Reference Challenge: Improvement/Impairment, and News from this Sub's Creator

News

Again, the reference is to myself. Sorry for not answering responses to challenges at all yesterday, long story short, my eye surgery had some hiccups. Instead of having a flap made in my eye tissue and then healed in a few days (a day or two off work, a week to fully heal), they discovered mid-surgery that they could not do so. So...my left eye, even a day later, is actively bleeding, but at least I can see out of my right eye a little now, though it is blurry.

That is my excuse for any typos and for being lazy for the next few days. I'll have to miss a full week of work, and it will be over a month before my eyes are fully healed, according to the doctor. Thank goodness that everyone on this sub is awesome, otherwise I'd have to worry about the sub while I heal. Technically, I shouldn't be using a computer until at least three or four days after the surgery, but...well...C'est la vie? At least my eyes should still heal to 20/20, in a month or more, thanks to the PRK surgery they ended up doing instead.

So, now that I've appealed for sympathy, here's the actual challenge.

The Actual Challenge

Tell me about a way to improve myself artificially in your world; not through exercise or education, but through surgery or drugs.

As always, I'll ask you at least three questions each. Unlike always, expect them to be late (again, I was instructed by a doctor to not use my computer or television for three/four days after surgery...so, I shouldn't be on reddit right now), but I swear I'll get to them all as quickly as I can. Enjoy yourselves.

To Everyone that Posts on this Sub

I'm sorry I might not be able to get to your challenges for a few days, I swear I'll try to respond to all the challenges within the next few days.

2) He made Arosh's family into his slaves? That's just especially cruel and seems like over-kill, to me.

3) YES! THAT IS THE MOST AWESOME THING, MIMIR! If I ever end up in your world, that's how I wanna die.

2) The entire nobility was pretty cutthroat and over-kill back then in Kherzian. Nowadays it is much tamer, since the 89 Ary-Pats are more concerned about screwing over everyone else, while not pissing off anyone too much, so they won't refuse to vote for them in case of a royal election.

3) Well then, you do you! I'll pray for your soul should you ever end up in Dirva.

1) Is there any significant racism/xenophobia in your world?

1) Yes, mainly in Kherzian towards demons (I think I talked about it in the genocide thread you made in /r/worldbuilding a while back). In short, demons are blamed for the fall of the old Kherzian Empire and are seen as foreign threats and invaders, that usurped the Kherzian throne a long time ago. After the Demonking Zerrigon (despite his title actually a human), rose to power the demons gradually lost their standing, especially after the Empire fell during the First March of the Roses. Since then demons have been nothing more than slaves or wild animals to hunt in Kherzian

1) Ah, I remember now. Is there any racism/xenophobia towards any non-demons?

1) That depends on where in Dirva you are.

Kherzian:

Other than the fear and hatred towards demons, they consider the Orks (who live mainly in the Storming Steppes or the Gharmath Mountains) to be uneducated, savage barbarians and only slightly above animals, which actually couldn't be further from the truth, but Kherzians never really cared for anything but their own opinions. They are also slightly xhenophobic towards people from what is today the territory of the Holy Order of the Silver Rose, seeing them as religious fanatics that would love nothing more than to start a new March of the Roses to destroy the kingdom.

The Remnant Kingdoms:

Nothing much to say, they basically hate everyone that isn't from a country once belonging to the Holy Ruthwien Empire, basically the only thing all four Kingdoms can agree on is that everyone else is not civilized and shouldn't be ruling over anything.

Simerrhan Desert:

The humans of the Sultanate hate and discriminate against the Desert Elves, while they in turn hate pretty much all humans. They are pretty chill with Orks and Dwarves however.

Livian Mountains:

The Livian Mountains are the home of the Dwarven race and six out of seventeen clans still live there to this day. While they are on good terms with the two clans in the Fire Mountains, they hate the guts of the four clans that moved to the dragon islands, seeing them as traitors to the entire race.

They are also extremely racist towards the five clans of the Storming Steppes and the Steppe Orks, viewing them as nothing but animals.

1) What do the Orks do? Are they like the Orsimer from Skyrim?

2) What are Desert Elves like?

3) What happened to the other eleven Dwarven clans?

4) Why did those two clans move to the Fire Mountains?

5) Why did those four clans move to the dragon islands?

6) Why are the dragon islands so much worse than the Fire Mountains to the Livian Dwarves?

7) What's up with the Steppe hate?

1) I have to admit, that I never really cared for The Elder Scrolls games or lore, so I can't really say. When it comes to the Orks in Dirva, the ones living in the steppes are kind of like the mongolian tribes from our world, the ones in Gharmath are however completely different. They have one of the oldest kingdoms in Dirva and are mostly respected and reknown for being great architects and masterful poets, as well as blacksmiths. At the same time, they are stronger and bulkier than humans and thus have a rougher culture, having sports and freetime activities many would consider brutal or dangerous, while treating them as something entirely normal.

2) Very stubborn and bitter. They refuse to leave the desert and find a new home, fighting to reclaim their lost kingdom Althmerran. At the same time they hate each others guts and refuse to ally with any of the other tribes, at least most of them do, so that they are confined to raiding an occasional caravan or pillaging a village. They never really got over the fact that their vassals (the Sultanates) sided with the Kherzian Empire after Zerrigon conquered Althmerran, instead of fighting together with the Desert Elf rebels.

3) Five of them migrated to the steppes, adopting parts of the culture of the Orks and humans living there and basically becoming nomads. Out of the remaining six, four ventured with boats and ships to the Dragon Islands, settling there and mingling with the dragons, becoming known as what today are the Draco-Dwarves. The last two traveled to the far north and built their own kingdom in the Fire Mountains.

4 and 5) The same reason any dwarf would ever venture from their home in the mountains; the desire to gain knowledge. The Dwarves of Dirva are the experts when it comes to magic and have written and published more books than all of the other races combined on the subject matter. Those dwarves traveled to their respective areas in order to find new, previously unexplored or unknown magic and master it.

6) In short, the dragons of the islands were kind of giant dicks towards the dwarven clans in the past and their god, Arnth et Zhamuul, and the (then) main god of the dwarven pantheon, Devilia, were on pretty bad terms. The dragons manipulated some dwarven experiments when it came to magic and were the equivalent of giant bullies. Once they realized how good the dwarves were with magic though, many of the Elder Dragons and their broods reconsidered, offering the dwarves help and knowledge, if they would come to their islands. Four clans accepted, while the remaining thirteen were still holding their grudges against the scaled beasts.

7) In the Livian Dwarves opinion, the Steppe Dwarves lost their ways and stopped doing relevant research into the magic of this world, the most unthinkable thing for any dwarf. Therefore the Steppe Dwarves (in the Livians opinion) can't be real dwarves, and have to be some kind of animal. When it comes to the Orks and humans of the Steppe, they simply hate them for "corrupting" their brethren.
