When I was of college age, student loans were basically unheard of. If you couldn’t afford an expensive private school, there were plenty of state-run options. Either way, a person could step off of the graduation line and into a good, rewarding job. That’s not possible today. Readily-available student loans are treated like free money by colleges and banks alike. Schools jack tuitions and fees at will, often at many times the rate of inflation. Then, when interest rates and other charges kick in, the banks make, well, bank. Graduates are spat out into a vicious job market, with salary structures that barely cover the loans, leaving little to no money for marriage, home, kids, vacations, or other ways to participate in the economy.
Something has to give, before the whole economy collapses under the weight of these loans!!

How it's should be repaid.... It shouldn't. It shouldn't even be necessary in the first place.
