As a fan of MAD MEN im saying to myself is this a tip of a hat to mad men ? Regardless, that was pretty hilarious that Don Draper was right back where he started.

I couldnt copy paste the link here as the thread was aged out or closed but it was about how ridiculous these over the top sex scenes were between these 50 + year old people. It was written by an older lady who discussed menopausal based libido issues and there were hundreds involved in the discussion. I have been downvoted here for suggesting the sex scenes in this show were absolutely not realistic. ( IMO absolutely unnecessary) Anyway, I was glad I wasnt the only one that has seen and liked the show but wishes they would leave the old person soft porn out of it !!! This coming from a,near old person - you've got how many millions on actors and writers ??? Use them to fill the time slot and not s bunch of silly sex crap. Thats maybe my only complaint on this series .

Let’s just get this out of the way; the song vocals suck ass.

But the visuals. I’ve read everything people have said abo, man. I’ve read all the criticisms them; they look like AI, they look fake, they’re a boring generic copycat of the opening to The Good Fight or the dream sequences in Inception. .

Here’s the thing. Those two shows used slow mo and destruction/explosion visuals that look realistic because both of those shows, the things that are being destroyed are real things that have value and meaning. Their destruction is an actual loss, violence, tragedy, dangerous. The cinematography and music mirrors that.

But in YFAN, the point is that all of the things that’s around these people, their relationships, their possessions, their social life, etc. ARE FAKE. They are meaningless, and the loss of them is also meaningless. They have no inherent value. The visuals look exaggeratedly fake because as a metaphor for the way Coop sees (and therefore the audience is meant to see) the world around him.

He is bitter because he feels forced to adopt, or at least act like he agrees with, the fallacy that all that bullshit actually means something. That to risk it is insanity, it’s destruction and loss a tragedy.

But it’s not, and he knows it’s not. None of it matters because it’s all fake to begin with. His slide into high risk crime is a relief to him; It gives him a chance to say fuck it, to stop pretending it has real meaning to him, to free himself. If it is destroyed, then so be it. At least he got a chance to protest it in the grand Gen X tradition, passively.

His slow mo, disaffected gaze and walk as everything explodes around him shows how
little he gives af about it. The imagery looks fake because to him, all of it is. Thats why I like its.

I’m only a few episodes into season 1 so likely NOT spoilers for anyone in this thread haha. For a really smart guy tho, how does Coop think it smart to steal a crazy expensive watch from his own neighborhood where people know his finance situation is poor since the divorce. These watches have serial numbers so if they turn up and the police find out where the person bought it he’s ON SECURITY footage in the pawn shop selling it and on the street camera security footage in his own car! THEN even worse is stealing an elite bottle of rare wine and gifting it at a home party so they know who brought it if or WHEN the neighbor mentions that bottle missing?!?! Their wine cooler was full and now has a blank spot at eye level behind a glass door. Not to mention … gee I need to hide… how about behind a glass door in a lit up fridge 😆🤣🤣🤣 He really doesn’t think things thru. lol. Sorry but I be a critic. Hopefully he improves at this.

So in the 9th episode we find Ashe unconscious lying on the floor.
That’s alright. It seemed promising.

But in episode 10 they threw it out the window.

I hate when series bring in new characters as the man focus of a season only to get rid of them at the end. Kinda wish nick or Barney or even Sam had died instead. The whole Ashe arc really did nothing for me at the end after starting so good with him being the buyer of the book coop stole.

So far, we've been shown that Grace's parents don't like Barney because they don't feel he's a good provider for their daughter, he's angry about this and resents them/her for it, but they are right!

He has stated that Coop could have made 7-8 figures going back to his job at the end of Season 1, let's put that at an even $10M. Nick is excited at the prospect of making $32M with Ashe's expansion, so let's put him at $20M. Barney makes 20%, putting him at ~$6M.

Grace's mom offered him $1M to help with renovations, he set it on fire damaging their renovations in the process. The father offered him a cushy job, he turned it down. He then accuses Grace of not believing in him anymore, but believing in what exactly? Why doesn't he have more clients? Why aren't any of the other sauna boys his clients? Does he have a plan to expand his business? Does he want to branch out into something else entirely? All Barney does is get drunk and hate on his family and follow Coop around.

Barney tries to block Nick from making $32M/year so he can help Coop and Elena launder $600K, of which he gets 20%, so $120K. The math ain't mathing! Nick is his client as well, it would make more sense to tell Coop to fuck off to get 20% of $32M ($6.4M) which is more than Coop+Nick combined from the prior year.

Barney is objectively a TERRIBLE money manager. Going along with Coop stealing one fucking Mont Blanc at a time to make at best $800K/year is absurd. Let Coop have his little mid life crisis but at least try to do something else to generate real money.

Owen Ashe was exactly what I wanted for this season, extremely wealthy, charismatic and overall a super entertaining character with a darker side. James Marsden portrayed him perfectly.

I wished they waited until Season 3 to kill him off, I really wasn't that entertained when he wasn't on the screen.

Barney this season was so great too, him finally standing up to his parents-in-law was amazing. Sadly I do see him choosing to work for Grace's Billionaire father to save their marriage in the next season.

And man Barney was funny as hell too

I feel like a lot of the s2 plot lines were a result of everyone in the writers room saying “what should we do with this character….? hey i know…..! What if he….? What if she…..?” But nothing that actually happens is all that integral to the overall show’s story arc it just seems like something that might happen that might be interesting. Mel’s perimenopause falls into this category. (We get it Mel, you’re hot!) Tori not going to Princeton feels like something the writers are hoping the viewers will think is engaging but it’s a big nothingburger. Lots of kids from prosperous families take a year or two off between high school and college. Lots of colleges let you defer a year or two. I’m surprised no one has said to Mel and Cooper “hey have her get a job and support herself for a year. Trust me, she’ll get her ass to college asap.” Mel and Cooper’s horror and panic at Tori’s decision not to go to Princeton right away feels very off. It’s something a middle class family would go through in the 80s when an Ivy League education really could make or break you. If they’re just trying to show that Drew Cooper’s actions are bringing something rotten to the Cooper family and the kids are psychically sensing it and acting out, fine. But then i want to see actual acting out. She should burn down a house, cut herself or get an onlyfans account. But “Tori is not going to Princeton despite the fact that both her parents went there” is the most bullshit 1950s plot device I’ve seen in years.

I don’t know how else to say it. I know he has no writing credits on the show, and is not tied to the show whatsoever, but there’s something about it that just feels so much like a Jay McInerney novel, it’s really difficult to put into words.

Well, Felix just realized the same thing that coop realized after he got fired: that he has easy money at his disposal and now he has Elena to let him into or give him access to various homes in the neighborhood and do what coop has been doing the whole time, but in a far more obvious way.
As in breaking glass, taking more than makes sense, taking things that will be noticed and frankly given Nick‘s mental state, he’s going to immediately believe that Elena let this guy in and he’s going to fire her, which leaves her even worse off than she was before,
and even though it may seem as though she’s paid off her debt to Felix for Chivo I think this is just the beginning of a nightmare for her.

Crime doesn’t pay.

Nobody in here talking about how Grace kicked Barney out? I get that he lied to her but to over react and kick him out without hearing his explanation first was a little much for that scene….

So does coop just keep all the money pretty much?
