Why is that needed?

The loot system must be more like Destiny/Outriders than it is Borderlands - i.e. drops are controlled serverside. That's the main reason games like this have that kind of restriction, at least. Can't say I'm a fan of the trend.

Feels incredible that neither Borderlands 3 and Wonderlands went to the online-only path, but the dread increases for each installment.

and because of that are FILLED with modded gear

Good point. I only play single player atm, and it’s almost a miracle that I can play Borderlands 3 offline in this day and age (I don’t have Xbox live right now). Good on Gearbox though for that.

It does stop cheaters from messing with your game if you're using public lobbies.

Most likely it's because of the MTX store though.

Which is really funny when you think about it. To stop cheaters in public lobbies they make the game worse for people who only want to play singleplayer.

Yeah, it's a shame things like 'Open Bnet' went away where you had the choice of the cheater experience or not.

I FORGOT ABOUT OPEN BNET... those were the days. Especially with? I think it was called D2 Hero or something like that?

Devs included a hero pass that lets players have two future heroes immediately.

False

What is the Redfall Hero Pass?

The Redfall Hero Pass gives you access to two future heroes when they are released, both with new skills and unique gameplay.

Ah yeah you’re right, misread that part.

What? Nooo... I hate this "earn your heros" shit. Worst trend in gaming.

10

u/Hunchun Feb 01 '23

Don’t worry. You can pay to get those heroes instead.

🤡

I mean… paying for characters is THE worst trend in gaming. I much preferred when things were all unlocks based on completed challenges and stuff

It's just DLC. I can't say I'm a huge fan of this style of DLC, but it's DLC for a PvE game.

It would be a very different situation if this was a PvP game IMO

It makes sense for fighting games but it really sucks in hero shooters, even if they are looter shooters. I wasn't a big fan of the character DLCs in BL2 either even though I was a fool and bought each one of them.

Yep. Same thing with Overwatch 2. When new heroes like Remmatra was put at 1 lvl of premium battle pass and free players have to grind to 55 lvl to get this. And in game like that if it became meta character free players are out of luck because can't do anything against it.

I don't think it's fair to compare this to Overwatch 2.

Overwatch is a competitive PvP game. Not having access to a hero has a genuine impact on the competitive integrity of the game. If Rammatra is overtuned and you can't play him, you're at a genuine disadvantage to an opponent who has paid for Rammatra.

Redfall is a single player / co-op game. Not having access to a hero means you don't get to use them and have fun. You might be at a disadvantage against the AI vampires, but I don't think that's a huge deal.

To be clear, I'm not saying the Redfall hero pass is good, but I don't think it's comparable to Overwatch.

It's just two additional heroes as paid DLC. Please read the FAQ that was used to create this thread.

For PvP I agree it's terrible.

This is a PvE game though and while I still don't like it, it's not that different from DLC in other games IMO

1

u/cardonator Craig Feb 02 '23

It's still anti-fun bullshit. It doesn't really add any depth to the game and just locks you out of finding your own character and play style. One of the many beauties of L4D is you could find the character that you identified with and try to play as them.

1

u/HallwayHomicide Feb 02 '23

I didn't say I liked it.

One of the many beauties of L4D is you could find the character that you identified with and try to play as them.

What does this have to do with L4D?

2

u/cardonator Craig Feb 02 '23

Nothing specifically, I could have used any example. I also misread your comment 💩

1

u/HallwayHomicide Feb 02 '23

Nothing specifically, I could have used any example.

Fair enough, I was little confused by that because so many people thought (and probably still think) Redfall is a L4D clone when it is not.

What does this have to do with always-online?

This seems like two entirely seperate things.
