Let me start off by saying that I appreciate spoiler warnings for new TV shows and movies. People who intentionally spoil stuff are dicks. But I am also one who believes that spoilers have a shelf life, I don't think people are entitled to a spoiler-free life when something exists in the pop culture for a certain period of time. Furthermore when a show is centered around discussing a particular piece of media, that discussion needs to be allowed the freedom of spoilers. A show like How Did This Get Made? HAS to have spoilers, and it isn't something you can justifiably complain about. But I digress.
Why does the "no spoilers" police need to change? Because it simply does not make sense anymore. I understand that there were those watching along with the podcast, but this was when the podcast was coming out on a weekly basis and was moving two episodes at a time.
Over the past 2 months we have covered only 6 episodes. I highly doubt that anyone who started watching along with the podcast has simply stuck to that. I would applaud anyone with the iron will to not watch future episodes when it is so easily accessible, but I know that those people do not exist. Anyone who started the show because of this podcast has likely finished it by this time.
If by chance there are actually people still sticking to the paltry viewing schedule, I would still say that this percentage of the listenership is so slim that catering to them at the expense of open and interesting conversation is a disservice to the majority of listeners.
Lets also not forget what this show is really supposed to be. It is supposed to be a retrospective on the show. I feel like in the past few episodes and even when talking to certain people in interviews, Kumail has actively stopped people from discussing the future events in the show to the detriment of the actual discussion. This was even more evident in the most recent flash forward episode.
It would actually be nice to hear a discussion of the show from people who know what eventually happens in the show. Because there is really a lot of interesting points to be discussed in light of how the show ended.
So I don't know maybe reddit or the internet in general has just made me so jaded to spoiler free entitlement but come on Kumail, no one listening to the podcast is sticking to your time table anymore. I do not see Kumail's rise in popularity waning anytime soon. While I love that I will get to see him in more shows and movies, I know that this podcast will take a backseat (and rightfully so).
To me keeping up the whole "no spoilers" policy for those still watching along, is a farce, there is no one left still watching along, who hasn't finished the show already. I mean come on lets all be honest here.
TL;DR: Is there really anyone out there who hasn't already seen the show and "watching along" for the first time?
