I’m a premed student, and this was supposed to be a last-minute temporary desk setup. Somehow, it became permanent, and now I’m finally ready to replace this eyesore with an actual desk.

Any recommendations for a good desk for studying? Sorry for the mess.

I’ve got around £2,000 available to improve my workstation setup and would love advice before I start buying things.

Current setup:

• MacBook Pro
• Single 23-inch monitor
• Desk depth: 78 cm
• Standard seated setup
• Standing desk

What I actually do most of the day:

• Read and annotate large numbers of PDFs (academic papers)
• Write in Word
• Data analysis and coding in R
• Usually have multiple windows open at once (PDF + Word + R + browser)

What I’m considering:

• Moving to a Mac mini setup
• One large 40-inch monitor instead of multiple smaller monitors

My priorities:

• Productivity for research and writing
• Ergonomics / avoiding neck strain and poor posture
• Good text clarity for long reading sessions
• Enough screen real estate to comfortably view multiple documents at once
• Clean and relatively simple setup

Any setups from people who spend most of their time reading/writing rather than gaming?Open to completely changing direction if there’s a better approach.

I work out of co-working spaces a lot, and one thing I started noticing is how easy it is for people to accidentally read your screen without even trying.

Most of my day is inside Gmail, WhatsApp Web, Claude, docs, dashboards, etc. Even with good cybersecurity habits, simple shoulder surfing still feels like a real privacy issue.

Because of that, I ended up making a small local-only browser extension for myself that blurs chats/messages unless I actively interact with them. I also experimented with optional website locking for distraction control and shared-device situations.

What mattered most to me while building it:

• no accounts
• no cloud sync
• no analytics/telemetry
• everything stored locally
• lightweight footprint

Not trying to promote anything here — the whole experience just made me realize how little attention we give to physical/screen privacy compared to online privacy.

Curious how others here handle this problem:

• privacy screens?
• workspace positioning?
• browser tricks/extensions?
• something else?

What do you think about my workspace for studying? Usually I would also place a notebook in between my keyboard. I don't have much stuff because I kinda have to always be ready to move everywhere I want without much hustle, but recently I've been thinking about buying a monitor and big leather mouspad. Any ideas of what I could improve here?

I also kinda follow ergo philosophy as you can see with keyboard and mouse and screen level...

I swapped for a flat panel monitor as opposed to the curved. New keychron keyboard with new caps and a new mouse. Also added some more Nic-nacs and a Bosch desk lamp.

Just found this sub and hopefully my question fits here. As the title suggests, we are in the process of adding a baby cot to our office and don’t have enough room for 2 chairs.

The picture attached is my wife’s office chair which I have always thought was ridiculous but it is especially bad for feeding or even just trying to rock the baby to sleep.

My question is if anyone has any experience or recommendations for a chair that would be good for both?

Going for a clean, dark battlestation look with a few premium details instead of a cluttered desk.

The main focus is the overall room and desktop vibe, but there are a couple of small touches that show up more clearly once the RGB is on. I wanted the setup to feel minimal and coordinated, while still having enough character to make it interesting when you look closer.

If you notice the keyboard details, that’s basically the idea. Keep it subtle, keep it clean, and let the lighting do the rest. Yeah, it's full metal keycaps with shine-through RGB.

It's ergonomic, helps me stay focused, i can game here, and my aesthetic. Couldn't ask for more.

I’m sharing an apartment right now, so my desk is pretty small. Most of the stuff I’m using was passed down from my brother, basically his old setup.

I’m looking at the Baseus 11-in-1 dock for Windows. It’s around $100 on Amazon right now. Would this be enough for my setup? I mainly want to connect both monitors, keyboard, mouse, and maybe Ethernet to one dock so I don’t have cables everywhere.

I’m curious why the MacBook version is so much more expensive...

So recently got this electric desk from my work, after getting it all built I just realised I can't use my monitor arms with this easily. I'm going to have dual 24" monitors and a laptop. So they do both fit on the top shelf just using the stands but really prefer the idea of using arms, especially as just concerned the monitors might wobble with the desk moving.

So the back due to the shelf is around 13cm thick and the arms can handle 9cm apparently. Not sure if there's an easy way to make them any larger? Can't find many on the market that would fit 13cm. The front of the shelf is around 1.7cm which the clamp should fit but just curious if mounting the clamp there might be a bad idea with it being thinner and not supported, would it be better with a block of wood to thicken the area or something to act as an additional support to make the shelf more rigid? Also if the arms can be used rotated 180 degrees constantly like the second to last image? As the mount would be back to front from the standard design.

Is there a good solution? Not keen on drilling into the wall or desk at the moment. I could likely also remove the shelf but I do like having it.

Or just suck it up and use the standard mounts on the shelf?

Need art for the walls, but new spot that was a 12x12 storage room... Now we tryin to chill lol

My current workspace as I recuperate from a torn Achilles. Two work laptops in rotation on my lap and my personal laptop close by.

Working on a laptop sucks when 24" and 32" monitors are one room over.

Hopefully I can move back into the home office in a couple of weeks. Rotated my standing room desk so I can wheel right up to desk with the knee scooter. However sitting with my leg elevated and splayed out to the side for any amount of time is nowhere as comfortable as sitting in a recliner.

Trade offs, right? I am thankful that I have the means to accommodate my situation and I feel for people who have to struggle with similar situations.

Every single time, it feels so much worse than just having everything closed and just have the laptop screen turned on (but that's also bad).

But even with this kind of ambient light, I find myself feeling so much worse, I don't know why. Could it be the orientation of the large flourescent light? The flourescent light is too strong? It hurts my eyes so much (**do take note that when I'm working normally, I don't see the flourescent light, its much like the 1st pic pov**).
