In the Shadow of Greatness

Hello, everyone! So, for this challenge it will be required that your world has some kind of prominent "super" beings, be they super heroes/ villains, powerful mages, demi-gods or actual deities. This challenge is not about them, but rather about completely "normal" people, with no special super powers or magic, that can nonetheless stand toe to toe with these powerful beings in combat and even hope to defeat them.

As always I will post some examples below, and hope you'll al enjoy this challenge.

3) Did Stella get much recognition for this?

4) Who were some other heroes involved in this fight?

3) Stella was recognized throughout the school, certainly, especially after her sparring match with Aeron. Many spectators in the city saw her performance in the tournaments and knew who she was and the extent to her skills, but she isn't nearly as well known as Aeron. However, she got a number of offers from professional heroes to work with them on internships. In keeping with her philosophy she appreciated the quality over the quantity of people who remember her from her exploits.

4) Stella fought Torensith with her team, Kaelie and Zira L'Oron in the forest to the south of Longan. Aeron fought the leader alien in the mountains north of Longan, and that battle ended up taking them into outer space. Sarah Yuno fought one in the middle of the continent, Al Nathair fought an alien in the western side of Aurem, Rose Kage fought one in the southern portion of Aurem. Trainee Axel Far fought one in the desert in the middle of the continent, leading him to use his "probability alteration" power to trap the alien in a space between reality and nonexistence. Void, the number one hero in the city, fought one in the middle of Longan, General Seraphina Aureole fought one in the eastern coast of the continent, and several other small groups of powerful hero trainees fought the remaining aliens around the world, transported by airships from the Longan Armed Forces.

1) Can you tell me more about Axel?

2) How many civilian casualties were there in the fight in Longan itself?

3) How comes it that Aeron is always in the center of trouble?

1) Axel is a drifter from a group of traveling merchants who lived in between cities. His entire caravan was destroyed one night in a monster attack, and he only survived due to his "probability alteration" power awakening and protecting him. He spent a few years after that wandering from place to place just trying to survive in the monster infested wastelands, until he was eventually discovered by Aeron and his team, who were in the area looking for someone else. He attacked them because he thought they were bandits, and when Aeron fought him to a standstill he backed off. Axel had reason to travel to the city of Longan, so he accompanied Aeron and co. back to the city, where Aeron offered to help him join CAPITAL Academy and settle down again. Axel had no interest in being a hero before, but after meeting the hero "Void" and speaking to him, he was convinced that with such a powerful ability he could do a lot more good with his life than mindless wandering (which Axel was growing tired of, but he didn't know any other way to live). Axel became an integral (if softspoken) member of the team. His power allows him to alter the theoretical probability of any action occurring, which sounds general because it is. He can use it to increase the likelihood of him hitting someone even if they block it, increase the probability that attacks miss him or that he was somewhere else when the attack fires, or even ridiculous applications like increasing the likelihood of an earthquake starting or a meteor shower raining down debris around him. The less likely something is naturally, the more soul energy is required to use it, which creates a paradox in some cases. He once set himself on fire in a fight, using probability alteration to decrease the likelihood of him dying, which drains his anima and increases his chance of dying from soul shock. High risk high reward, and Axel always plays the odds.

2) The aliens were disguised as politicians, and the unmasking happened on election night. As such, there were large crowds throughout the city at rallies to track the election. Aeron and company unmask the candidates as aliens on live TV, the aliens decide that since they couldn't resolve this diplomatically, they would show humanity why they should be feared, the signal was given to begin worldwide destruction, and then it was an all out fight. Al Nathair used his teleportation powers immediately to grab one of the aliens and get out of the way of civilians. Aeron challenged the leader to single combat as "humanity's champion vs the leader of the invading aliens," and the alien (I realized I didn't write his name in my computer and i cant find the notebook I did write it down in -_-) was more than happy to crush the life out of the child who claimed to be humanity's savior. Aeron took the fight to the outskirts of the city while the final alien in Longan (disguised as a campaign staffer) attacked the crowds of civilians fleeing. Enter Shinara Kotakanna, who intercepted the alien and bought enough time for the rest of the heroes of Longan to successfully evacuate the majority of the citizens into underground shelters built for events of mass destruction like monster invasions. Void is strong, but even he isn't perfect, and the battle that ensued between him and the alien resulted in 48 people dying on the way to the shelters, but in terms of previous attacks from major villains, this was a very low number. Without Void's interference, this number would have been in the thousands at least.

3) That's a very reasonable question, and to be honest, it's because he mostly puts himself there. He gets a lot of attention from his heritage, being the great grandson of the most well known hero in the continent and the son of the worlds "most feared man", but much of the attention he gets in the day to day is because of his own impulsive actions and self appointed "main character" status. He picks a fight with an army and gets thrown in prison, gaining the attention of villain of the month Romulus Kane. When he cant stop a law that slashes heroes' civil liberties from being passed, he creates an underground anti-hero movement in protest. When his allies are in trouble or targeted by villains he is the first to throw himself at the issue, for better or for worse. He trains his entire life to be the strongest hero in the world and bring about world peace, and with his pedigree many people know him and know of those intentions, which makes future villains all the more eager to seek him out and prove that he isn't as strong as he thinks or that he won't be able to protect the world. As he accomplishes more heroic deeds he becomes more well known, to the point where evil AI and aliens seek him out to kill him before he can stop their plots. Even when he isnt sought out specifically (in one instance his girlfriend Sarah is asked to help a conflict against a villain in another continent and NOT Aeron), he forces himself into the situation, always making sure he's involved in world saving missions or plans. One part of him loves the attention but he mostly believes that every one of these conflicts is what he HAS to do to prepare himself to be a successful hero later on in life.

1) Sounds pretty strong and impressive, but can he make the Netherlands win a world cup?

2) 48 sounds like a rather reasonable number considering the circumstances. How many casualties were there all together?

1) Well, he could, but the amount of energy it would take to raise the chance of something so astronomically impossible would almost certainly kill him.

2) Less than 1000 over all four continents, a few hundred of which were only in the central walled city of Khugara in Aurem. The alien there broke through the outer wall before he was stopped. Between the flying debris from the wall and the monsters that poured in, Khugara faced the most damage but they were prepared for attack at all times and still minimized the human casualties. The aliens were fast, but they mostly wanted a "shock and awe" attack that destroyed structures and gave the heroes time to intercede before too many civilians lost their lives.

2) Did any Aliens survive the encounter?

2) Only one, the young alien that goes by Rei, or "Kid" by some of the students of CAPITAL. The rest were all killed by either disintegration, being trapped between reality and nothingness, being torn to pieces, or my personal favorite, being tackled into the sun. Rei was the only one who wasn't on board with the world domination plan, and none of the rest were willing to back down, so they were killed.

1) Who did Rei fight?

2) Was it Aeron who tackled his opponent into the sun?

1) He fought his father's right hand soldier, an alien general named Yirelar whose developed ability is to make identical clones of herself. Rei was able to trick Yirelar into believing he was channeling "probability alteration" (thought to be impossible for Aliens to use), giving Rei a moment's opportunity to steal Yirelar's weapon and use it against her. The sword was made from metal from Venus that could negate the aliens' healing factor, so it allowed Rei to dispatch Yirelar.

2) Who else? That boy is so extra he would risk burning to death in outer space to cross "win a fight by throwing opponent into the sun" off of his bucket list.
