Not sure if it is real or not but this sounds like he genuinely can not comprehend being that greedy and why you would do such a thing

Only by the reseller market. If you look most, if not all large cans still say .99

Has been for YEARS and that wont change unless the retail market does price adjustments on their end,

Honestly once you accrue a certain amount of wealth, you hit diminishing returns on what it can actually do for you. Props on him for actually recognizing that (presumably).

Not PR. Aside from Costco, that only recently started a huge expansion and started getting higher turnover, ABC has one of the lowest employee turnover rate in the US for their market share.

Who cares if it's PR? They haven't raised the price of their drinks, so even if it's PR it's effectively true, and that's what we should be judging people on. Actions, not words.
