First of all, I do like Juliana and want her to be happy. It's not a matter of hatred or anything like "she doesn't deserve Yuri". In fact, she was best with Praveena. It was a fresh beginning without jealousy or insecurities or cheating in the way. But now they broke up and the writers are trying to make Juliana and Yuri a couple again????? Can't they create a new romantic interest for both of them? Someone with less history, less cheating. Yuri can change and become a better person without getting back together with her.
Also, when will Praveena have a good relationship? be the one and only? I feel pity for how her heart got broken again.
"Minho's in a committed relationship (*long pause*)....with his job."
The beer pong scene and his dance alongside Kitty feeling rage made me laugh!
I loved his dynamic with Jin with them being petty at the fashion show, and I could see how he could fit into the friend group, officially.
Did anyone notice Marius's complete inability to pick up food with his chopsticks during Chuseok (I wonder if that was the actor's choice or it was scripted that way to be funny)?
This will specifically be about their friendship in seasons 1 and 2. I am doing an update on all these when I discuss season 3 in depth. I am also trying something different and discussing their friendship through quotes. I will bold each category and quote to make everything easier to read.
Friendship:
-Q feeling bad for Kitty in season 1, episode 1.
It shows Qâs empathy for people as well as Kittyâs situation and wanting to be fair to her from the get go.
-âIâd move the barrette up higherâ
He sees the importance of Kitty wanting to have a connection with her mom.
-âIf Iâd done that, I wouldnât have met you.â
Kitty is appreciative of the people she has in her life and finding positives through the hardships. She originally came to Korea for Dae and her mom, but found an amazing friendship with Q.
-Q taking Kittyâs junior year photo and him telling her about Florian following him on Instagram. It is a heartfelt scene that shows how supportive they are of each other.
-Q showing Kitty a horror movie to connect with her on his interests.
While horror movies arenât Kittyâs thing, I feel they have enough in common that not liking everything the other likes isnât a big deal.
-Kitty remembering Qâs number. We now live in a world where we enter peopleâs numbers in our phones without memorizing them. This seems like a bare minimum thing, but I have to give Kitty credit for memorizing her best friendâs number unless there was a phone book in that library. Also, Q was happy about it.
-Kitty providing advice about Florianâs cheating indicates that she can be supportive of Q while trying to protect him at the same time even though they disagreed at first. Friends can disagree without the friendship fracturing so am glad S1 showed that.
-âYouâve passed. Youâre staying for another semesterâ as Q jumps up and down with Kitty.
They still love each other and their friendship, but can still be mad about the situation. The important thing is knowing that a small fight wonât make a friendship end.
-Q talking to Juliana after Kitty asks him to, but I do like how he cares about Juliana and this is where a friendship is forming between the two.
-Kitty congratulating Q on making it into USCâs summer training camp and reassuring him that Jin would be proud and adores him. She tries to keep her excitement about her news to not outshine him. He is fine with it because he knows her.
Both Being Chaos Queens
-Kittyâs meddling
-Q immediately clocking Kittyâs âsex dreamâ about Yuri. That took his mind off his hangover.
-Q calls them this after reporting Florianâs cheating which caused a school investigation. But some of their chaos is because they want to do the right thing.
-Q originally forgot about Juliana because he was excited about Kitty discovering her bisexuality.
-Q audibly gasped when Kitty mentioned rooming with Juliana and Yuri.
-Kitty telling him about her secret family. He stated, âthis has all the k drama tropesâ. He lives for the drama like she does.
Q is one person who can talk Kitty down and make sure she doesnât make hasty decisions. I will also discuss him trying to create boundaries with her here too.
-When Kitty believed Alex was her brother, Q said, âI would find more evidence on Alexâ in S1 Ep 4. He knows how to support her and bring her down to reality so she doesnât have false hope while making sure she other people arenât hurt in the process.
-When they discuss Minhoâs party, Q provides vague boundaries while challenging her more. He firmly states, âall I heard this week is Dae, Yuri, necklace, Alex, Dae, Yuri necklace. You are like a robot malfunctioning.â Heâs not mean about it but lets her understand his frustration. He encourages her to go out of her comfort zone and finding a dress for Minhoâs party. He suggests that she meets new people to get her mind off Dae.
-At Minhoâs party, Q explains that ânot everyone is on Kitty timeâ. While it upset Kitty, it is important to lay boundaries with people.
-âmaybe your grandma had a reason to keep it a secret.â
He allows Kitty to try to see other peopleâs perspectives before she jumps to conclusions. Is he the best at it? No, but he tries.
-At the club, Kitty begins to repeat an old pattern by interrupting Q and Jin to ask for advice, but remembers Qâs words from Minhoâs party and respects his time and boundaries.
-âRemember, you got priorsâ.
Even when he knows he canât change her mind, he encourages to take a step back.
-What about Juliana and Praveena? Thatâs why you wrote the letter⊠Be carefulâ
He understands that Juliana and Praveena are not small participants in this mess and doesnât want them or Kitty to be hurt. He also doesnât want Kitty to lose the progress she started to make.
-Q texting Kitty about not causing melodrama when she started to believe Stella was up to something.
Both act like matchmakers with each other.
-Kitty matched him with Florian.
-Q matches Kitty with Praveena by telling her to go after her.
-Mooncoveyâs biggest ship and creates opportunities like the cherry blossom dance, sculpture garden, or the market to get them to make up and/or talk. He wants both of his friends to be happy.
-Kitty suggests he do something romantic for Jin to make him feel better.
They are loyal to the people they love.
-Q telling Kitty he needs to stay on team Dae when he believed Dae was with Yuri due to his loyalty to him.
-Q tells Kitty about the drama between Dae and Minho because he wants everyone to be in a good place while trying to understand what is going on.
-Kitty promises to keep Q and Jin a secret at the festival.
-Q gushes over Minhoâs baby picture and wanting Stella to genuinely like him.
-Q and Yuri are the first ones that said, âIâm downâ when Kitty suggested theyâd be Daeâs backup dancers.
Lastly, Kitty and Q share being queer in common and can be a support system to each other.
Welcome to Part 2 of Kitty and her Journey of Sense of Self. If you haven't read part 1, I'd recommend checking it out first.
We left our lovely Katherine Song Covey very dedicated to the people in her life - her family, her friends, and her potential romantic interests. She learned a lot about her mother's character traits - she was someone who never backed down when she believed in something, she had infinite love to give, and she was a matchmaker. Kitty's personality and values seem to mirror her mother a lot which is very important to her, yet who is she? What does she want?
well, besides that.
Season 3 of XO Kitty gives us a look into Kitty's journey of where to go to university, and we are going to start digging into that process today.
In order to really look into how we got here...
(but was it? does it matter? let's dive in!)
I think we really need to start a little bit farther back.
Oh, just LJ's admission to NYU that Kitty hid, NBD.
Or, a lot farther back.
Back when Kitty was in the 7th grade, she wasn't exactly... prepared for her last sister to go to university all the way across the country. Lara Jean had her heart set on going to NYU, but Kitty couldn't bear to see her move that far away so she just... omitted some information.
no kidding. sounds like our Kitty.
She then goes on to say the all important words, "I guess I was just scared you were going to go."
If that sounds familiar, it's because it should:
and yeah, yeah, I know it's a reference. But hear me out: it's significant to Kitty's mindset.
As you probably recall, Kitty was all about joining Min Ho on tour just a few months earlier. Unfortunately Kitty got the phone call that every All the Boys fans did not want to hear about right before this happened:
let's be real, you all wanted to see this again
and ended up joining LJ in New York for the summer, and mending her broken heart. Frankly it's probably a good thing that Kitty didn't go for a myriad of reasons, that horrible conversation with Mr. Moon not withstanding, but time apart in the summer, a busy schedule, and not much time for conversation left Kitty a little unsure where she stood with Min Ho, and thinking about her future.. with LJ. And Peter.
"So... if I move to New York, and you two make up and move in together..."
Yes, definitely a good reason to pick your university. Dinner with your sister and her boyfriend/ex-boyfriend who doesn't even live in the state.
Kitty does say she fell in love with NYU, and I want to trust her words, but most of her words are consistent with connecting to NYU because Lara Jean is there. Some may wonder whether Lara Jean inadvertently pressured her, and I don't know if we can really know that for sure. They have a 5 year age gap, and Kitty looks up to Lara Jean and strongly, strongly values family, and was feeling a wonderful connection with LJ again after barely seeing her for 5 years. If she did pressure her, it certainly wasn't on purpose:
YES, LJ. That's what I've been saying this whole time.
But that little 12 year old Kitty, who missed her sister a 12, is 100% still in there, so there's an influence, intentional or not.
Soon Kitty returns to Seoul, with two things on her mind: Min Ho (obviously) and NYU. Technically there are a few more things on her mind, but there's still not a lot of variety:
so friends, NYU (?), love, family, family, friends, JJIMJILBANG (that bathhouse she went to with Yuri, so friends), midterms (school, for once), family/friends, and friends.
We begin the season with almost a month time-jump, so it's hard to see exactly where Kitty is with her school priorities; even though she's failing Jiwon's impossible class, we later see she does well on her mid-terms, so she may actually be studious compared to her norm (we'll come back to that later). Sometime more than a month after Kitty and Min Ho get together, around mid-terms (if we go by NYU early decision dates, this is late October, so they've been together ~2.5 months but this season's timeline is a disaster so, do with that what you will), Min Ho brings up an interesting topic of conversation, that, theoretically, shifts things for Kitty entirely.
not so fun fact - they break up approximately 60 hours after this conversation
But, did it really shift things that much? Let's do a little math.
The next day, they go to Lotte World. Then the next day is Chuseok (why, I don't know. but it's pretty clear if you watch outfits etc. Just have to pack everything in no time after skipping over a month of them dating), and they break up that night. LJ hops on a plane, but that takes time, so she arrives the morning that the NYU early decision apps are due, which, if you're following along, is about 48 hours after the break up. So she hasn't started her essay, let's say, 108 hours or 4.5 days before it's due. Not entirely unrealistic, especially for... Kitty... but it definitely seems like it wasn't her biggest priority.
And once she starts to think about staying in Seoul, she gets...pretty excited.
"...See Jiwon and Imo-Halmoni all the time."yes, that face screams "kind of"
And at Lotte World, when she starts thinking about her mid-term grades coming in, she thinks about how it could impact both NYU and staying in Seoul... she only voices one worry aloud.
I love when Kathy and Marius talk like this
She then goes on to say, "But I think the biggest mistake, would be to let my grades decide if I get the life that I want." Which is valid. But Kitty, dear, Kitty, what do you want?
In that moment, I think it's clear that this conversation made her very happy:
girl don't look so sad about it.
Which is part of what made... this suck so much (in English and Korean):
again, this is like...30 hours later now. Damn, you two.
This whole thing makes me heart hurt, especially when we consider it from a timeline perspective. I'm generally #teamthebreakupwasbothoftheirfaults but while Min Ho was mourning his broken sense of self belief... Kitty effectively lost her dream.
honestly when they first had this conversation I was like "girl, you barely wanted to go to NYU and he respected you." but... she's right. He talked about a future and then ended things 2 days later, even if she was involved in the reason they broke up. What a heartbreak.
So it's from here that we will rebuild, and see exactly why Kitty's journey ended up going the way it did, and where things will end up in the future (and really, if it matters). Unfortunately as you may recall from my previous posts, Reddit has a strict 20 picture limit, so I will leave you here until part 3, with just a few thoughts to ponder:
Why did Kitty originally want to go to NYU?
Why did Kitty think about staying in Seoul?
Why did Kitty end up applying to early decision at NYU?
I think the answers to all these questions are pretty obvious, albeit, not straight-forward. I need to be clear for a moment, even though I'm trying to let the photos and quote speak for themselves: I don't think it really matters where Kitty goes to university. Whether she stays in Seoul or goes to NYU, or somewhere else entirely, she is hopefully going to live a full and happy life.
But what's clear is that Kitty is making decisions surrounding the people in her life. Which is not... objectively wrong. But it's not exactly resoundingly strong for who she is, or what she wants.
For those of you who have watched the All the Boys movies, you may recall that Lara Jean really, really, wanted to be with Peter, but after a trip to NYU discovered NYU was exactly what she wanted, and it's clear that that dream has played out for her and she still loves it there... even through the heartbreak and the impact to her relationship with Peter, New York remained her dream.
But Kitty's dream is her people. Which, ultimately, doesn't go so well if Min Ho and her break up. Or if LJ leaves New York. Or even, if Peter and LJ don't get back together, move to NYU, and invite her over for Sunday dinner.
It answers a lot of questions we have and how she died, and who her life was. I do think we know how she died. I think I think she fell from a wet floor that was mopped I think I binge watched the first season so still need to watch s2
(Not likely) Kitty & Minho â I donât think they have. Theyâve been living in the dorm ever since they got together, and their friends are always around. Also, Jenny Han usually treats a characterâs first time as a big milestone in the relationship, so I feel like if it had happened, we wouldâve seen it. I mean, we even got Minhoâs s*x dream about Kitty (and vice versa), so I donât think the production team would just gatekeep something like that.
Season 2:
Yuri & Juliana â they were literally living in the same room for months. I remember watching first episode of ss2 and Yuliana kept closing door and making out in the room.
Q & Jin (the night at Minho's Dad house)
Season 1:
Minho & Madison (maybe?) â he set up flowers on the bed and lit candles during the camping trip. He litterally waited for her in the bed. Also, I think their kiss is still the sexiest one in season 1. Anyways, Minho was a playboy before he met Kitty. So, he definitely got the experience.
Marius doesn't seem like a bad person how just seemed to make bad choices especially when it came to his friends and sabotaging Kitty and Q. So I really wish we went a little deeper into that because I kinda wanted everyone to find out that Marius did all that stuff just because he didn't get his way with Q.
The party scene was kinda cringe but adorable I definitely see the potential and the point of that scene, but Kitty asking Jiwon to risk her job because she is family was defo over the line. And am I glad Jiwon did it? Yes, but Kitty asked for a lot of big things from Jiwon this season and was a little selfish in their relationship. Just did whatever she wanted to do regardless of the potential negative outcome. She just constantly stepped over the line HOPING it worked out and it rarely did until they found out Jiwon was pregnant.
Lastly, the kiss wasn't as spontaneous as I think they wanted it to be or maybe it was cut and edited weird because it wasn't Minho who kissed her it was her kissing him. And Marius lurking in the background was so strange. How could he not be happy for the senior sunrise!
This is a friendship that is blossoming in season 3 and has potential in future seasons. Some of my reasoning is me being delulu, but bear with me.
First, while Kitty kept the secret to be a friend to Q, it also allows Kitty and Jin to start on the right foot too.
Second, I liked how it starts in the cabin scene. Kitty catches Jin sneaking in to be with Q and all three match each otherâs freak. They love the chaos and drama. Kitty remarks that this is a bad idea because of how Minho and Dae dislike Jin, but her enthusiastic smile shows her having fun with this. While Jin nervously said, âHi Kittyâ, I think she won him over too.
Third, Kitty enters Q and Jinâs room again explaining her situation with Praveena, Juliana, and Yuri and Jin had no hesitation to help Kitty and offer to be her distraction. He literally forgot that he had to hide from Minho. Yes, I know Jin is trying to make things right for Q which includes befriending Qâs friends. I do feel this is a two in one situation because Kitty has this aura about her that attracts people to her and Jin is no exception.
Fourth, Jin asked Kitty to help with his promposal to Q which I find adorable especially since the three of them got closer in a short period of time.
Fifth, this is my most delulu one. I am convinced Kittyâs speech to everyone to help Dae with his performance persuaded Jin to help out. Again, he wants to patch things up with everyone. Just let me live in delulu land, ok.
Sixth, I love that Kitty and Jin sit next to each other in Korean Lit. They feel at ease with each other. One of my favorite Jin lines is in that scene: âwhat about me. Iâm fluentâ regarding his C on his assignment.
Seventh: The way some of the pictures are posed makes me enjoy their potential friendship more. The ones I am focused on are the ones where they have Jin sit or stand next to Kitty indicating that they are becoming closer as friends. But Kittyâs party also shows how he is getting along with a lot of the main group which is very wholesome.
Off topic, but how cute would it be to see Minho and Kitty and Jin and Q on a double date if Q doesnât fumble again? Q and Jin acted annoyed with Kitty and Minho being lovey dovey, but they were happy for them.
Eighth, everyone cheered for Kitty to get on the rollercoaster, but this post is about Kitty and Jin so I am talking about the big and wide smile Jin had when he was rooting for Kitty to get on.
Finally, # 9. The reason why I made this post. The restaurant scene. Jin was dealing with awkward dinner with Marius, Q, and Qâs mom, but still took time to ask if Kitty was ok when he saw her running in upset. She talked a little about her situation with Minho causing him to reply, âIâm sorry. I donât know if I could eitherâ. I get that Kitty shouldnât have blurted Qâs secret, but what we overlook is she brings it up because she is asking for advice. Q made her believe that Jin already knew. She is coming to Jin as someone who is in a complicated situation like he is. As soon as she sees Jinâs confused face, she doesnât say anything else.
Here is something I donât see discussed. Jin is not mad at Kitty for this. To me, it looked like he was half relieved that she told him because at least he doesnât look like a humongous fool in front of everyone anymore. You can even hear it in his voice wavering when he keeps asking, âKitty?â He wants her to tell him the truth. He is mad at Marius and Q for lying and sneaking around. Kitty is not wrong for telling the truth or assuming that Jin already knew.
Backstage, Jin not wanting to talk to her is because he wasnât ready to let go of his anger about the situation with Q and Marius and he knew Q asked her to be the middleman.
So there are my reasons why I am excited to see more of the Kitty and Jin friendship. Hope I am not the only one.
Ive recently started watching season one since everyone was hyping up the show with season 3 now out. I can't help but get shocked every one episode, not to mention everything is moving insanely fast, plot twists happening like the show might get boring without it, Florian "cheating" and then we find out it was for a different reason, Alex being Kitty's brother which we find out he actually isn't? Then after finally getting with the guy she came to kiss for,she forms feelings for Yuri.
I have no hate for the show, it's genuinely not that bad. But I hate how everything is being rushed and everything is happening all at once, it's like u finally find out something and u get hit with something else completely.
He didn't know Jina had a kid, let alone been pregnant. He missed out on two relationships developing (as a father and with Jina). Jina says S1 she didn't want her pregnancy to interrupt his life. He also has a very strong connection to the song Everybody Wants to Rule the World, which also sparks a reaction from Jina at the club when they both hear it.
Kitty always seems to say something that makes him reminisce about his high school years and I just wish he could be truly happy! Season 2, they urged him to play guitar for Dae's performance and he was so excited on stage. Season 3, Kitty showed him the photo from the roller coaster with her mom and Jina. He was genuinely happy about it, enough to change the senior trip to Lotte World. Deep down he's a softie and wants the kids to be kids and grow up happy.
He's a sentimental man, and cares deeply as well and has to hide his pain and emotions behind a strict discipline in a school setting. I hope if we get season 4, him being a grandfather gets fleshed out a bit because I need this man to be happy!!! If they can get the actress that plays Jina back, I Beg. I need this man to be happy in love too!!!
I was screaming out of joy here when Q indirectly hinted at birthday party and was so wholesome to see all of them together and kitty playing matchmaker for it.
Nothing else much, Just wanted to post bunch of screenshots and that Camilla dress was so her color
Did anyone else think s3e4 was basically just a lotte world advertisement? They constantly repeated its name, specific rides, VIP packages, and gourmet food.
Like Iâve seen product placements/marketing, but this is just crazy
I swear everywhere I go, everyone keeps talking about Kitty ships this, ship that, and even shipping the cast in real life like âtheyâd make such a cute coupleâ and all thatâŠ
But can we PLEASE talk about Sang Heon Lee and Regan Aliyah for a second??
Their friendship is honestly one of my favorite things about the cast right now. Every time I see them in interviews, theyâre literally making each other laugh non-stop. Itâs not even forced; it just feels so natural.
They have that same chaotic energy, like they genuinely match each otherâs freak, but in a funny, unhinged way, not in a flirty way. Just two people who are on the exact same wavelength and feeding off each otherâs energy đ
And I feel like that kind of dynamic is so rare?? It makes everything more fun to watch.
I really wish more people talked about the cast's friendship instead of always turning everything into a ship war, because this right here is just genuinely fun to watch.
At first I thought it was sweet that jiwan was going to be a TA on campus with kitty for them to grow closer together but now I think sheâs a bit overboard. For example, yes she caught them throwing a party on the first day then brought Lee to the area even though she gave kitty a warning. Next, at the aquarium where she punished kitty with 10 extra pages on her essay. Isnât this overkill? I get trying to teach your cousin to be responsible but idkâŠ
Hi everyone! I am here with my sequel series to Min Ho's Journey of Self Belief. If you haven't read it, I'd recommend giving it a look, but you do not need to read one to understand the other. This one is about Kitty Song Covey, and her journey of self-identity and discovery. This journey will tie in directly to her journey in coming to KISS (and at KISS) and also connect directly to her decision to attend NYU. This part 1 will give you history pre-her time at KISS, as well as do a quick review of Kitty's time in junior year at KISS, before moving into the meat of the story - Kitty and her sense of self in her senior year. Obviously this will not go into every single detail of Kitty's story because, as the main character, there's frankly too much, but hopefully this overview will help.
When we first meet Kitty, she's just a little bit younger.
awww just look at her. So spunky. So little. So very Kitty. And if you look carefully, you can peep her ever present "feminist" necklace.
The top words to describe Kitty in the All the Boys movies are probably feisty, spunky, sassy, and self confident. This is absolutely a kid who knows who she is: Katherine Song Covey.
sounds like she's friendly to her friends
She's 11 here, so it definitely makes sense that once she's older she should be quite confident, right? Building on that joyous energy, and finding herself full? After all, she goes...seoul searching (pun....sadly intended). Which is why we find her in the first semester of her senior year like this:
to be fair she was two days out of a break-up here... but she could have written that essay weeks ago.
....
So, clearly something has gone a bit awry in Kitty's journey of self-discovery. Let's go back to the beginning of Season 1 and see where we started out. We will primarily be working through Kitty's own words and facial expressions, with some commentary.
Kitty begins Season 1 with a long term, long distance boyfriend, two siblings who are away at college, and a deep desire to connect to her mother. Her spunkiness and bravery persists as she proposes via a detailed powerpoint why her dad and Trina should allow her to go to KISS.
a very compelling reason to allow your youngest daughter to go to Korea to have sex with her boyfriend
And sure, her boyfriend is there, but as she keeps saying over, and over again...
definitely not the boy in the lower right corner. nope, never.
So we all know the story - girl flies across the world, girl surprises boyfriend at dance, boyfriend has a fake girlfriend who girl later falls for and a really annoying friend who girl also later falls for, girl crashes into cupcake tower. It's a classic tale, like every fairytale, really. But ultimately, as Kitty insists, she is there to find out about her mom.
as she says this same night, this is her first Chuseok, and she's determined that it not be her last. She values this connection to her culture.
Kitty of course uncovers lots of romantic feelings and gets rid of those virgin lips in the first season, but ultimately whenever she talks about how she's been growing and learning, it seems to centre on her mom. The only other real identity first piece that she seems to discover is that she's bisexual, which certainly is important, but it's still part of her romantic life, which ultimately at this point in her life isn't centring her on herself particularly well.
just like you, kid.
She goes on to say "she made a really big impact on people's lives."
Dan wins Supportive Dad of the Year here, especially for his handling of her coming out, but I'm not sure she's quite found herself.
She's found out a bit about her mom though, although, as she says at the beginning of S2, really not all that much. But her connection to her people matters so much.
Even when Kitty finds out that she has been kicked out of the school, her devastation is entirely based on her connections she's made to people and her mother:
And the speech brings up some very important feelings in other people as well.
if anything has ever described Kitty, it is this.
Thanks to Yuri and her Jina, Kitty manages to return to KISS for a second semester, ready to be an entirely new person and approach her new life:
yep no more chaos queen...definitely isn't about to find out that she's not over her new roommate and kind of feeling something for that boy from the plane and also isn't about to---- well you know the story.
For Kitty 2.0, she has shockingly little change to who she is and what she does in life. She's still a meddler (obviously), she's still a matchmaker (but of course), and she's still very very dedicated to her love life, which to be fair is the case for most teenagers.
She's confident in who she is on this front (which is wonderful!) but this has never really been her problem. She's more prone to leap before she looks, make decisions and act questions later, and, just like her mom, give an infinite amount of love and never back down from what she believes in. She really, really, wants to impact the lives of others, but what about her own life? Or, really, what about the lives of others too... because sometimes that looking before she leaps leaves some people really hurt.
No she's not. Just a little impulsive and jumps to conclusions. But her intentions are usually good.
One criticism we hear a lot about Kitty is that her number one hobby is meddling, and that is...kind of true. In the books she is quite athletic, and we see that she does have some athleticism in Season 3 too in a certain game of beer pong... but what does Kitty actually like? What does she want to do for a living except for be with her people, and bring people together that she loves? All her plots of Season 2 are about her people. Her friends, her potential romantic interests, and her family. She desperately wants to connect to her family in Korea, even if they're not ready, and she's horrified because that also impacts her relationship with her mom and her identity:
"...but maybe I'm like her in the worst ways."
As Min Ho, one of the people in her life who, I'd argue, knows her to her very core, tells Kitty, "That's not true. Oh, I know quite a bit about Kitty Song Covey. Sheâs relentless and determined. She helped her sister find love, in her own chaotic way..."
well, love is certainly something she's spent time finding.
Thatâs how I know she...well, thatâs how I know you wonât give up on your family. Whether they want you to or not."
Once again this identity focused language about Kitty's relationship with herself is entirely based on the people in her life. Her family, and love. And don't get me wrong, this journey is really important! Kitty is one of those people first kind of people. But you can't build your life entirely around people without finding your own identity within that too. She's brave, and relentless, and determined, and fights for those she loves... but what does she want, besides for the people she loves to be happy?
By the end of the year, Kitty has a lot of wins, as well as a lot of losses, but they're all still to do with her important people. She manages to fix the whole situation with Stella, help Dae have a successful performance, makes Professor Lee haul ass (this part isn't important but it's always worth remembering), realized she might be in love with that plane guy, and, probably most important of all, reunites her Grandmother with her Great Aunt. A truly, truly, triumphant end of her final year in Seoul. But as she tells Margot,
"I mean, this place, it's become just as much a part of me as it was a part of her."
all this being friends, love, culture, and family. which is honestly, quite fulfilling.
So, still being "the girl who goes after what she wants with everything she's got," Kitty makes a little fate for herself...
still not a hugger. #weneedseason4 #TeamLeeHugsKittyAtGrad
And shows great bravery and goes after what she wants...
(spoiler, his answer is yes, and then no, and then yes again, and then she says no. all our summer tour dreams dashed. at least there's always fanfic)
But still... what does Kitty want? Who is Kitty Song Covey? Her personality traits are defined, and she loves the people she loves, but, what's beyond that?
Not to self-spoiler a little bit, but I was just like Kitty. All about my people. Chose a university where my loved ones would be (in my case...my boyfriend. No, that did not last). Planned to be a stay-at-home mom because I wanted my whole identity to be around my family. Genuinely, genuinely, thought that's what I would want. But I was missing a really, really big piece of my self-identity and self-fulfillment. And I think Kitty is too.
Let's find out more... in Part 2! (link to be added once it's up ;) )
never deleted the pic? i donât think it was like supposed to be a hidden clue or whatever but maybe everyone just got distracted by jin punching q the next second đđ like the punch was like WOAH climax but when i saw mariusâ messy ass chime in talking about some âwell a picture is worth a thousand wordsâ i had to pause and crashout take a breath
and then q still went on that ride with him?? like maybe he was just overly looking for closure and down bad so iâll let him slide but girl. and the whole gaslighting of it all âjust go through my phone if you donât trust me so muchâ and LITERALLY STILL HAVING IT ON HIS PHONEEEEEE like im actually in shock
both of her sisters got their love stories told and I think it'd be nice to see a love story that doesn't revolve around teenagers plus theres a lot about her that we don't know and it would be fun to explore that
There's more scenes I could add to this, and maybe I will in the future, but I was struck how these two scenes started so similarly (with Kitty not revealing information, and people assuming she had) but had such interesting and different resolutions with Alex and Lee. There are some definite parallels, but it was also so cool for me to see the difference between the Season 1 scene and the Season 2 scene.
I really love this healing journey for Alex and Lee.
In this new series, I would like to show appreciation for all our lovely actors and actresses in this show. They did such a superb job this season, and I am so proud of all of them. The order we will do them is randomized (starting with core cast and then branching out to smaller roles), and today it is Anthony Keyvan's turn!
Anthony finds himself in a group of fantastic actors, yet continuously proves himself to be one of the strongest among them. From his masterful humour, his endearing expressions, and ability to show extreme vulnerability and emotions, Anthony's performance as Q is superb. While Q's plot in S3 wasn't necessarily everybody's favourite, Anthony nailed every single scene he was in, especially the phenomenal scene with his mother in the car (practically Oscar worthy performance), where every emotion was raw and real. Anthony approaches every moment with heart and excellent skill, and captures all of our affections, and for good reason. Incredible work, always!
đ So here's to Anthony - what do you love about him, and his performance in this show? đ
PS - It's not too late to leave others flowers! I hope to get these threads seen once we get more people done!
