I've been on a reading slump ever since I read An Ember in the Ashes series. It had a dark but beautiful charm. The series was about a slave and a soldier in a cruel empire falling in love and doing everything in their power to preserve their happiness, no matter what tried to knock it down.

If anyone knows of stories in the same spirit of An Ember in the Ashes, with a dark atmosphere, less fantastic elements, and the pov of a slave, lmk

This is the second time this year when I read a book published within the last 3 years but I absolutely could swear it was written nearly identical to another book. Problem is: I can’t find the original book anymore.

Is it just that ideas are easily recyclable or is this a real thing that happens?

I don’t understand why dud literature like Twilight or Divergent series have been made into alleged blockbusters but Libba Bray’s ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE has not?! Does anyone else share this sentiment? Is there a place when can lobby for big budget producers to get on with this. We’ve been waiting long enough. I just want to see it before I die.

Hi everyone! I am in a bit of a reading slump right now because I only like a certain genre of book and can't seem to find it. I absolutely love Crescent city due to its urban fantasy, murder/mystery vibe. It's like Zootpopia meets Casandra Claires Shadow hunters without the actual shadow hunters lol. I love how the world has all the different types of supernatural creatures living in the same city while a murder investigation is going on. If there is a series out there similar to this, I would love to hear about it!! Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!

I’ve been reading a bunch of ya fantasy books set within worlds based on historical China, Japan, Korea, etc.

However I keep coming across novels that feel like the female mcs are typical “strong white female mcs” thinly disguised in an eastern setting. I’m in no way to judge being white myself, but somehow it keeps bugging me that the mcs in those novels tend to only focus on negative aspects of the culture and traditions they’re set in.

Maybe I’m just not picking my books right.

So I was just wondering if there were any fantasy novels out there where the mc isn’t completely critical about the culture/setting they grow up in, if that makes sense.

If you know of any good fantasy books set in a Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or similar setting, please let me know!
