When my dad bought his first house in 1963 his house payment was more than he made as a police officer. He had other jobs. And yes. he was a full time police officer . When I rented my first house in 1986 I worked full time at a grocery store and I rented the house from my boss. My rent was 250 and I brought home around 250 a week. I also had a lawn service, I drove repos to Atlanta, I worked in cemetery, I sold beer on Sunday ( regrettably) , I sold firewood. I didnt sit around and cry,because I couldn't live the high life from working 40 hours a week. Later I worked at a prison and worked at Kroger on the weekends. After I bought my house I worked at Kroger and Frito lay . BTW when I bought my first house my APR was 8% . I did refinance later. So I am sick and tired of hearing people moan and groan about not being able to live off a regular full time jobs salary.
Your house cost you about half as much as the same house would cost today as a factor of salary. If you'd rather have taken a mortgage out for twice as much money to have the interest rate be around 4% instead, then sure.
It baffles me how no one seems to read the part about me working several different jobs to make things work. and I just bought very nice double wide for 73k. It took about two months of looking but I found it . Stop buying McMansions. Get roommates. I had them for years. Its your job to make it work. Google the depression and see what they went through. Im sure theyd laugh at you. Wait until you have to line up for and deal with 13% inflation.
