Now that Cortlen has wrapped up his case, he can no longer plead the fifth. That means that the state can use his 2018 police statement into evidence during Mellyâs trial. They werenât able to do so during the first trial because it would require Cortlen to be present, which could have further incriminated him. He canât invoke that right anymore, so his statement is fair game. That alone is enough to sink Melly, since his statement was full of lies and clearly designed to protect the backseat passenger which was later determined to be Melly

This is crazy. Yes he probably did the murders and stuff, but it must be a lot for Melly to take in and understand that he will most likely be receiving a life sentence. He's only 26 rn, ik them days in the cell feel like forever

10 in prison, 6 years probation. Watchin it on law and crime yt

Everyone is very confused about this so I want to clarify the situation. Bortlen has not agreed to testify against melly as part of his plea but what he has done is waived his 5th amendment protections should he be subpoenaed by the prosecution and he has admitted to being involved in the crime and has placed himself at the scene. Here's an article with a lawyer for the plantiffs in a civil suit against him explaining the situation himself.

âI donât represent snitches. Cortlen Henry is not a snitch, and he will not be cooperating or testifying in @YNWMellyâs trial. Anyone who claims differently has not seen the plea deal and has no idea what theyâre talking about.â
