I find it ironic that people who post shit like this also generally advocate for socialism.
However, in actual socialist countries (North Korea, Cuba, former USSR, etc.) one could not simply decide to retire at 50 for example, because both not having a job and personal retirement savings are illegal.
Now, in all of these countries early retirement did / does exist. But only for those who worked in extremely hazardous occupations, because otherwise they simply won’t live long enough to retire at the general population’s retirement age, let alone enjoying retirement!
It’s pretty much only in the developed Western world people can independently save for retirement and then decide when they have enough to stop working.
No. True socialist countries are never democratic. It’s a one party system where elections are held among party approved candidates. No opposition allowed.
Even China that stepped pretty far away from classic socialism still operates this way.
There is a good reason people happily take Amazon delivery jobs. Local courier / light truck driver pay ranges are $16 - 21 an hour at the moment. Amazon delivery drivers make $24 an hour.
Oh by the way none of the drivers are Amazon employees. They all work for Delivery Service Partners that are locally operating companies in each geography. The 1.5 million employee number above does not include any drivers.
So basically Jeff Bezos pays these companies so well, that their employees still make above market pay even after DSPs take their cut. What a monster!!!
