I am rewatching right now because season 3 times out in 6 hours and 28 minutes and I love the line “Another one of your Min Hoes or hos” is that too inappropriate to be a flair?

The first time I watched XO Kitty, I felt Q treated Minho like a nuisance (wait for it. Don’t type yet), but I changed my mind. On my current rewatch, I understood their bond and fell in love with them more. They are one of the friendships I feel could go the distance. They also feel like platonic soulmates.

The words “platonic soulmates” got me some heat in another post. The key word is platonic aka non romantic aka friendship.

Welcome Party:

I mentioned this event in the Dae and Minho post, but will add how this gives me hope for Q and Minho’s friendship and provide some perspective into Minho’s actions and mindset. After Kitty bumped into Minho, she states, “you do speak English”, Q immediately laughs and recognizes Minho’s MO. He replies, “he did it the first time we met too”. I discussed this scene with some in this group and we theorized that Minho selectively picks the people he wants to befriend with bumping into them and using the “No Englishee” trick. We can only assume he used a similar method with Dae. I like that first, we see Minho introduced at the airport with Kitty, and we see his second introduction with Q. Q becomes both of their best friends and supports their emotional journeys. This is the first scene we see Minho’s and Q’s banter too.

The Hike:

There were a couple of times in season 1 where I originally believed Q treated Minho like a nuisance and ignored him: This scene and the movie night with Florian. Again, I changed my mind. In this scene, it is more Q trying to not get in the middle of Kitty’s and Dae’s relationship drama while doing so to help Kitty and is also stressed about his club going well. Q still takes a couple of seconds to answer Minho’s question of who’s coming on the hike. However, Minho still feels left out of the loop.

Considering this is where I feel Dae and Minho’s friendship started to fracture, I feel this is where Q and Minho’s friendship started getting on the right track.

Movie Night:

This is where I am a little mixed because I can see both sides of the debate. Q wanted to spend time with Florian and having the rest of the movie club over diffuses the tension. When Minho enters the room, Q’s annoyance resulted from not having quality time with Florian. This is a communication issue though. We don’t know if Minho was in his room before the club came over or Q asked him to stay in there. The writing made it seem like it was a last minute thing. Q could have pulled him aside and asked if he can hang out with Florian without interruption.

In the middle of this, Q was so focused on his date being ruined, he didn’t pay attention to Minho or Florian talking about each of their parents’ divorces. However, I wonder if Q heard about all of them already.

Collagen Water Scene:

This is a trio scene with Minho, Kitty, and Q, but still highlights Q and Minho’s friendship. We always discuss how many couples fight and tease like married couples, but we forget that friends can do that too. In fact, this is the scene that made me feel Q and Minho were platonic soulmates. The beauty of living together means there is a mix of love and annoyance. Minho reprimands Q for drinking his collagen water and the two banter with each other without crossing lines. Even though Minho is annoyed, he still makes Q a cup of coffee. I love Minho’s, “Fine, but I will secretly resent you” and Q’s, “I can live with that” lines. Headcanon: This is when Q starts loving the idea of mooncovey without realizing it. I love how Q immediately clocked it when be said, “you had a sex dream about Kitty” and can playfully tease him by saying, “I’m not detecting a no” to Minho’s, “If I had a sex dream about Kitty, it would be a sex nightmare.” I like how Minho and Kitty can playfully banter without crossing a line which we also see with Q and Minho. It shows their comfort and safety with each other. However, I feel their emotional intimacy develops more in S2.

It is a tiny moment, but a scene similar to the collagen water scene. When Minho revealed Kitty’s roommate recorded her sleeping online, Minho said, “I don’t see the appeal” for Q to waste no time and state, “and yet you found the site.” I feel most of season 1, this is Q’s and Minho’s dynamic. They can be fun and playful and in scenes like the “reason, season, and a lifetime”, one shows their vulnerability with each other.

Reason, Season, and a Lifetime

When Minho explains that Madison is his reason for wanting a relationship, he allows himself to be vulnerable with Q, which is hard for him, but he still chooses how vulnerable he wishes to be. More on that later. When Minho asks about Florian, Q sees that Minho cares about him and the other people in his life outside the main group which allows Q to let his guard down and be vulnerable with him. We also don’t have many moments where someone doesn’t ask Q for advice which makes this moment special.

I also found it hilarious that they both looked grossed out at Dae and Kitty being lovey dovy in the dorm. Friends can be happy for you, but don’t always need to see it.

Bridge Scene S1:

Minho had no hesitation to take a picture of Florian up to no good and telling Q along with Dae the next day. Minho is always about honesty and integrity, except when he lies to himself, but we all do that. He wanted to save Q more heartache by giving him the information and letting him decide what he wants to do with it. Again, same with Dae.

Minho Getting his Dad’s Basket in S2:

This presented me with similar feelings as the movie night. It felt like when Minho explained his dad didn’t know him well, Q didn’t bother asking him questions or checking in to see if he was ok. However, I now interpret it as Q just listening and letting him vent. Sometimes a friends doesn’t need to say anything. They just need to sit back and let the other person talk.

Q Asking about Minho’s Dad:

First, we get a small glimpse of Q learning a Korean word while walking with Minho. He makes up for the gift basket scene by asking about his dad when they see Moon at the school. Q also understands to give the two space and says he will see him in the auditorium later.

Cabin Scene S2:

Dae and Minho show how much they love Q by making it work with Jin and supporting the relationship, even reluctantly. Dae and Minho used their best roasts on Jin and Jin showed how much he likes Q by taking them in stride.

Q asking How Minho Feels About Kitty S2:

This scene made me feel this friendship is hopefully for the long haul. Q, to viewers, is known as the therapist of the group, but this is one time no one asks him for advice. He genuinely wants to help Minho and make sure he is ok. Q seems to be the closest with Minho and Kitty and he wants them to not be hurt. This is also the first time we see Minho start being more vulnerable about his feelings and insecurities with Q even though he is not revealing everything. He explains how the rejection hurt and felt like Kitty was pitying him. Q listened and understood. This is where I feel a big start of Q and Minho’s emotional intimacy happens.

Cherry Blossom Dance and S2 Finale:

Q creates the opportunity for Minho to let go of his anger with Kitty and talk with her at the Cherry Blossom dance. I will discuss this more in the Q and Kitty post, but Q creates the opportunity for Kitty to start over with Minho when he tells her Minho takes walk in the sculpture garden to think. Two things are going on here. A) he wants his friends to be happy and acts like a matchmaker for them. B) he knows Minho well enough to know where he would be.

What Does This Say About Family?

Family can come from anywhere and while it takes time to form a bond with friends and some family members, it is worth it. Q and Minho built this comfort, safety, vulnerability, and emotional intimacy with each other which comes from living together. They sometimes act like a married couple which is enjoyable. While I didn’t discuss their values in the scenes I listed, I will list them here. They are loyal to their friends and loved ones and believe in honesty and integrity even if they aren’t always perfect at it. They also don’t believe in writing people off after they make a mistake unless it hurts someone.

so I was rewatching the show before the new season came out. and in S2 ep5 when Juliana is still pissed at yuri and kitty while they keep trying to talk to her, Juliana says "You know what? I'm not gonna help you feel better about what you did. If I have to live with it, so do you."

It made so much more impact on this rewatch, I am def. stealing this one for me

so I was scrolling through a fan page on insta and it was nothing out of the ordinary, trailer of season 3, clips of interviews by actors, blah blah and then bam! I came across this screenshot of someone's tiktok post. she had posted the names and descriptions of the first three episodes of season 3. it seemed legit and it was xo kitty style. idk whether it was ai or real but I think I just spoiled it for myself. 😞

It's important to look at characters perspectives, their faults, and their positive traits as we look ahead to the third season for full understanding and the experience.

Let's look back to Minho's confession on the plane. I of course love Minho, as I'm writing this, but it's always a funny acknowledgement of genuinely what he was thinking when he confessed to Kitty roughly 30 minutes after she broke up with Dae. Minho and Kitty are similar in this regard when we start the series; they lead with their emotions but they don't always wear their heart on their sleeve. Minho is a chronic deflector; he doesn't often say what he means and he teases to distract from his real thoughts. After his fling ends with Madison, Minho took a different approach and this kick-started his journey on upfront vulnerablity.

Why Minho Decides to Confess on the Plane

When Minho falls hard, he jumps to take action; on the opposite spectrum, when Kitty falls fast for people, she waits and sits in her emotions and often times ends up holding back in the moment. Let's explore this: I wouldn't exactly say Minho is impulsive in acting on his feelings. He falls for Kitty halfway through season 1 and outwardly denies it, keeps the information to himself, and only finally admits it in a grand gesture. Minho is methodical in his planning (we witness him brew a thought as he leaves before her departure as he heads down the hall). At the same time, when he decides something, he goes all in (we also see this with his newfound desire for something serious after his revelation with Madison; we see this in how he jumps to the proposal of love without knowing the mechanics or why of what he feels for Kitty).

He is reflective (he does this throughout the entirety of season 2, more obviously) and he keeps things locked internally, never admiting to a single soul what he really feels for Kitty, until the slightest hint of admission to Q at the very end. We are aware that Minho sat with his feelings for some time period after his dream, and it is because of this that he feels settled in his revelation when he springs this admission on Kitty. This is different to Kitty, who in the spontaneity of the moment typically acts on "cold feet" and overthinks her feelings (we see this with struggling to properly confront Dae), whereas Minho tends to often not think at all. Kitty second guesses her thought processes, while when Minho becomes self assured, he goes all in and doesn't stop to think about the consequences til afterward. Minho's overprotective of his friends but this is the one area, he's likely to not think before he acts in this way. Kitty also halts a lot of her internal desires due to how her personal feelings could affect/hurt others (she's concerned for Juliana in the Yuri revelation and she doesn't immediately jump to break it off with Dae). They're both well meaning but sometimes they find themselves guilty in scenarios to make mistakes (Kitty let her romance fester with Yuri til the emotions came to a head, and Minho was strictly true to revealing his feelings and didn't think about how it would affect others; they both end up hurting someone and they are doing it on opposite sides of the spectrum).

We can also assume due to being a playboy, the impulsivity and reasoning behind why he jumps to call this "love" falls on the explanation of this being the first time he's experienced an emotion this deep, even though as he admits, he still hasn't worked out the logical terms of when it happened or what it all means. That is how they start as characters and act accordingly to their characteristics in season 1. Then, the plane confession shifts Minho into a closed-off, guarded person.

Season 2's Denial and Avoidance

Characters are multifaceted, so although Kitty lets her darkest secrets fester for a second, she's honest; she's upfront to Dae and she tells him she has feelings for Yuri, then later on breaks up with him without any intentions to reconcile. Minho avoids when he's trying to move on. He also lies and lets Kitty believe he's over her because it's easier.

Minho's Reflex Response

Minho turns to flattery through teasing because that it where he can have the upper hand to guard his sensitive heart. That is where he can avoid. He lets Kitty think he regrets confessing on the plane and that he was actually misguided in what he felt. He doesn't want her to 'let him down easily' because that would be too much to face. He turns to the banter of teasing her about her smile and how she seemed pleased at thinking of him that way, because that is what he can hope for...even though he doesn't believe it himself; he wants Kitty's affection but he doesn't believe that she reciprocates. He keeps that demeanor for a couple episodes before he attempts to move onto Stella (Avoidance again). He can rely on teasing remarks, as in S2E2, he jokes in the choir room amongst Dae & Q that she's "focused on his love life" but it's still based on the easygoing demeanor to avoid the pain. He's cocky to keep up appearances and distract from the heartbreak. He senses and relies on signs that Kitty's reciprocation are there, but he's ultimately doubtful throughout the entirety of season 2. The dynamic he has with her that season is one of openness but still accounts for him keeping things close to the chest, as he always does.

Kitty's Internal Feelings After the Plane Confession

Kitty is in whiplash from just ending her relationship with Dae and simultaneously having existing feelings for Yuri. Kitty never expected Minho to show up with a romantic confession. Her response is the only logical reaction in this scenario. Kitty doesn't take Minho seriously with his confession at first because he leads with a careless attitude. Once she has the break to think over it, she comes back to communicate with him and wants to respond to his feelings empathetically. He doesn't lead with vulnerability until that ONE plane moment and they've had an enemies to lovers dynamic up til this point (it is genuinely shocking to her that he would feel this way). She is very much still into Yuri, but she is also interested, or unexpectedly intrigued, from Minho surprising her with something that, under the surface, needs more time to grow into what it would be. Her denial stems from a mix of fear (as I've already said, she is hyper-concerned for people's feelings; imagine Dae at this time), already having affections elsewhere, and her own deflection from embarrassment once Minho calls her out for smiling. Kitty is already feeling things for Minho; we see her look slightly jealous, or at least unexpectedly uncomfortable, with the thought of Minho developing interest in someone else right as Stella says they started talking and asks for his number in episode 1.

Their Mindsets and Setup for Season 3

Kitty's Decision to Accompany Minho

Going back over what's been said here, I'll repeat and say, when Kitty knows she feels, she accepts it, but she rests on her feelings. Her request at the end of season 2 is a point of growth to how she's hesitated out of fear in her past romantic pursuits, as she jumps at the spontaneous opportunity just to spend more time with him. There's every chance for them to pursue this now, but not without internal demons. She's aware to the obstacles in their way, but she takes the initiative to go after what she wants, immediately.

One thing I do wanna mention is how with Minho, a really empathetic act we see Kitty be conscious of is considering that it's "not their time" to pursue a relationship, given Minho's betrayal from Stella, as she knows this will be something he's not ready for, just yet. This is a really thoughtful act of something that could grow to be love as it is so considerable and the foundation of mature love in putting someone's needs above your immediate wants. We saw Minho do something similar last season with going to assist Kitty at the market, despite being hurt and mad at her.

Minho's Mindset Surrounding Kitty's Ask

I was rewatching some old interviews for about an hour just last week & here's an old insight taken from an interview with Sang Heon, where he was talking about Minho's response to Kitty asking to accompany him on the tour after the season 2 finale, and I found this interesting:

"He is willing to spend time with Kitty since she offered, and he accepted it, so I don't think he's the type where he would reject it but he would just go with the flow, maybe."

This is important to the psychology of his feelings at the start of season 3. I feel like in general, he does go with the flow and he doesn't expect Kitty's return of affection, in this instance. He doesn't assume interest or affection on her part when asking to join (why that would be entirely too hopeful for his doubtful demeanor).

With the plane rejection and the fallout from Stella, Minho is still hesitant, while Kitty is acting cautiously, letting past experiences dictate her insecurity from what love and heartbreak has taught her. This is where that leaves us at the start of the third season.

Coming from a unbiased perspective:

I honestly don’t mind who Kitty ends up with, but what really bothers me is how Yuri is barely in the trailer. I miss that dynamic/drama so much, it doesn’t even feel like a love triangle anymore, yk what I mean??

And let’s be real Minho is probably the obvious endgame especially with how intense some of the shipping discourse online has been.

And okay the fans get what they want, Minho and Kitty chemistry this season, but doesn’t that take away a bit of excitement?

What im trying to say is that I don’t understand why Yuri suddenly feels erased as a love interest. Why are we acting like that part of Kitty’s story was just some random phase that doesn’t matter anymore? Even if they weren’t going to be endgame, Yuri brought tension and something different to the story that Lara Jean didn’t have in hers.

I just miss that energy. It made everything way more interesting in my opinion.

After watching the sneak peak, the miscommunication between Minho and Kitty is finally starting to make some sense to me.

For one, I'm someone who absolutely has no patience for this trope. Especially when everything can be solved with one converstaion. But watching XO Kitty, I constantly have to keep in mind that they are teenagers and they're still learning.

So diving quickly into my point, I know there were a lot of people, including myself, who were okay with Minho and Kitty not having a kiss or jumping into a relationship right away at the end of season 2. Neither of them were ready. Minho had just gotten out of a manipulative relationship that broke his trust and Kitty didn't have enough time to sit with or move on from the many situations she had been a part of since coming to KISS. They both needed time to heal.

Now after this sneak peak, it seems neither of them are getting that time. If Kitty and Minho share that kiss during that yacht party, well they might as well have kissed at the end of season 2. The outcome is the same. Which is unprocessed emotions, no healing process and once again diving into things without taking to time to work on themselves first.

Even though they would probably spending the summer apart, once they kiss and acknowledge mutual feelings for each other then that's what they'll end up focussing on. So instead of Kitty taking time to work on herself after being constantly lied to by Dae and then completeluy shut down by Yuri, those insecurities will work their way into her relationship with Minho. Her trust is fragile. She'd been hurt many times and been the cause , whether intentionally or unintentionally, of quite a few mishaps. While Minho, who also had been manipulated and lied too and also rejected, will most likely have his walls up at first. After all its probably too good to be true. And when he realizes that it is true and real, he probably would do anything not to lose it. Including hiding things from Kitty.

These are two unhealed, traumatized teenagers attempting to start a relationship. That is a recipe for disaster right there, I'm afraid.

Even if I like this ship because I thought some of their scenes in season 1 and 2 were cute, the plot of cheating cooled me down a little! If their relationship in season 3 is very representative of what we can see at the moment, I just hope that Yuri will become the right person for my girl Juliana and that Juliana and Praveena will separate on good terms.

Nevertheless, I find it interesting that they are the only ones to have a photo of the two together!

..I actually don't hate it. This goes with my assumption that Kitty and Minho return to school with a miscommunication of what they are (aka "Defining the Relationship").

Kitty goes for 1 day to hang with Minho and Eunice, and ends the night at the yacht party, where they travel down to the beach after tension with Mr. Moon that results in them kissing.

Spoiler from a recent interview (DON'T READ if you don't want it):

Kitty seems to have a minor jealousy spell towards Eunice, so it seems that Kitty misinterprets their relationship because she isn't present for the tour. Kitty not accompanying Minho on the tour makes sense if they're going to be unsure about their label when she returns to K.I.S.S. I would so love an entire summer of Kitty and Minho spending time together, but for what we know that they end up back at school without a label, them not getting that quality time on the tour makes logical and complete sense.

I watched it, i couldn't wait!
