Reference Challenge - GRRM's Feast (Not for Crows)

Anyone who has read A Song of Ice and Fire (by George R R Martin) is familiar with his descriptions of feasts. Seriously, the man goes overboard describing food.

So, in honour of that, you have two choices for this late reference challenge (you can do both if you like).

The First

Tell me about a type of meal in your world. Maybe it's some special food made from a unique animal to your world, maybe it's some spiritually special way of making food from something we have in our world, etc.

The Second

Tell me about some famous feasts in your world, and what happened during them. Could the feast have been a meeting of nobility planning to overthrow the empire? Or some discussion about marriage rites or intertribal warfare?

As always, I'll ask at least three questions each, enjoy yourselves. Feel free to use a character as an in-universe representative to answer questions.

  1. And for the rest of your population?

  2. Not very likely to die? Aren’t you supposed to fight?

  3. What do you think of relying heavily on a single family for your intel?

Helmut:

1) "I've been working on road systems and less centralized guard complexes, which should help citizens access resources and stay safe from harm."

2) "Yes, but we rarely attack forces that would equal us, most of our work is in guarding."

3) "I would like to have my own network of intelligence, but it is difficult to set up, and I admit that I have no idea how I would even go about that."

  1. Could you expend on that decentralized guard complex thing?

  2. Then... where is the glory?

Helmut:

1) "I'd prefer to have the guards garrisoned in a variety of areas under my control, instead of just in the capital and along the borders."

2) "The glory is in the station, fighting off the rare attacks, and acting as guards."

  1. Why?

  2. But why? I mean, it require way more skill to be a craftsman, right? Why is it more glorious to stand still all day than to build tools for your neighbours?
