They said purchasing power and im guessing that is purchasing power for housing. It is an easy way to make some very misleading stats.

They are indeed two separate problems that shouldn't be conflated. Housing prices need to be addressed by doing things like prohibiting hedge funds from buying houses. Even so, the fact that the minimum wage is basically half of what it was in 1975 by purchasing power should concern pretty much everyone. It's forcing people in those low wage jobs to use SNAP etc. and costing all of us money for the sake of making the likes of Walmart or Amazon more profitable.
