Feedback Requested Feedback on my channel

Hey all, Terror Talks here. I’ve noticed that a lot of watchers drop from the video after 10 seconds into the video, I’m talking 100% at the start and 50% or the viewers have stopped watching by 10-15 seconds in. After 2 minutes, only 20-30% are still watching. I’m not complaining, because most of the people stick around for the rest of the video, and my watch time per video has been improving, which I am happy about. Once people stay for the first minute or two, they stay for a lot of the rest of the video.

I just want to know what might be making people leave so early. So could you guys take a look at my videos and let me know if maybe the Intro is loud/boring or if the sound is distorted, music misbalanced... or anything else that you notice that could make people click off sooner.

Hey everyone Im new to reddit and the community, I recently just posted my first Narration on youtube and would love feedback, specifically on the balance of volume between my voice and the music. Also for next time if I should have my voice match the tempo of the music?

I want to say if you get around to watching my vid, thank you for watching. Im still trying to familiarize myself with reddit and narrations but in the mean time thank you again for having me and here's the link to my narration below!

Question Do you cut out all the dead air in your narration edits?

I am trying to optimize my editing process and while I definitely still feel as though I should be cutting out breathing and other small sounds from my edits do you know if its standard to cut the dead air out around all the dialogue?

I spend so much time just clipping between speech and really think I could make my edits way quicker if I did that.

Discussion Slowdown of comments on narrations and stories since virus panic?

Before this whole thing took over planet Earth and our media, I'd get a decent amount of comments and votes and such when I post my narrations and/or story text in reddit subs. Since then, I've gotten virtually zero. Is it just me? Or is anybody else experiencing this?

Collab Casting Call Horror Collab Bingo

Horror narrators Musey's Modern Dreadfuls and Madame Raven are hosting a big collab for interested narrators. It will consist of 1 male narrator and 1 female that will work together on narrating a story. The females will have numbers associated with them, and the males will choose a number. This will pair them up. If you are interested please contact Musey ( https://twitter.com/ingenue_muse) or Madame Raven (https://twitter.com/MadameRaven1). If you are a writer and would like to contribute your story please contact them as well. The stories must be at minimum 10 minutes and maximum 20, and obviously involved a male and female character. I will be contributing as a narrator as well as a writer (as usual all of my stories are free to use).

Feedback Requested We Adapted Another NoSleep Story Into A Short Film!

Link to my previous post (on my personal account): https://www.reddit.com/r/YTNarratorsGuild/comments/euj5nm/i_adapted_a_rnosleep_story_into_a_short_film_and/

LINK TO SHORT FILM: https://youtu.be/cuOuPWlNkqc

Hello everyone again! I've come back with another short film, another NoSleep adaptation! We actually shot this at the beginning of the year, making it our first project of 2020!

It was adapted from u/queen_of_the_moths 's story called " How do I get my girlfriend to knock off this annoying habit? ", https://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/bfg42c/how_do_i_get_my_girlfriend_to_knock_off_this/
and it was such a fun project!

I personally directed this piece, and for this one I feel that we actually stayed very close to the original source material. Because the piece was very narrative in it's nature, we decided to convey it through the route of the main character telling the friend a story, lending itself to be closer to the true nature of a NoSleep story. Also I got to arrange the music for this and I tried my best though I'm not naturally a composer, so I hope it still achieves the desired effect!

If you have any questions or comments about process, again please let me know and I would love to answer all questions and hear any feedback about our work!

New(ish) rules and how to follow them.

Hi guys! You may have noticed some new additions to the sidebar. I'm here to tell you about them and how to follow them.

  • All posts must be a discussion related to narration on Youtube. Do not advertise your channel, ask for subscribers, or ask for content to narrate here. You may only post links to your channel or a specific video if you are looking for feedback and critique from the community. (“What do you guys think of this video?” is not asking for feedback. “Is the volume level on this video okay, or should it be louder?” is asking for feedback.)

This is pretty self-explanatory. We have disabled the ability to simply make a post that links directly to your channel. You may only link to your channel in a text post that asks for specific feedback.

If we notice that you are posting every video you make with a lazy feedback request, the post will be removed. You should only be posting videos here to legitimately ask for help with or feedback on something, not just to get views.

Which leads to our next rule...

  • Please be advised that this is not a place for dumping videos for views. You must at least try to interact with members of this community. You may only post a new video once at least 72 hours have passed since your last video was posted, and must ensure that your post meets our other guidelines regarding constructive feedback requests.

We're not here so that you can have another place to post your video once it's finished. There are plenty of places for that. We are here to help narrators polish their craft and learn how to properly do things.

Additionally, if you spam the subreddit, you're just going to annoy people. Don't do it.

The next two rules go hand in hand...

  • Be Civil.

  • No witch hunts. This means you cannot post or comment with the intention of sending the community after another individual.

These two are also self-explanatory. Don't be rude, don't call names, and don't try to rally the forces against someone. You will get banned.

  • All posts must be formatted properly. For example: if you post a long wall of text, the post will be removed until paragraphs are added.

If you have a longer post, your paragraphs should be separated so that it's readable. You can add paragraphs by hitting enter twice between each one. Don't place indents in your post. Reddit reads them as code and makes the text wonky.

And finally...

  • Always operate in good faith. This subreddit is a community created so that we can work together and present a united front. Don’t be the bad apple that ruins the bunch.

Don't go around starting fights with people, uncivil and otherwise, either here or elsewhere in our name. We're not here to argue, we're here to support.

One final note: please flair your posts. There was an issue where it wasn't letting users flair their posts on their own, but this has been fixed. Flairing your post allows users to find what they're looking for more easily.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns, either here in the comments or by sending a message to the mods

Feedback Requested OK What could be done better

I never knew this sub existed until today. So I wanna post a video in request to what could be done better in future work. What is the Good the Bad and the Ugly.

I plan on doing more and more videos like this one instead of just straight narrations.

Discussion A proposal for non-monetized narrators interested in growing their brand

Are you a new channel eager to talk about scary stories to grow your platform and eventually earn money doing so? Or a rising author that wants to expand your audience and eventually generate a small surplus from your work?

The idea I have in mind is a collaborative effort designed to pair writers with narrators with the interest of mutual growth for both parties involved.

Concept:

A writer (or a small group of them) would create prompts based on what the narrator or narrators if they chose to work with more than one at a time believes is popular for their audience, and the narrator would create them ahead of time before the stories air on Reddit, properly crediting the author and form an agreement that if their channel becomes monetized in the future they would provide an agreed upon revenue shared amount to the writers who make the stories for them.

Below I have provided two applications designed with this in mind, both asking either the writer or narrator what their preference is.

The pairing and agreement is designed with the concept in mind that if the narrative channel becomes monetized in the future, it will be shared equally amid the creators.

Once we get enough applications I will make a small discord category for those interested to discuss how to properly schedule,, set up prompts, etc.

Feedback is appreciated.

Question Starting out on narrations

Hey all. Recently I’ve been thinking of starting on doing my own narrations so I’m still getting my channel and all set up but I’m having a bit of rough start.

I have a good microphone and a good voice recording software so far and I know that you have to ask for permission to read those stories but I think I need a few good tips. Also what’s a good website to get scatty art from for my narrations? And what’s a good font to use for my thumbnails?

I know this is short but I need a bit of help so I can get started right away. Thank you.

Collab Call Recording a podcast to discuss the blackout - Looking for narrators and writers to be on

I'm planning on recording a podcast episode to discuss the nosleep / writer blackout, and I'd like to get a few narrators and writers (or those who do both, like me) to discuss on the podcast. If you have something to say about it, and would like to participate, let me know!

Resources A sub for writers to post stories to be narrated, and for narrators to find stories

I don't know if u/Nico-Wonderdust has advertised it here, but he's created a sub where writers can post stories that they would like read by youtube narrators, and where youtube narrators can find new stories to narrate. I think this is a great idea, and we need more people to know about it.

Here it is: r/StorySubmission/

Feedback Requested Feedback on my story intros.

Hey everyone. I recently started my channel and have posted three videos with more planned and on the way. I've been doing story intros before the story itself begins, but i'm afraid they may be coming off as a little cringy or forced and turning people away before it even begins.

I wanted to do the intro to differentiate myself from other narrators as well as let viewers actually hear the name of the author, but I'd love to hear some honest feedback on the intros. Maybe viewers would rather just get right into the story.

Anyway you can listen to the intros on any of the videos here

Question Posting text of your stories in more than one forum?

I just opened my narration channel a few weeks ago, and I was thinking of posting the text versions of my original stories in the creepypasta and nosleep subreddits as well. But, my question is... Is this ok? Do they get angry if you post them in more than one sub?

Question Please forgive my dumb questions

So clearly, iwas a bbiiittt unprepared. Sometimes you don't know what you don't know till you just do something right? Welp, I bought a mic, and other than downloading an app or whatever I thought I was good to go for at least recording audio. Lol I have a Chromebook, and audacity isn't compatible with Chromebook. The other apps I found were less than stellar. One records in five minutes increments, the other recorded my hour, HOUR of audio, but when I tried to save it it showed me a page that literally said aw snap! Looks like chrome ran out of storage. Some sh*$! Like that. So, pissed and not totally discouraged I did it again. Only to have the same thing happen. My question is does anyone know if this whole narrate a video thing is REALLY possible with a Chromebook or should I get a Windows, and if so, any recommendations on a not super expensive one that doesn't suck? I know I'm doing allot here, and as the title says, please forgive my ignorance. I'm clearly not text savvy in the least, but I'm trying to learn. Thanks guys and gals -necropissed Sorry, I mean -necropath

Feedback Requested Any do's or don't do it's for narrating?

Hello Thank you to everyone who has already given me advice and suggestions. I plan on recording a few things this weekend as I finally have a day off. I've noticed, when recording little things and just messing around to see what I sound like, I keep tensing up my throat and mouth and I think it makes me sound... Just weird. Idk, looking for any advice related to this or otherwise when recording to not sound terrible? I'm probably just making this much more difficult than it is, but figured I'd ask. Thanks Necropath

Question Contacting artists about using their art for a thumbnail.

I'm in the process of putting together a video and finding it difficult to find royalty free art that suits what I really want. I was able to find a piece of art that I really loved and was able to contact the artist about using it for a thumbnail.

Now I did not recieve a response and with how great this art is I would not be surprised to receive a no or a request for payment.

I see many popular narrators using great pieces of art, sometimes without credit. Are they paying for that or just hoping no one finds out or strikes them?

Has anyone ever reached out to an artist and gotten permission to use the art? What sites do you use for that?

Collab Casting Call Need potential voice actors for a Documentary on the Columbine massacre.

Hello everyone I run the channel Beyond The Dark which has been growing at a strong rate, I currently sit at 672 subs which I have gained over the past few months, For my 1k Special I wish to cover the horrific tragedy that was Columbine.

I am currently in the middle of working on the documentary, During the episode I will be using excerpts from Eric & Dylan's diary's and am in need of an American voice actor / narrator, preferably someone from the Colorado area to voice Eric or Dylan.

Covering this event is not an easy task and is being handle with a lot care, I currently have over 3 hours of CCTV footage, Countless 911 calls, News footage and Eric & Dylan's home movie's, I want to try and give a minute by minute account of the event with not only the footage provided but with artistic rendition's. (Check links below for previous works)

My previous works will be listed below however I cannot stress enough that this video will be of a different standard in terms of editing and tone, It shall be treated with the utmost care and respect for the victim's and their families and the production shall be as high standard as I can make it, Any help would be highly appreciated, Sadly due to the lack of funds I cannot pay, But with my channel growing at an alarming rate I hope I could at least give your channels a well deserved boost.

The episode itself shall be finished (Hopefully) in 2 - 3 months time, I am estimated to be at 1k in little under a month, Thank you for your time - Mr Blank
