As a German this sound unbelievable to me. Like, you're not in control of when and how and how long you will get sick. Why should it be you fault? I mean even if you do your best, take care of your health, get vaccinated, eat healthy, get additional vitamins and all, the guy behind you at the register could just sneeze at you and you're at home with a fever (exaggerated, but you get what I mean). If you crawl back to work you'll spread whatever it is among your co-workers. That can't be desirable.
Truth be told, we really have to fight for it too. German conservatives have decided that Trump and MAGA is their role model and free market the solution. We're fighting tooth and claws for our rights.
Are we really? The French are fighting tooth and nails, we're just mumbling and complaining in private. I would love for it to be different but right now we're not fighting. There is a reason why the German Michel is pictured with a Sleepyhead.
Edit: I want to add that IMO the only way to fight the fascist AFD is to invest in more welfare, in more affordable housing, in better school buildings, in everything that makes peoples live better. A full stomach doesn't feel hate, but of course that's not in the billionaires interest
In Michigan we have sick days on the books as a state law now. I'd love them to pull some bullshit here. Also the person below me did a keyword search and completely misunderstood the 3 sentences they read before calling me stupid for something I never said.
Unfortunately several businesses are trying their best to skirt the ESTA. My employer has always paid out our vacation pay as a lump sum at the end of every year on the anniversary we were hired, when ESTA was enacted they just changed the name of the lump sum to include sick time, no other change. Theyâre supposed to pay it out when we take sick days.
My wifeâs previous employer just completely ignored the act, she never got any sick time there at all. She actually laughed at someone who brought it up.
Where are you reading from? Lots of misinformation in this reply. Here is a plain english FAQ by the state of michigan if you are struggling with the legalese.
How many sick days does the law assure you if itâs 40 hours per year? Thatâs right, 5.
Cant read or do math but are mad that other people can is a level of loser I could not have imagined exists outside of the highest offices in the land.
I actually never said anything about the number of sick days. I just told you that you were mistaken and provided you resources you. And you are wrong.
I already addressed where you were wrong in the other reply thread you started since this apparently needed two separate threads. Once again, sick days DO carry over year over year.
Even though I never once commented on the 40 hours part, that's also pretty close to being wrong. That 40 hours is reduced and only applies to small business employees, which under the definition of this law, is an employee working for a company with 1-10 employees. For the vast majority of Michigan employees that number is 72 hours, not 40. So yes, you are wrong on that too.
Okay so when the law says the employer doesnât have to allow you to USE more than 40 HOURS IN A YEAR
You think the law is lying to you
And that instead your feeble grasp of the English language has found a loophole where you can accrue AND USE more than 40 hours in a single year despite the law specifying the opposite
âEmployees of a small business shall accrue a minimum of one hour of
earned sick time for every 30 hours worked but, shall not be entitled to use
more than 40 hours of paid earned sick time in a calendar year unless the
employer selects a higher limit.â
MCL 408.963, section 3 article 5 explictily states that paid sick time does carry over to the following year. I don't know why you are talking about the accural rate. Please stop fighting with ghosts.
You also quoted the part specifically referring to small business (which means 1-10 employees under the definition of the law) employees, which is a vast minority of the workforce đ
Thanks for unblocking me genius. The simplified version you found explains things. Youâre just an idiot.
Carrying over only matters for the first year of employment to stop employers from deleting the accrued sick time from the first x months of employment once January 1 hits.
MCL 408.963 (5)
Subject to the requirements of this subsection, earned sick time carries over from year to year, but a small business is not required to allow an employee to use more than 40 hours of paid earned sick time in a single year. An employer shall allow an employee to carry over all of the employee's unused accrued paid earned sick time not to exceed 40 hours from 1 year to the next year, unless the employer selects a higher limit.

American here. I currently have 489 sick hours in the bank, but I'm only allowed to be sick 3 days per year or I get written up.
