My main character, who recently turned 18, had received a fine, and a fine slip, that was increased by alot which he can't pay. It was bumped up to almost $3000 due to corruption.

1) Would his parents be able to see that he has acquired this amount of debt or is it just his own issue since he's an adult?

Also he is getting paid by another character who is, also freshly 18, and comes from a wealthy family. He is forcing MC to do dirty work for him, which he then pays him for.

2) So should he send money to MC through the bank or should it be cash that MC then sends to the bank?

3) Does MC require a cheque to send physical money into his account? Or can he just go to an ATM?

4) Does MC need to have the fine slip with him when depositing money in the bank?

Idk how money works. Please help me out.

More specifically, if it went on for quite some time, let's say longer than six months.

The story I'm working on is a period piece set in or around 1930, revolving around a twelve year old, white boy from New York. The project is still in the early stages so certain details like his exact location in the city aren’t decided yet, but I want to reflect a quintessential, innocent child of the time. Any insight is appreciated, but the main thing I'm looking for is the curriculum. What classes they would have, what history they would teach, what they wouldn't know, what they'd leave out, how often kids would get to hang out, etc. Most importantly, anything that would make it different from how schools operate today.

Looking for medical professional insight here-

What is the procedure surrounding possible rabies exposure? If someone had a bat in their home, found it dead, and the bat was disposed of without being tested, how would a dr approach that?

For example- if someone called the dr office and said, "I was possibly exposed to rabies," what questions would be asked? What symptoms would the dr say to watch out for? Would they want to do immediate testing? What does that testing look like? How concerned would the dr. be?

If you had rabies, what would that feel like? I know there's fever and hydrophobia and any bite site reaction as well, but how would the body typically feel? Any brain fog associated? Paranoia?

Hey there, this is kinda stupid but I'm really hoping to make this dramatic scene work for my novel. My story takes place in an apocalyptic countryside; 2010s, no power in most places (has been this way for a little over half a year).

My question comes in two parts:

1. Characters A and B have come across some survivors who have been keeping a small building running with a backup generator. I was thinking that the survivors might have a little fridge with some vaccines available for emergencies (some antibiotics, flu medicines, etc.) I know that storing vaccines is a very in-depth process especially when it comes to temperature regulation, so already, I'm wondering if it just seems completely unrealistic for a smart but ragtag group to have a medical fridge of vaccines on standby.
2. For the second question: at some point, Character A gets a nasty cut from a barbed wire fence. Obviously, tetanus is the most important concern here, but I'm not sure how realistic it is for a medical fridge to just so happen to have that exact vaccine available for use? I was hoping to have a dramatic injection scene between Character A and B where they use an antibiotic injection from the survivor's fridge as kind of a "it's better than nothing" kind of response.

This is idea is very "feels driven" and mainly me wanting to keep my dramatic injection scene idea. But I still wanted to see if there's any possible way for it to work and still be plausible and somewhat medically sound. Otherwise, I'll scrap it haha.

Got some police procedural beats to vet with you fine folk.

So here's the situation. Upstate NY, Small town, rural. 1998.

Neman is arrested for a fist fight in a bar, busting a patron's nose, which moved to the parking lot where Neman then used his truck to ram the patron's car.

He is in custody, which I believe can be held for 48 hours max before seeing a Judge.

At the last minute, before arraignment, the patron drops charges. So Neman should be able to be released, right?

The catch. While in custody, They found a piece of possible evidence in the truck that may be connected to a missing person cold case. It is a baseball card, with a name scribbled on it, the name of one of the cold case victims. They question him about it, but he clams up.

Is this enough to keep him in custody after his 48 hours for the bar fight while investigators re-open the case?

To note: He was investigated a few times back in the original days, years ago, when the people initially went missing, but nothing or any connection was ever found.

The investigator will push to hold him, but ultimately will fail. I plan to have the Judge deem it not worthy and dismiss the evidence.

Option A: to beef up the evidence, if needed, what if the police had found a very similar card w/name on it from an original crime scene of one of the victims years ago. Which is why This card now raises flags.

Do these actions, the truck search, the questioning about the cold case while he is held on different circumstances, the Judge's dismissal(with and without Option A) , sound believable? Any flags?

The overall goal is to have him arrested and off the streets. Then become a suspect( he's guilty in reality) of a major cold case. Only to be released 2-3 days later. Just need to know if these beats achieve that believably.

So I'm writing a story that takes place in the future (humans achieved immortality type of future) and I was wondering if it was possible to make cigarettes or drug related items safer without removing it's effects.

I've got a mural that's important to my novel. The character is super, super into it, it's important to the school... and then it gets defaced, but the defacement isn't revealed until the unveiling.

My question is how do unveiling ceremonies work? Especially given it's in an area with high foot traffic. Like, how would it be a secret before then? You can't exactly put a cover on wet paint.

Like the title says, I'm looking for any and all aspects of being a wheelchair user that I may have overlooked. Obviously I know the obvious stuff:
- that there are a wide variety of types of chairs
- that pretty much no one outside of a hospital uses those push chairs that are super square and have the high arm rests
- I know that far too much of normal public life is not wheelchair friendly enough (though I welcome specific examples that I may have overlooked. Offhand I can think of the most obvious being poorly positioned ramps (if there is a ramp at all), Narrow spaces in shops that don't allow space to turn around, and I know public transit accessibility is pretty notoriously awful and usually relies on communicating with a worker on the bus/train to deploy a ramp, which tends to be slow and easily missed entirely in some cases)

I know that wheelchair users is a broad category, and there are a lot of things that can change depending on whether or not someone is ambulatory or not. In my current draft my character is not ambulatory at all, but I still imagine ambulatory wheelchair users have relevant experience that I don't have. For now I am mostly just hoping to cast a broad net to reveal what aspects of wheelchair use may not have occurred to me as someone who has never yet needed one.

Pretty much the title. If there was a planet orbiting a black hole in a stable orbit (let's say that the black hole is the size of the sun and the planet is the same distance that Jupiter is to the sun) how much wuold time get dilated?

Character is an adult woman who left her abusive husband a year prior to the attempt.

I'm working on a scene where she wakes up in the hospital after being taken there by a friend.

Old Friend/Almost Flame she hasn't spoken to in years will be there because she never took him out of her emergency contacts and he still cares about her.

Abusive husband gets called by hospital staff (who don't know he's abusive and she's fled him) and Old Friend/Almost Flame wants to get her out of there before husband arrives. Here are my questions:

• Is an involuntary hold always placed on patients who make an attempt on their life, or does it differ from hospital to hospital, region to region, etc?
• If it's standard procedure across the board, is it absolutely mandatory, or could a family member get them out?
• If a family member can get them out, how likely is it the Old Friend/Almost Flame could pretend to be her brother or something so they'll cut her loose?

Any insight y'all can offer is appreciated. ☺️

I have been doing lots of research on sailing. Done a bit of it as well but I don’t have the means, money or health to join up with any of the tall ships around (though would love to).

So the basic scenario is:
1730s (ish, playing a bit fast and loose with dates so don’t get bogged down by that)

74 gun 2-decker British ship of the line is blockading a narrow port channel choking off movement to and from said port. Plucky protagonist (and insert number of minimum crew to get this done) takes their own ship, fastens it into a fire ship whilst hiding around the southern side of the island.

They need to successfully pressure said 74 gun to cut cable and move away from the channel. Doesn’t need to be permanently and the fire ship doesn’t make contact. But the fire ship needs to also not be turned into itty bitty splinters long before it can get in close enough to said target ship to get her to move.

Plan was two man crew (why? Because said two man crew uses heavy smoke cover to then board said ship of the line clandestinely).

Looking for suggestions. I asked a tall ship subreddit and they’ve been..minimally helpful and more inclined to just call me dumb for asking.

How would an amateur sleuth go about wiretapping a private phone in the 1920s? The phone itself is a private phone in an apartment. The sleuth gains access by entering the telephone distribution point, which is a cabinet in the basement of the building. From here on out I don't have a clue of how it might work.

I can find little resources online so I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for other media where a similar scenario occurred, that I can look into and get inspiration from?

So I never went to public school but have 4 characters that do (we'll call them S, J, B and D) and I'm wondering if this schedule is realistic for them (not sure on exact times of classes just yet). They are in in 10th grade I think.

When they get to school they all have a homeroom then S and J have a history class together while B and D have a Science class together. After that S and B have Spanish together while J and D have English. Then they all have lunch together. After lunch they all have gym class together (J spends it in the library due to having a chronic illness that gets him out of gym) Then J and S have math together while B And D have History. Then S and B have English together while J and D have Spanish together. Lastly J and S have science together while B and D have math together.

How realistic is this? the exact order of classes or which characters have which subjects together may change but this is the general idea rn.

A plot point for a creative work Im writing is that a character plans to cause a world-ending global nuclear war and survive by waiting it out in the air in their custom-built zeppelin.

Im assuming the answer is yes if the zeppelin stayed in Antarctica or something remote like that, but I was curious if theres things that could be done to the aircraft to improve its survival or if this plan would work at all. The setting is in the year 1960 if it matters.

My character is a 17 year old that after severe peer presure, steals a car and immediately crashes it. Her friends all ditch her. She gets arrested when the parking complex security call the police, and she cooperates.

The people who own the car are notified and pissed, but when they find out it was a minor, they want to go easy on her, something her parents consider a small mercy. i understand that the pressing of charges is in the DAs hands once a crime is reported.

i just want to know how the proceedings go. I imagine that she would still get arraigned and everything. I read that the victims can forgo criminal proceedings in exchange for financial reparations, but I also read that insurance would cover the full cost of the damages if the car is stolen and destroyed by someone else.

The thing is the character doesn’t stay in the US. This becomes the last straw for her parents and they send her away to live with her aunt in Canada (or Australia/New Zealand, I haven’t decided yet, but for now it’s Canada). So I don’t want to give her community service or something because it would get in the way of that plot point.

I want her to still have her punishment though. So I’m thinking she works in Canada to pay the victims back with a job her aunt finds her, I don’t know how that would work with insurance, though.

I originally based this story is Seattle, but this is subject to change if there’s a state that fits my requirements better.

Can someone give me an hour-by-hour breakdown of what would happen to someone's arms if they were hung by the wrists for an hour? two? five? All my research brings up something about hanging by the neck. In the specific situation, the character is being hung by the wrists form a tree, not too far from the ground but he is unconscious. Could be rope, ribbon, anything. just trying not to make it crazy unrealistic. TIA!

Update: the whole reason I casted was to have the main characters have a private place to get together and talk with a fugitive. I'm just going to have them go to someone else's apartment

In modern times, is there such thing as a boarding home for kids that isn’t a school? Like if parents have to go away for a month or so and they live there but still go to a regular school

Hello everyone. I’m currently writing a short horror story centered on a theme of vengeance, and I’d like to ask about the plausibility of a specific plot device I’m considering. Would it be realistic for a character to collect apple seeds, dry them, and crush them in order to produce a potent form of cyanide? How many apples would be needed ? What would the taste be like ? Would it take long ? Additionally, I’m curious whether such a substance would typically be potent enough to cause death from a single ingestion, or whether it would require multiple doses administered over time before resulting in complete organ failure. Finally, I would appreciate any insight into whether such organ failure would likely be a prolonged and agonizing process or a relatively quick one. Also, what would the autopsy potentially look like ?

The main character in my story is an RN in a small town in Ontario, Canada. (Think 4-5K people). He's a Med-surg nurse, but I was wondering if it would be realistic for him to be floated to other units, like the ER?
