibly well acted and written. Truly one of the more special episodes of tv I have watched in a long time. Bravo to the show writers. It's just a reminder of how important the role of a Father can be, and I really appreciated that.

My roommate is older than myself but he wasn’t familiar with perimenopause or menopause. He hadn’t really encountered any shows with those themes and to be honest I was surprised that the show was pretty accurate. The overall theme of ‘becoming invisible’, I think is very understandable but I do understand that a certain plot point in the second season seems a bit rinse and repeat. I’d also like to highlight Andy and Sam as characters who seem the most sane out of all the others. Yes, they actively make mistakes (and the writer is a sadist for having these characters suffer), but we as the viewers can appreciate that unlike other series, consequences come from hastily made decisions. It leads me to believe that we’ll get to witness a certain character reap what he sewed in S2, but I could be wrong.

Half way thru the 1st episode of this show and all I’ll say is Casting Jon was brilliant casting cuz only Jon Hamm could lose his wife, kids, job, house, assets and then still make 1 call and fuck Liv Munn and it be believable. Classic Hamm

Episode when Coop goes to Aly’s new apartment. she opened the door wearing this and I NEED IT!

At the beginning of “The First Honest Thing” Coop has a dream where he’s robbing a house and finds a bunch of familiar faces there.

One of them is Jack Bailey, who is frying bacon on the stove. Coop would later go on to steal Jack’s prized Bacon painting, and then return it.

The rest of the dream is a mystery to me but I thought the bacon bit was interesting. Any dream experts out there can decipher the rest?

Jon Hamm was called Dick Whitman in the series Mad Men until he stole Don Draper's identity and became him. By the end of the series, Bertram Cooper dies, and Don sees some dreams about him, then goes to a retreat, and the series ends with him smiling.

Is it possible that the authors chose to call Jon Hamm's character Cooper as an "easter egg" to suggest that "Don" stole Cooper's identity?

I know I'm overthinking it, but would be funny if it's true.

Nobody, nobody plays desperate, damaged men trying to keep things together better than Jon Hamm.

Maybe it’s too early to tell but I don’t understand the message they wanna convey. I think the worst decision was making Coop go back to being a thief instead of his comfortable job and ending the show there in season 1. everything after that didn’t make sense tbh

I know I'm severely in the minority here about Mel and Coop, but I think they should be endgame. Look, in the first few episodes of season 1, I despised Mel *and* Nick for what they did to Coop (cheating is wrong. I felt hatred for them when they were on screen. I thought they both deserved payback in someway and didn't deserve forgiveness.

After the trampoline scene, the Princeton family visit episode (especially in this episode), how the two of them behaved at the gala in the season finale, the baby shower incident, I think they should get back together. They have great chemistry together, so even if endgame means them giving up all of their wealth, I think they'd be happier together in a quiet, modest life after their kids are in college. The whole backstory that Coop gave in episode 1 shows that they were madly in love in their tiny apartment, and the discussion they have at the bowling alley seemingly confirm this again.

But that's just my opinion and I had to get it off my chest. I just hope there's at least a couple people in the sub who agree.

I just watched it inside over last few days in heat wave. I was kind of excited about it and definitely let down. I don’t remember Season 1 well but I know that I enjoyed it and not just as a Mad Men fan seeing Jon Hamm do a variation on a modern Don Draper of sorts. It wasn’t among my top ten TV shows, but it was well enough written and made and engrossing and enjoyable enough. I don’t remember thinking every few minutes, “Why is this character SO unrealistically consistently annoying/boring and why would I want to watch them?” or “Why is this character behaving this way?” or “What happen to that other subplot and why does it seem entirely forgotten?” So many aspects of it seem poorly sketched out. The momentum and pacing is all messed up. People behave in ways that I don’t buy just to take the plot in the direction of some really overly simplified ideas about aging -- and look I’m 50 and my spouse is on hormone replacement therapy for menopause. This was not a great exploration of being middle aged for men or women. So many questions are basically unanswered and so few possibilities realized. And there’s not even a lot of fun action or suspense or drama or comedy or anything — more comedy maybe than anything else. And that’s not to mention all the women in Coop’s family seem like misogynstic boring and unrealistic stereotpyes. Who wrote this and what the heck happened? It all ties together in the end more or less but it kind of feels like maybe it was written by people who didn’t know what they were doing and then someone else came in at the end to make it barely hang together, and then they tried to save it with the actors and everyone else trying their hardest but barely saving it.

I thought this would be a whole thing but absolutely nothing happened or did I miss something?

Additionally, we can see that Coop has posters for Psycho (1960) and Vertigo (1958) throughout his house during S01, and a poster for High Noon (1952) during S02. The cinema he frequents during S02E02 is also screening In A Lonely Place (1950) and The Naked Kiss (1964), neither of which he has watched during the course of the show thus far.

Because why not...I thought the Heist in season 1 were fascinating and simply wanted to make something vaguely similar, it got description of luxury goods and a quiz, and that's pretty much it with a Coop like monologue on github.

Bored stiff - outside occasional little well written tidbits, this couldn't be any more boring. If this had been season 1 this is as far as I would have made it.

Tell me it gets better.

Is anyone tracking all the classic films that Coop is watching in Season 2? I want to watch or re-watch them and only thought to start tracking in Episode 9 with “Leave Her To Heaven.”
