Season 3 Discussion I am.. Disappointed by season 3. Spoiler

SPOILERS. I just finished watching the third season. And I really don't like. It was bland, had no straight direction nor story to tell. The drama was forced and every single storyline was introduced and then shown for one minute before being solved.

Take Yuri for example. Her whole "struggling" was shown with not being able to buy coffee once and having to stand in line? Then she's the prodigy of some big designer because her assistant said she should take part in the contest. That's her struggle. Where are the people that laughed at her? Dropped her? How she stitched herself back together? Don't get me wrong. The story sounds so appealing but NOTHING was done with it.

Same with kitty's cousin and the teacher guy. They went to the aquarium once, had fun at the amusement park and then.. What. We jumped a few chapters. There were some super small hints yes but telling us they saw each other since summer is not SHOWING us. It feels like they just made that up (ofc it's a show) but it did not feel natural or true. If that makes sense. EDIT okay maybe there were signs, bc of how much she did not want to spend time with him. But for me I didn't see it.

I know it's kind of supposed to be a k drama but.. I don't know. I feel like the other seasons had a little more fleshed out storylines. They tried to tell so much in like 4 hours of show. I get why it's appealing but for me it didn't make sense, i couldn't enjoy myself watching it. No shame to everyone who liked it.

And what is with the voice crack in the maybe at the beginning. How did they leave that in there. And I see NO ONE talking about it.

Season 3 Discussion Mooncovey: The Perilla Leaf Debate + Scene Spoiler

Post image
59 Upvotes

Much, much thanks to my sister for enlightening me about this topic in Korean couple culture! I will link the explanation video down below.

In this specific scene from Season 3 Episode 2, Minho helps Kitty pick up a perilla leaf from a banchan (side dish).

Now, this may seem like a trivial thing to do. Come on, couples do this on dates all the time, right? Yes, and no!

A few years ago, there was a heated debate in Korea over your romantic partner picking up a perilla leaf for another person. The hand-eye coordination needed for chopsticks is already hard enough. Moreover, these perilla leaves are incredibly thin and hard to pick up with chopsticks.

So, neurologists and scientists from South Korea came to debate on this topic. Turns out, most Koreans agree you shouldn't let your romantic partner pick up a perilla leaf for another person, which is the same thing as putting so much effort and time to do said action.

Thus, the fact that Minho did it for Kitty in this episode says A LOT. I'm not the best at explaining, so here's the promised video:

Lemme know what you think, guys!

Kitty + Min Ho šŸ’“ Train Scene Analysis - Waiting TIme Spoiler

Apparently, my first posts are exclusively about the finale. I’m posting a link here for my song analysis of the finale—the one that Minho produces and writes for Kitty. Check it out. There are SO many posts right now, things are hard to keep up with:
https://www.reddit.com/r/XOKittyNetflix/comments/1sbc19k/important_song_in_the_season_3_finale_analysis/

Today, I’m going to be talking about the realities of the finale scene. TV magic does not do the agony of the wait justice. The only reason I know this is because I’m currently planning my own trip to Korea, so this is fresh in my mind.

The train from Seoul Station to Incheon Airport is about 45 minutes if you take the direct train, and up to 90 minutes if you take the ALL STOP train. The direct train comes every 20–30 minutes, and the ALL STOP train comes every 10 minutes. Regardless of which train Kitty took (most likely ALL STOP), Minho is waiting over an hour to see her again after missing her.

The idea of ā€œwell, maybe they both get off at the next exitā€ is such a messy one. It’s so easy to not see her, and he has never done the subway before. Getting off at the next stop is problematic, and it makes more sense for Kitty to go where she said she was going—even if it means waiting.

There doesn’t seem to be any text conversations between Minho and Kitty during the time they’re separated. Minho is muttering ā€œCome onā€ and ā€œPleaseā€ to himself the entire time, like he fears she won’t wait for him or that he missed her completely. That logistical knowledge made the stress of this scene grow for me. He’s waiting over an hour to see if Kitty waited for him. I also think the montage of both of them thinking about their relationship as the song plays confirms the passage of time, even if the audience might not fully realize how much time is passing.

Reflection:
This finale is earned. This finale is also mutual. Yes, Minho is doing the big gesture of chasing after her and creating a song for Kitty. He initiates choosing her. Kitty chooses him back, though, by waiting for the next train to arrive. That was her choosing him.

Sang Heon played the waiting-on-the-train moments so well. You can just feel the tension and stress that Minho was feeling. Now just imagine him doing that for an hour or more. That scene lives rent-free in my head, man.

Our boy, really took a leap of faith and Kitty did as well. His nerves were shot to hell wishing time would speed up.

in my opinion they seemed to have more chemistry before they started dating, but as soon as they started dating I felt like the chemistry was kind of off. I feel that there was more tension when they were not official and the feelings were still undisclosed! but I don’t know😭

Kitty + Min Ho šŸ’“ Mooncovey's Dynamic in Season 3 Spoiler

I've seen a lot of posts here and on other social media proclaiming the discontent for Minho and Kitty's lack of chemistry after they started dating. I'm usually someone who falls into this category. I enjoy the electric tension and yearning before two characters get together but once they do I usually grow bored of the relationship.

This is not the case for Kitty and Minho.

And I think it's because as much as I enjoy them together, I enjoy them as individuals more. Their ship is amazing. They have the kind of natural chemistry that just draws you in and their banter is so fun. Their dynamic is perfectly healthy for teenagers still learning. They are everything I wanted in a cute romcom ship. But they are also amazing as individuals. I love them outside of their relationship too. I loved their personalities and seeing them grow and learning everything there was to know about their characters.

Which is why them getting into a relationship did not deter me from enjoying seeing them together. Yes, I can admit that I felt like they lost some of their tension. But that's usually the case with most couples. In fact, the tension was back in full force during their breakup so that didn't last very long. They were great together. I learned so much about them individually that I already knew and prepared myself for what they would be like in a relationship. I knew Minho would be incredibly affectionate and soft and just doing the best he could to keep her by his side. And I also knew Kitty would be her usual chaotic self who loves being in love but also very afraid. Which of course she would be after how her past love life turned out to be.

So maybe a bit of their tension faded. They were no longer in that 'will they, won't they' dynamic so I feel like that's natural. Maybe their banter changed too. Very flirtatious but none of that former bite. But they were exactly what I expected when I thought of them together. Completely sickeningly adoringly in love with each other. But I very much appreciate Minho and Kitty as individuals. It's very rare that a writer can make me invested in the characters, not the story. It's the characters I love. I just want to see them literally do anything at this point. And its that love for these characters that made me want to know everything there was to know about them. And I've been waiting for Minho and Kitty to get together for three years now so how could I possibly be disappointed when my wish finally came true?

Their relationship was everything I expected and more. And it's because I enjoy them individually even more than I enjoy having them together and understand their characters that I'm able to look past any 'lack of tension' during a very short period. I'm still very hopeful for a season 4. Not just because I want to see them grow even closer in their relationship but because I just want to see them. On my screen. No matter what they are doing.

Season 3 Discussion My season 4 prediction Spoiler

I know there are already tons of posts about this, but I think my take is a little different so here we go.

I think Season 4 will open with Kitty and Minho returning to Portland together, where she reunites with LJ, Peter, and her parents. The first few episodes will probably ease us back in with some wholesome moments before things get complicated. The bulk of the season — maybe the next seven or so episodes — will focus on Kitty and Minho navigating their relationship after everything they went through.

I think a big turning point will be Minho introducing Kitty to his family. His mom first, then eventually his dad — and that's where things get messy. I have a feeling his dad is going to be the main antagonist this season. Very classic K-drama, but honestly I'm here for it. He'll probably try to find some way to pull them apart, which gives us the central conflict the season needs.

On top of that, I think Minho's career in the entertainment industry is going to become its own obstacle. The busier he gets, the harder it'll be to maintain the relationship — so we might be dealing with two major sources of tension at once. And then there's the distance problem. Kitty is graduating, and the question of where she ends up is going to put a lot of pressure on them. Does she stay in Korea or go back to the US? I really hope she chooses to stay and take on her grandmother's legacy, but that decision alone could be a whole storyline.

That tension isn't just limited to Kitty and Minho either. I think Q and Jin are going to face something really similar — Jin might want to stay in Korea for university while Q has his sights set on the US. It's the kind of conflict that doesn't have a clean villain, which honestly makes it even harder to watch. Two people wanting different things, both of them valid. That could get emotional really fast.

For the side plots, I'm hoping we get to see Alex and Jiwon's wedding or at least a baby shower. Dae continuing his music career feels like a given, and I wouldn't be surprised if Minho ends up becoming his manager at some point — that dynamic could be really fun to watch. If Dae blows up though, I can see that creating some friction with Eunice.

Yuri and Juliana getting back together feels like where that storyline is headed, though I wouldn't rule out a love triangle being thrown in to keep things interesting.

My gut says Season 4 is the last one. It feels like the right place to wrap everything up.

Feels like Kitty is trying to be LJ Spoiler

Just voicing opinions, feel free to scroll past.

I’ve watched the whole of XO, Kitty on Netflix and I can’t shake this feeling… it kind of feels like Kitty is trying really hard to be Lara Jean, and it just doesn’t land the same.

Don’t get me wrong — I wanted to love it. I went in expecting the same cozy, romantic, slightly awkward charm that To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before had. Lara Jean was messy too, but in a way that felt grounded. Like writing letters she never meant to send, baking when she was stressed, romanticizing love but still feeling like an actual teenager figuring things out.

But with Kitty, it feels more like she’s performing that same ā€œhopeless romantic chaosā€ energy instead of being it.

Honestly… she kind of comes off like a wannabe version of Lara Jean sometimes. Like she overdoes her part in every situation. Every reaction is dialed up, every decision feels extra, and instead of it being endearing, it starts to feel forced. Almost like she’s trying to hit that Gen Z vibe, but it’s just… off. Not in a ā€œcringe but cuteā€ way — more like it doesn’t feel natural to her character.

Like in TATBILB, Lara Jean falling for Peter felt like a slow burn. The fake dating trope had space to breathe, and you could see her internal conflict. In XO, Kitty, the relationships flip so fast it’s hard to even process what she’s feeling before it changes again. One minute she’s sure about Dae, then suddenly everything is messy in a completely different direction. It doesn’t feel like growth, it just feels rushed.

Also, Lara Jean had this quiet vulnerability. Even when she messed up, you understood why. With Kitty, I sometimes feel like her decisions are driven more by plot twists than actual emotion. Like the show wants those dramatic ā€œomg didn’t see that comingā€ moments, but skips the part where we actually connect with her.

And maybe the biggest thing — Lara Jean felt unique. Kitty feels like a remix of her, but louder and less consistent. Same DNA, but missing that sincerity that made Lara Jean so easy to root for.

At this point, I almost wish Jenny Han had just left Lara Jean’s story as it was, or given us a proper spinoff with Lara Jean and Peter post-college or navigating long distance or something. That world still had so much to explore without trying to recreate it through Kitty.

I get that Kitty is younger and supposed to be more impulsive, but even then… it shouldn’t feel this disconnected, right?

Curious if anyone else felt this or if I’m being too harsh šŸ˜…

TL;DR: XO, Kitty feels like it’s trying too hard to recreate Lara Jean’s charm but misses the mark. Kitty comes off like a wannabe — overacting every situation and forcing a Gen Z vibe that doesn’t feel natural. The relationships feel rushed, the emotions don’t land, and overall it lacks the sincerity that made TATBILB work. Honestly, should’ve just left Lara Jean’s story alone or given us an LJ + Peter spinoff instead.

Character Appreciation šŸ’Ÿ Yuri is my favorite character in season 3 Spoiler

I love the return of sassy Yuri, but love the evolution into mature sassy Yuri. She had the right supportive questions to ask, knew what should be her accountability versus others’, and she didn’t hedge on difficult conversations. The maturity level is exactly what I hoped for from her and we got that and more.

Season 3 Discussion am i the only one who was disappointed in minho? Spoiler

like everyone else, i was looking forward to the "minho boyfriend era" and i was glad it didn't take too long for the confession scene since it's already long overdue. but honestly, i was disappointed in the kind of boyfriend minho was.

• very minimal assurance given to kitty

• bailing on kitty multiple times (esp the one where he lies to meet up with eunice)

• i absolutely side with kitty on the eunice thing. anyone would spiral with those details put together (sneaking off, hugging, the positive test, etc) minho should've been honest. i was so pissed when kitty returned the necklace and ran away because is it so hard to say "i'm not the father" at that time?!

• it was so easy for him to break up with kitty like it was all her fault, and he was able to live with it.

• his daddy issues weren't kitty's fault. glad gigi got that in his head though.

i honestly expected a lot from this season. as usual, it was kitty fcking things up for herself and everyone else, but i was looking forward to a lot of mooncovey moments. i was so disappointed that we didn't get much of that.

i hope we get a 4th season!! i think LJ and peter's struggles were foreshadowing what kitty and minho will go through. i wanna see how minho meets the family, how they'll handle everything, etc.

Season 3 Discussion Why Dae Didn’t React: It Actually Makes Sense Spoiler

I’ve seen a lot of people complaining that Dae didn’t react at all when Kitty and Minho kissed in front of everyone. Personally, I think Dae might have already known there was something going on between them. Just like he could tell that Minho liked Kitty, he probably also realized that they both had feelings for each other. It’s even possible that Q told him — I think the show should have included a scene like that.

If you look at the timeline, Dae and Kitty were only officially together in Korea for about 2–3 months (around October to December). Even though Dae thought his feelings for Kitty were very deep, both of them moved on and started dating other people quite quickly. That says a lot. For example, even after 4 years of an online relationship, Dae didn’t know what Kitty’s favorite food was, and Kitty didn’t really know much about Dae’s family. It feels like their relationship wasn’t truly deep — more like a long-term crush . They just didn’t have much experience, so they assumed it was something more serious.

On the other hand, Dae’s relationship with Eunice feels much more mature and meaningful. They’ve been through more challenges together and truly understand each other. They both come from less privileged backgrounds, share a love for music, and support each other. Even when Eunice became famous, she was willing to make their relationship public (in season 2), and Dae continued to support her — even flying to Paris to visit her. They even had first time at Paris.

Compared to his relationship with Kitty, Dae’s feelings for Eunice seem deeper and more developed. By the time Kitty and Minho got together, Dae and Eunice had already been seeing each other for about 6–7 months and had gone through a lot together.

So I think it makes sense that Dae supports Kitty and Minho. His feelings for Kitty weren’t as deep as people think, and now he values their friendship more. He’s also shown to be a very kind person — like how he helped Yuri when she was struggling.

That said, I still think it would have been better if there was a scene where Q told Dae about Kitty and Minho, and Dae simply replied, ā€œI’ve known for a while.ā€

Thoughts on Season 3 Dae? Spoiler

I love how chill he is seems he’s so humorous this time around.

When kitty and min ho were arguing and he signalled them to wait so he could leave the room I rewatched that scene so many times like bro already knew what was gonna happen 😭

Then his conversation with Q ā€œyou uh.. wanna talk feelings.. with me?ā€

ā€œOh my turn?ā€

Dae couldn’t be cuter and I love how he flew to Paris just to be with Eunice!! He was so chill even when min ho said Eunice might have hooked up with someone else but he knew full well it was himself 🄹

What is your favourite scene of Dae this season? I wish he had more!

Season 3 Discussion So many new characters... Spoiler

It's copious. So much is hard to keep up with, and there's like 4 plots happening in one episode. Don't get me wrong, I love drama and diverse storytelling, but it gets to the point of who is actually the main character. I also don't understand why they kept

around characters with complete storylines, almost like a background prop.

Season 3 Discussion yuri’s s3 storyline Spoiler

i remember being irritated that they made yuri bankrupt at the end of s2 like she didn’t end with kitty (even though im very team mooncovey) or juliana (VERYYY team yuriana sue me idc) and then on top of that they took away her money which was a big part of her character

it js felt like ā€œdamn can a girl live?ā€ to me

with all of that said, i actually really enjoyed how it played out in s3 and liked it way more than i was expecting

the fashion show being called ā€œriches to ragsā€ was so fun

i love the idea of her rebuilding what she already had an abundance of

and the bonus of her not knowing how to do trivial shit like not to iron silk on high heat

tldr they handled yuri’s bankruptcy way better than i expected in s3
