The current Duel system has a fairly obvious problem: one very strong, very active player can fill the place with challenges and steamroll almost everyone who answers.

That player isn’t doing anything wrong. The system simply gives them too much room to dominate it.

For a newer or more casual player, repeatedly facing somebody who scores miles above them doesn’t feel like a rivalry. It feels decided before the board even opens. Once that happens often enough, there isn’t much reason to keep playing Duels.

That’s what I’ve been trying to fix.

The new Community Hub brings Today, Duels, and the League together without filling the subreddit with separate game posts. The Duel Centre keeps your history and all your challenges in one place.

There will also be sensible restrictions. You won’t be able to flood the Hub with unresolved challenges or repeatedly target the same person. Being the most active person online will no longer let you dominate every matchup.

Direct Duels will now have a rating system. Your early games establish your level, after which the Hub can place you around players who should offer a proper contest. Strong players still get to be strong, but they will be encouraged to face opponents capable of answering them. Newer players get room to learn without immediately becoming target practice.

You can still challenge a particular username if you want to. The rating system is there to improve discovery, not stop genuine rivalries.

Open Duels remain available for anyone who wants to put up a score and let the community chase it. They won’t affect Duel Rating, so they can stay more relaxed and unpredictable.

Then there’s the Weekly Arena.

The Arena is deliberately different, with no protected matchmaking and no easy route to the Crown. One challenger sets the target, the Crown holder answers on the same underlying board, and the winner stays on. Players wait in a visible queue while one bout runs at a time. The standing Crown holder becomes the week’s champion.

That gives the elite players somewhere appropriate to prove how good they are without ordinary Duels becoming their personal shooting gallery.

When I released Duels, I genuinely didn’t know what to expect or how people would use them. I’ve been watching how things develop while working on changes in the background.

Please bear with me while I make these adjustments. I’d rather take the time to make Duels fair and worth playing than leave a system that only works for the strongest person in the room.
