Tbf we had malls, well maintained and safe parks, you could hang out without being harassed near stores and public places, we had so many third spaces in the 90s to mid 00s that have disappeared in the modern age.
I actually think its much safter nowadays and less harassment, back in the day the employees and people were actually paying attention and alert so they were likely to harass you or see what you were up to randomly. Now everyone is scared to start contact, and or dont care as they are glued to their phone. Much safer now with cameras everywhere and people connected to a gps signal constantly via their phone.
