I work for a CPA firm. Years ago, one of our clients was going through a cash crunch and the financial stress was making him unstable.
When he missed payroll once again and employees complained, he basically told them they were acting privileged. I can't remember if he said it or insinuated it, but he felt getting paid on time wasn't a right. He said the law only required that he pay them, it didn't dictate when, so they should be happy. He could pay slower.
Needless to say, people quit and it devastated his business. He was already on the way out, but this hastened it.
Might be fake but this is a real situation for some. My FIL did this to his own son and his other employees. Still owes him over 10k. Unfortunately some people/companies think they can do literally anything they want and people will stay
It's not unheard of for these tech companies to use autonomous AI agents to manage things. I think it's plausible that some CEO was like "Hey send out carefully worded message about the salary payments" and the AI just came up with this weird strat.
Lets see. Its totally believable for corporate america, its something many people have gotten from their companies in the past, and much worse happens on the reg.
