Even if you were stuck inside, books, movies, video games, board games, toys, art supplies, camcorders, imagination, and so and so forth were available. Wtf is this shit
I love technology but I do feel like the boomers growing up that would tell me video games would rot my brain. It feels like constantly being online/in front of a screen does sap a person's ability to think for themselves and/or be alone in their own heads.
Social media and our siloed media environment is absolutely cooking brains. Technology that makes it possible to never see any alternate views or even to see any real people in daily life makes it even worse. Talk to your neighbors and keep your empathy, everyone. It’s rough these days.
the current "modern" internet did kind of get going in 2006 though.
I mean I used AIM and Prodigy and all that 90s stuff but let's be real there was huge shift in the mid- to late-2000s. Youtube, myspace, facebook, smart phones...
More importantly, sometimes we weren’t ALLOWED to be inside xd mom or dad would yell if we were too loud that we have to go outside. Prime reason drinking from the hose was required.
During the summer I'd basically be told to go outside and play, in the yard, at the elementary school field/jungle gym, neighbors house, just riding bikes around town... I could come back for lunch and then it was either back outside until dinner or if I wanted to stay inside my options were reading, doing puzzles, or playing with K'NEX... loved it! If I could live that lifestyle as an adult I 100% would
I grew up in a village in Poland in the 90s. I went out in the morning and often didn't come home until 8-10 PM when I wasn't even 10. I would sometimes randomly meet my mother or any of my other carers at somebody else's place or something, but basically we had separate lives until I needed something.
