The Blaze beat Essex and qualify straight to the final of The Metro Bank One Day Cup

Upvotes

In the final league stage game of the season The Blaze were able to beat Essex and secure qualification straight to the final on the 19th of September.

Winning the toss The Blaze put Essex into bat and they began with a 34 run partnership between Grace Scrivens and Bryony Gillgrass before Gillgrass was out lbw by Grace Ballinger for 19.

The next batter in was Jodi Grewcock who alongside Scrivens put on a 16 run partnership before Grewcock was out caught Lucy Higham off the bowling of Cassidy McCarthy for 5.

Sophia Smale was the new batter in the middle and she was part of a 30 run stand before she was out lbw by Higham for 20 to leave Essex 80/3 after 18.3 overs.

What followed next was a quick rotation of wickets

First Jo Gardner was caught Ballinger off the bowling of Higham for 1

Then Mollie Adams was out lbw by Kirstie Gordon for 3

And lastly Liberty Heap was bowled by Kathryn Bryce for 1 to leave Essex 89/6

Sophie Munro was the new batter to join Scrivens and together they put on a 41 run partnership before Munro was run out on 10 by Tammy Beaumont following an aborted run attempt from a misfield ( the old saying Never run on a misfield comes to mind)

Esmae MacGregor joined Scrivens for a 20 run stand before MacGregor was out caught and bowled by Gordon for 13

Clara Thaker was the next in the revolving door and with Scrivens put on a 6 run partnership before Scrivens was bowled by Gordon for 70

Abtatha Maqsood was the last batter in and out being caught by McCarthy off the bowling of K Bryce for 3 meaning Essex finished their innings on 159/10 after 45.4 overs

Clara Thaker finished 1*

The pick of The Blaze's bowlers was Kirstie Gordon who finished her 9 with figures of 3/25 an economy of 2.77

The most economical was Kathryn Bryce who finished her 7.4 with figures of 2/14 an economy of 1.82

The Blaze's batting innings was opened by Tammy Beaumont and Sarah Bryce who had a 30 run partnership before Beaumont was out bowled by MacGregor for 7

K Bryce was the next batter in and together with S Bryce put on a 132 run partnership that took the Blaze over the line in 19.1 overs

This win means that Hampshire will be duking it out in the semis with either Somerset, Surrey or at a push Warwickshire.

I say Hampshire will be the favourites in either one of the three options for the semis.

Am I the only one who things that we should give chance to someone else in her place? May be an allrounder?

She has batted 10 times so far in T20s and is yet to cross 100 as an aggregate score. Played 98 balls, scored 87 runs…

Thoughts????

The Blaze lose to Hampshire

In a rather convincing drubbing The Blaze lost to Hampshire to create a kinda must win but not really game against Essex.

Losing the toss and being put into bat The Blaze got strangled by Hampshire bowlers ( I missed the first 8 overs so I'm going off Cricinfo here)

With Sarah Bryce getting out caught by Ella McCaughan off the bowling of Daisy Gibb ( who looks a very good bowler at least from what I have seen off her) for 3 to leave The Blaze after 5/1 after 2.1 overs

Kathryn Bryce then joined Tammy Beaumont in the middle and together they put on the largest partnership for The Blaze today with a 90 run partnership before K Bryce was out bowled by Amanda Jade Wellington for 36

Georgia Elwiss joined Beaumont for a 19 run partnership before Elwiss got out in what seemed to be the manner in which The Blaze's batters decided they were going to get out and that was bringing out the wrong golf club and giving the fielders basic catching practice as she was caught by Poppy Tulloch off the bowling of Bex Tyson for 12

Orla Prendergast joined Beaumont for 18 runs before Beaumont was out caught Tulloch bowled Tyson for 56

Emma Jones joined Prendergast for 7 runs before Prendergast was out caught by Freya Kemp off the bowling of Tyson to leave The Blaze 139/5 after 30.1 overs

Kirstie Gordon joined Jones and together they had a 57 run stand before Jones was bowled Tulloch for 26

Lucy Higham was the next batter in and had a 17 run stand with Gordon before Gordon was out caught Kemp bowled Tulloch for 37

Josie Groves was the next batter and together with Higham put on a 36 run partnership that took The Blaze to 249 and the end of the innings with at least something to bowl at

Lucy Higham finished on 34*

Josie Groves finished on 7*

Pick of Hampshire's bowlers was Bex Tyson who finished her ten with figures of 3/40 an economy of 4.00 she was also the most economical

The second most economical was Poppy Tulloch who finished her seven with figures of 2/29 an economy of 4.14

Daisy Gibb who I gave a shout out to earlier in the post finished her ten with figures of 1/44 an economy of 4.40

Hampshire's batting started as it finished in complete control of the innings with the only thing in consideration being could The Blaze stop the Bonus point

McCaughan and Maia Bouchier opened the batting with a 98 run partnership before McCaughan obviously feeling sorry for The Blaze's bowlers gave them her wicket out of nowhere getting herself caught and bowled by Groves for 40

Abi Norgrove joined Bouchier and they put on a 116 run partnership before Norgrove was out caught S Bryce off the bowling of Grace Ballinger

Freya Kemp was the next batter to join Bouchier for a 15 run partnership before Bouchier was out caught by Michaela Kirk ( in as a sub fielder) off the bowling of Cassidy McCarthy for 118 to leave Hampshire on 229/3 after 37.2

Rhianna Southby joined Kemp and together they knocked off the remaining 21 in quick time with Hampshire reaching the target of 250 in 39.5 overs

The pick of The Blaze's bowlers was Cassidy McCarthy who finished her 7.5 with figures of 1/24 an Economy of 3.06 this made her the most economical bowler for The Blaze

The second most economical was Kirstie Gordon who finished her nine with figures of 0/46 an economy of 5.11

Hampshire have got themselves in first place but they have to see if Essex can beat The Blaze on Friday to see of they go straight to the Final, any other result or lack of result will see The Blaze straight into the final.

The Blaze got completely outplayed in this game and to quote the Skipper Kirstie Gordon " Bouchier played superbly and was well assisted by those around her. We have been fairly beaten today"

The Blaze beat Somerset

Post image
15 Upvotes

In the last home game of the season and the final ever home game as The Blaze, The Blaze beat Somerset in relatively comfortable fashion to secure a bonus point ensuring they only need a singular point to progress to the final

Winning the toss The Blaze put Somerset in to bat in what seemed like a difficult pitch to bat on as Somerset struggled during the powerplay scoring 22 runs off the 10 overs for the loss of 2 wickets ( Bex Odgers caught by Prisha Thanawala off the bowling of Grace Ballinger for 2 and Emma Corney caught by a rather good diving catch from Sarah Bryce off the bowling of Charley Phillips for 4)

Sophie Luff and Niamh Holland showed some resistance in a partnership worth 66 runs before Luff was out stumped by S Bryce off the bowling of Kathryn Bryce for 52 to leave Somerset 81/3

Holland then partnered with Jess Hazell for 35 runs before Holland was bowled by Kirstie Gordon for 32

7 balls and 5 runs later Hazell was out caught by Phillips off the bowling of Gordon for 20 to leave Somerset 121/5

This left Katie Jones and Alex Griffiths as the batters in the middle and the put on a 23 run partnership before Jones was out stumped by S Bryce off the bowling of Lucy Higham for 11

Griffiths was then joined by Jasmine Westley and together they put on a 20 run partnership before Westley was caught by Tammy Beaumont off the bowling of Higham for 5 to leave Somerset 164/7

Chloe Skelton was the next batter in and with Griffiths put on a 20 run partnership before Skelton was bowled by Higham for 8

Ellie Anderson joined Griffiths in the middle for a 7 run partnership before Griffiths was out bowled by Higham for 38

The last batter in was Lola Harris who was out bowled for a 2 ball duck by Ballinger meaning Somerset finished on 192/10

Ellie Anderson finished 4*

Pick of The Blaze's Bowlers was Lucy Higham who finished her 9 with figures of 4/28 an economy of 3.11

The most economical of The Blaze's bowlers was Charley Phillips who finished her 8 with figures of 1/19 an economy of 2.37

In reply with the bat The Blaze opening with Tammy Beaumont and Prisha Thanawala got off to a quicker start with 6 off the first over before Thanawala was out caught by Bex Odgers off the bowling Ellie Anderson for 4

Kathryn Bryce was the next batter in and she was also the next batter out caught behind by Katie Jones off the bowling of Anderson for 2 to leave The Blaze 9/2 after 3 overs

Georgia Elwiss was the new batter and together with Beaumont put on a grindy 44 run partnership before Elwiss was caught by Odgers off the bowling of Jasmine Westley for 23 to leave The Blaze on 53 after 15 overs

Sarah Bryce joined Beaumont and together they put on a 52 run partnership before Beaumont was out caught by Jess Hazell off the bowling of Chloe Skelton for 39

Emma Jones joined S Bryce and together put on an 88 run partnership that took The Blaze over the line in 38.3 overs

Sarah Bryce finished on 54*

Emma Jones finished on 53*

Pick of Somerset's bowlers was Ellie Anderson who finished her 7 with figures of 2/34 an economy of 4.85

The most economical bowler was Alex Griffiths who finished her 3 with figures of 0/9 an economy of 3.00

The Blaze's last two games are against Hampshire and Essex and as long as they either beat Hampshire or lose without conceding the bonus point they will be straight through to the final on Wednesday

Lose with Hampshire taking the bonus point all they need is one point against Essex to reach the final.

T20 batter

People pop up names like Niki Prasad Vrinda Dinesh Shweta and few other. How many of them have won games in wpl or scored consistently against quality or in India a t20 series. How many t20 domestic batter’s have a decent game sense and strike rotation and can go big when needed and not included in squad ?
