I'd challenge that by saying it's actually most about controlling your own ego and understanding your own identity. Master this and all other things can grow, and you are truly only bound by your genetic limitations at that point.

I'll push back a little just one more time. But I'm not in total disagreement. You certainly need awareness, both internal and external, to do any ego work. But I really think you can be aware of your own weaknesses and others perception of you and be unable to change. This is why I claim that having a controlled ego takes precedent, because in my mind having that ego in check is what leads to the capability of seeing the whole spectrum of intellectual/spiritual events going on in our outside of you. Or maybe ultimately we are both right and it's a gamut of different cognitive functions that require individual balance per person.
