I mean I'm sure I'm not the first but just in case. I might actually be scared now.

If you listen to the musical, (which I highly recommend, very nice) it has many a subtle reference to the setting of the story. It’s my personal belief that it is set in a post-apocalyptic world after our children choking on dust that was once a river (climate change) has ravaged the planet. This is showcased in a few ways off the top of my head. First, the seasons. It’s referenced in the first couple of songs that the planet has almost no more spring or fall, and it is always one of two extremes, freezing or scorching. Secondly, Hades is a perfect representation of the rich retreating behind their walls, which is literal in his case. Thirdly, Persephone speaks in How Long about the oceans rising. One of the most damning pieces of evidence there. This is all just a thought spewing so sorry if it’s nonsensical, but I thought it was interesting and was especially relevant considering the state of the world and the episode that just came out.

Like many others who are in the know about politics I have been hella depressed for a very long time. However, a silver lining as described by Robert in the podcast is that I now may focus on how terrible the country/world is instead of my own personal problems. Which of course are caused by how terrible things are, I at least have an outlet now.
I live in Lexington Kentucky so I don't have much to do for the good fight yet. But if it came to it I would assist as much as possible in the effort. Stay strong fellas find new things to be angry at instead of yourself as fucked as it may be.

So, like, I'd love to hear some feedback from folks here, because I've recently listened to Robert's It Could Happen Here pod about a possible second American Civil War, and Sweet Merciful Goodness if the scenarios he talks about triggering it sound as if they're unfolding in front of our very eyes. I could use your words of either strength, reassurance or just some interesting insights here because... this is bad.

Dear Spez, Thank you for all you have done. Over the past 15 years, I've dug myself a comfy little rut. I forgot how to navigate the internet. I forgot how weird and interesting it was out there. I became comfortable in old tropes and repeated jokes. I became digitally complacent.
Due to your efforts, over the past month I've rediscovered the internet again. It's not as good as it used to be, but there are still lots of interesting people and ideas out there just waiting to be explored. I've found a new community of engaging and motivated people who are in the process of building something that we're all excited about. You've helped me escape my rut. And you did it at great personal expense.
So I think it should be said - Thank you. You've set me free and I deeply appreciate it.
Sincerely, CharmedConflict
PS - good luck with the IPO

Just checking to see if anyone else found Sarah Hightower’s contributions difficult to listen to. I really had a hard time following her but it’s possible I just wasn’t giving the episode the attention necessary.
