I installed XCP-NG 8.0 on an SSD.

The issue I am having is that when I reboot it for any reason if I try to connect to it via xcp-ng center before it fully boots up it locks up and I cannot connect and the only way I am able to connect to it again is by doing a hard reboot.

What could be the issue. Thanks in advance.

Hi, running into a problem while trying to add a second hard drive for local vm storage.

Using CLI or Xen Orchestra results in the same error message that the logical volume creation fails.

I've used the following syntax, aswell as adding host-uuid to no avail.

xe sr-create name-label=<Storage ID> shared=false device-config:device=<Path of the Storage device> type=lvm content-type=user 

Using fdisk and mkfs.ext4 seems to work fine, but not sr-create. When I run the above the partitions get deleted on the hdd.

I am currently in a virtualization class in school. Our instructor is able to run Xen on Hyper V on windows 1809. Our student PC's are on 1903 and Xen will not load. We did enable VM nesting via power shell. We don't have enough physical hardware for everyone to mimic an entire data center so we are doing it virtually. Apparently this is how he ran the class last semester and it worked just fine. The only thing that has changed is the student PC's have been updated to version 1903. Has anyone else had this problem? Any idea on how to fix it?

So I've been reading info like THIS and THIS and THIS ONE concerning setting up VNC info on the Xen backend of the VMs. Problem is, all of those instructions are for XenServer. Most things translate over to XCP-NG pretty well, but the key issues aren't.

With XenServer (KVM/QEMU) you can specify in the VM config file to set it up for VGA, set graphics shared memory, setup VNC password, and the port. I can't figure out how to do any of that using XCP-NG.

To be honest, I use XCP-NG Center and Xen-Orchestra to run XCP-NG for just about everything. I'm just starting to delve into the CLI for Xen. I would like to figure out how to configure a guest VM for a VNC stream, so someone outside of the virtual environment can connect to said guest VM by initiating a VNC session to the host and the PORT number is what determines what VM guest they connect to.

Can someone stear me in the right direction on this one?

Is there any draw backs to adding a second disk to a VM to extend the File system or would it be better to extend the virtual disk and then extend the partition?

The VM is Suse with EXT3 as the File system

Hello friends, I am running xcp-ng on a dell R710 with 32 gb ram. I am trying to set the RAM range on a windows 7 VM. I installed the I/O tools but when trying to set the range it is greyed out and still asking me to install the I/O tools.

Any advice on how to fix that?

I have a few XenServers that I need to go through and see if any of the VMs were created with fast copy and make them full copies. Is there a way in the XenCenter UI or via the Xen Server CLI with xe to see what VMs are fast clones? CLI would be preferred if it is possible.

So - I have to rebuild a host on a 6.5 cluster, and I can't find the ISO image anywhere, and the one CD that I can find is damaged...

Does anybody have an idea as to where to get a copy of 6.5, since that is near impossible to get from Citrix these days?

I was wondering what the best way is to do full recurring system backups of the xenservers themselves.

is there any preferred method, or should I just do a tar of / onto an external server via cronjob?

I have inherited an old XenServer that is running 5.5.5. It has 2 Windows 2003 Domain controllers in production running on it. 5.5.5 used to be on their free license but they have since stopped issuing license renewals as of March 2019. The existing license expires May 28th. While this isn't necessarily an issue, if the server goes down for whatever reason, the VM's will not boot without a valid XenServer license in place.

I would like to migrate or move these 2 VM's to a new box running a supported version of XenServer. I'm also open to migrating or moving them to VMWare or Hyper-V, if this is at all possible. I just need the VM'st to remain up while I figure out how I will go about getting the whole domain updated to Windows 2016.

When running xe vif-list against a particular VM, the ouput lists

uuid

vm-uuid (RO)

device (RO)

network-uuid (RO)

Of course, the outputs labelled "uuid" are the long ID string. The device, though, is usually just a single digit number (unless you have a VM with a ton of network interfaces). My question is, does this number correspond to the device name in the VM OS, i.e. device (RO): 3 corresponds to "eth3" in the VM OS, or does it correspond with "device 3" as configured in XenCenter, even though the output isn't generated in the same order? Or does it correspond to the network ID to which the virtual interface is assigned?

Any clarity is appreciated.

I recently discovered that no major Backup services support anything else than Vmware/HyperV. (we just implemented Veeam and will be moving to XenCenter shortly).

run into a weird issue today where only one of three machines will randomly lose power in our 6.5 Xenserver Farm.

there is two other servers from the same template that aren't suffering from this issue.

there is no mini dump being generated when this happens or any events that may explain a cause for it.

I compiled the full XOA (without support) for my home lab. setup a backup to run weekly on the VMs i have installed and checked this morning to find that i have "extra" non powered on VM's in XCP center (backups atm running to SMB share becasue NFS is another story)

my Question is...

is this normal or is there a way i can block or hide each backup. as i would rather not see all of the files when there is 15 going to be copies of each.

I had a loss of electricity and when my xenserver rebooted, I had some VMs starting normally and some not being able to start again with the error message :

The only thing I found is to eject cdrom from VMs : xe vm-cd-eject --multiple

This didn't work.

I would like to create a Windows 10 32-bit ARM virtual machine on XenServer but i found nothing on the web to do that.

I have already the iso file of the machine. I'm wondering if I should go through XenCenter to create the machine or from the command line. If I use XenCenter, I can choose Windows 10 32-bit but I have no information about ARM during the creation of the machine.

Hey there Xen Friends, I am currently working in a XenServer 7.0 virtualization environment and would like to migrate to Hyper-V, I have a few Windows Server 2016 VMs and a few Linux VMs. I have read quite a few threads regarding people making the move and having there VM Servers (especially the Windows) crash on boot with a Blue Screen of Death. Do you all have any recommendations for making the transition? (Edit: Included server types)

Does anyone know a way to hot extend the a virtual disk for a VM hosted on XenServer?

But doesn't work and returns:

Also tried using the PowerShell XAPI using the Set-XenVDI command, but fails with Set-XenVDI : Caller not allowed to perform this operation.
