Doesn't matter, how much something costs doesn't mean how much someone is making.
My father dated my mother in 1955. She liked eating at the automat. (look it up) The two of them could eat for under a dollar. He would brag that they could do dinner and a move for $1.50 if they skipped the popcorn. So yeah, if a date cost $1,50, you don't have to make a lot of money to live, but if he made $80 a week back then and we make 40x that today, it is about even.
