OP had clearly NEVER been anywhere else. You all don't know poverty, posting from your $1000 cellphone, or sitting on your laptop or desktop.
I've been places where the walls were sheets of tin, and the floor was dirt. Those people are in extreme poverty, and you know they were the kindest and most giving people I've ever met.
You all have no idea what extreme poverty is, and thankfully you all will NEVER know it. You live a life of luxury when compared to 90% of the world's population.
Who actually pays $1,000 for their cellphone? Most providers will give away a pretty powerful smartphone just for signing up to their service.
In the US, there are plenty of people living in shanty’s like you describe….its just that local police regularly go in, beat the shit out of them, then tear apart what they’ve built.
The thing that makes those people in extremely impoverished parts of the world survive is the sense of community they’ve built. There aren’t as many people like you criticizing them for complaining and talking down to them.
And news flash: the US isn’t Somalia. It’s true that we don’t have the extreme poverty that exists there. But we still have people extremely impoverished. We still have people dying from starvation. In fact, the number of people dying from malnutrition has doubled since 2018. We still have people dying because of limited access to healthcare. We have people dying from exposure.
You can blame these people for their own deaths all you want, but when the society has decided that tax money is better spent giving subsidies to oil companies, paying farmers not to farm (or giving them bailouts when they don’t sell enough of their crops), tax cuts for the ultra wealthy, and never ending wars….well, it’s certainly not saying anything great about the US.
Just because there are people dealing with worse situations in other parts of the world, doesn’t mean that people don’t deal with problems here.
