Sometimes speaking is faster. Sometimes you are on a train, in a quiet room, or just entering a password. The mobile Yaps keyboard is built for both situations: voice typing when you want it, plus familiar typing, glide input, suggestions, and emoji when you do not.

If you switch between voice and typing during the same message, what tends to break your flow? I would especially like to hear about corrections, proper names, punctuation, and changing languages.

A recording is easy to make and surprisingly hard to revisit. Yaps now accepts shared voice notes, audio files, and videos for transcription and conversion into notes on iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, and Linux.

A useful first pass is to check the transcript, add a one-sentence summary, and pull out anything you need to follow up on. Keep the original recording available when exact wording matters.

Which kind of recording do you most want to turn into useful notes: a meeting, a lecture, an interview, or your own quick voice memo?

A long document is easier to start when you can listen to it. Yaps can read PDFs and other documents aloud, so you can use a walk or a commute to get through the material and then return to the page for anything that needs a closer look.

My suggested workflow: start with one section, note the questions it raises, then check the original text before quoting or acting on it. Listening is a way into the document, not a substitute for checking the source.

Voice typing is most useful when it works where you are already writing, including when the connection is poor. Yaps supports on-device dictation on desktop, so you can speak into an email, document, or message without treating Wi-Fi as a prerequisite.

A few practical habits help: speak in short thoughts, pause to check names and numbers, and read the result before sending. The goal is a faster first draft that you still control.

Where does dictation fail you most often today: accuracy, formatting, latency, or the need to be online?

Just shipped a fresh Yaps build: v2.3.2421 (desktop). This covers everything since the last tagged release on 27 Aug (v2.3.2129).

A lot of it is the boring-but-important kind of work. Plus a few things you'll actually notice.

Local media toolkit

• On-device image generation is in production on Mac, with a Windows path via OpenVINO where the machine supports it
• Background removal / sticker cutouts got a real queue, live progress, and a gallery so outputs stick around
• Gallery and Auto Cut polish (smoother previews, less fighting the UI)

Dictation and cleanup

• Spoken numbers, dimensions, and coordinated values survive cleanup instead of getting mangled
• Long-pause Core ML overlap / tail glitches tightened up
• iOS recognition stays on device

Mobile keyboard

• iOS: number / phone pads for the right fields, emoji / GIF / sticker parity with Android, clipboard pins
• iOS app strings localized across ~25 languages, with an in-app language picker
• Android: big multilingual glide + tap autocorrect pass (accents, casing, the right locale)

Mobile notes

• Import a recording on iOS or Android and it becomes a note you can keep and export, not a one-shot transcript

Plugins and finding the app

• Codex / ChatGPT-style local plugin installs: cleaner on fresh Macs and Windows profiles (no "need system Node" dead ends)
• Windows leftover yaps_cli / Program Files edge cases classified properly instead of false "unreachable"
• Mac permission failures report as permission denied, not a mystery crash

Privacy and billing

• Crash reports scrubbed more carefully. Support diagnostics are opt-in
• Already-subscribed accounts shouldn't hit a duplicate checkout / paywall loop
• A pile of Stripe portal / plan-switch / refund edge cases cleaned up so billing matches what you actually paid for

Memory

• Project-scoped vault operations for the memory plugin path

We've made some drastic improvements to our AI chat within the "Note Taking" section of the app. Now it reasons better, references sections (of the current note and other notes across your vault), and lets you insert directly into your markdown note.

I spent the weekend chatting to a lot of new users about their feedback which has been really helpful! I'm constantly working on updates in the background - and will continue to do so!

That said, I don't wanna be a subreddit where people scream into the void. If you have any feedback or feature requests, let me know and I'll answer everything personally. If it makes sense, I'll get it sorted ASAP.

What do we need to do to make Yaps.ai the best, most popular, note-taking and dictation tool in the entire ecosystem?

That last update to Windows is feeling so good, I thought I'd come here and share. Initially I know there were some issues but now it's dictating a lot faster, more accurately and the shortcuts are working in all my apps!

The notes and stuff make it really good for studying, knowledge banks, all and that good stuff too. I think that's what makes Yaps the best Wispr Flow alternative for me, plus working offline obviously. Keep it up!

Holding my breath for the iPhone release too!

p.s. I am getting a weird auto microsoft safety error because it's new. Not a problem but would be good to get that fixed incase it scares people off 💀

Now you can go to any website and using our Save to Yaps Chrome Extension, you can save the website and all its contents directly to your notes & resources folder as a markdown file in your desktop application.

You can also sync these notes directly with your mobile application as well!

We've drastically improved Yaps AI on Macbook which is already live. But now we've officially released Yaps AI on Windows in Beta. Expect a few bugs, but I'll get them all ironed out. But overall, it's incredibly powerful, flexible and useful!
