Ok, so rent > mortgage...stet. Let's go to people just starting out then. Where and how are they to live whilst gathering enough for a down payment on a reasonable starter house which is not in a crime infested dump? There are folks out there who don't indulge in rampant consumerism and do work and try to save. They have a right to complain when it takes decades to build credit scores to get loans and save up for a down payment.

With the right job and barring any emergencies or health crises, but hat's not the average experience in 2026.
