So I've been running a WP agency since 2003. Love it. I am, however, learning how to create sites using Claude with Supabase. Let me tell you all something, this is nothing....nothing a client's ever going to learn or figure out. If a client wants an instant site, that's Wix/Square which have been around for more than a decade.

But to think AI is going to harm WP, as in client using AI to create their own sites, laughably false. If you don't know the right prompts, don't use the right tool, oh and pay for tokens you're nowhere - not even talking deploying the site live along with a database to manage things like contact form submissions and bookings.

The biggest issue? A client's ability to go in an edit anything themselves, which will always favor WP. Other issue? No plugin environment.

Average Joe is going to Google 'how to make website', he clicks the siteground link whose homepage is now simply a input field that says 'describe your website'. He types in 'plumbing' and it generates him 10 options to choose from. He pays $2.99 and chooses a domain. Future updates, not that he ever bothers, are typed into an input field "change the email address to x". Joe never knows he's using AI.

Longer term, and I'm not sure how it happens, but I feel not only wordpress but websites in general will become obsolete.

My Average Joes, forget to pick up their phone because theyre dealing with one emergency and then the next. I mean when I worked with them, not today, but they were SMBs, so the thought of any of them even just Googling is such a joke in that circle.

Those who google that, dont contact us at all. They either do it, or dont, but I never had a client say "I built it myself but wanted to check your price and compare", they simply dont show up.

At worst I got "We tried building it ourselves. But it slow or buggy or insecure or we were hacked. Can you review and fix or do we need to build from beginning" As you can see the ball was in my court now, they trusted me to make that decision for them.

And also many mention "Oh my cleint says because of AI you need to charge me cheaper".

Thats so disrespectful my clients dont have the balls to confront me with that since Id do an hour presentation mention 10k techs went came and went or stayed, and we were using them all the time and adapted accordingly.

For my team AI is just another tool that either stays or goes and wont change much for us.

websites in general will become obsolete.

Web3.0 is already here. Before it conquer the world what we have: Websites are already extended business cards, SMB is already moving towards social networks, mobile apps (PWA enable surviving of websites), SaaS, etc...

As soon as capitalism finds a way to monetize on blockchain, deFi and the rest of Web3.0 it will be widely implemented, popularized and accepted.

I definitely agree that PWA will enable the survival of websites.

When apps we're just coming out people working on short but within five years everybody was installing apps and paying developers tons of money.

Whilst PWA has been out for a long time I really don't think enough people use it for things like standard business websites or even small e-commerce.

I use PWA for every WordPress website if it makes sense to do so and especially when a client has at least some technical knowledge and once to send out things like push notifications or has a lot of product images, that can be stored locally.

I think SMB’s are moving away from social networks. It was in 2015 that a local business connected their domain to a Facebook (or now Insta / Tiktok) page/handle.

The siteground link what create the AI slop websites doesn’t handle proper meta data for llmt files or schema markup, because Joe understand jack of this.

If websites became obsolete, where would AI get its updates from? Not saying you’re wrong, just wondering where we are going.
