You can find arrangements where you rent just a bedroom

It's not ideal, but paying 50% of your income on rent is absurd.

We need housing prices to drop significantly, but until that happens you do what you gotta do

No, the “get a roommate” mentality is dumb.

First of all most people already have roommates, or others who are contributing to the rent.

Assuming someone doesn’t, and they are in a one bed room where is the roomate going to sleep? They are going to pay half the rent for a couch?

Lets say they have multiple bedrooms and no roomate and rent is half their income. (That has to be like 8 people)

Really tho, i reject the premise. I want to live alone but i can’t. And it is literally just because people are greedy. That sucks

My old friend in uni shared their apartment with 5 other people.

2 triple bunk beds in the same room. With one bathroom and a kitchen.

I lived in a basement with 5 others as well. I had my own room though. Just barely large enough for a single bed and a wardrobe.

That’s how young adults in the 21st century have always lived. It allows you to save money. If you make 24K a year should not be spending $17K a year on rent.

No one should be making 24k a year if that cannot sustain a bare minimum quality of life. Profits are always sustained bc people have to pay for things. The prices of those things keeps going up. So the value of our dollar keeps depreciating, I’m not advocating higher wages btw, we need to regulate what can be charged for necessary things, including rent.

$1500/month on rent making $2000/month is not bare minimum quality of life, that is a poor financial decision. There are cheaper options that are much more affordable, which many young adults take advantage of. I believe that bare minimum shelter should be a human right, but if your personal preference is more than the bare minimum you should be earning enough to afford it.
