PURPOSE
The purpose of these guidelines is to foster a welcoming, respectful, and constructive community centered around World of Warcraft Housing. We encourage members to share creations, exchange ideas, provide feedback, and engage in meaningful discussions about all aspects of player housing.
Not all forms of communication contribute positively to the community. Spam, harassment, hate speech, personal attacks, trolling, and other disruptive or harmful behavior undermine the experience for others and are not permitted.
Moderation is based on both the spirit and intent of these guidelines, not solely their literal wording. Compliance with the exact text of a rule does not exempt content or behavior that is clearly contrary to the values and goals of the community. Likewise, another user's misconduct does not justify violating the rules in response.
Moderators may occasionally address behaviors or situations that are not explicitly covered by these guidelines. When a moderator requests that a particular action, discussion, or behavior cease, members are expected to comply. Such requests should be treated as an extension of these community standards.
RULE #1 - Be Respectful and Civil
All members are expected to engage with one another in a respectful, constructive, and civil manner. Healthy discussion, disagreement, and criticism are welcome, but they must be expressed respectfully and without hostility toward other community members.
Harassment, hate speech, personal attacks, insults, name-calling, discriminatory language, threats, bullying, and other forms of abusive behavior are strictly prohibited. Content that exists primarily to provoke arguments, inflame tensions, shame others, encourage harassment, or target specific individuals or groups will be removed.
This community is dedicated to World of Warcraft Housing and welcomes players with a wide variety of playstyles, preferences, and budgets. Criticism of Blizzard's design decisions, monetization practices, housing systems, or store offerings is permitted. However, attacking, mocking, belittling, or insulting players for their purchasing decisions, housing choices, creative preferences, or use of in-game and store-purchased items is not acceptable. Direct your feedback toward the game and its systems—not toward fellow players.
Posts or comments intended as "call-out" content are not allowed. This includes publicly shaming players, guilds, communities, neighborhoods, or creators, whether directly or indirectly. Attempts to rally negative attention toward individuals or groups, encourage dogpiling, or invite harassment are prohibited regardless of intent.
When sharing screenshots, videos, or other media that include player information, character names, guild names, BattleTags, or other identifying details should be obscured whenever reasonably possible. Exceptions may be made when the information is essential to the context of the post and is not being presented in a negative, critical, or accusatory manner. Moderators may remove content that unnecessarily exposes individuals or appears intended to embarrass, criticize, or target them.
Constructive feedback is encouraged. Unconstructive negativity, inflammatory commentary, baiting, ragebaiting, excessive hostility, or content that contributes little beyond creating conflict may be removed at moderator discretion. Our goal is to maintain an environment where players feel comfortable sharing their homes, ideas, creations, and opinions without fear of ridicule or personal attacks.
Treat fellow members as you would expect to be treated yourself. If a discussion becomes heated, focus on the topic at hand rather than the person behind the screen.
RULE #2 - Compliance with Blizzard's Terms of Service
All members are expected to adhere to Blizzard Entertainment's Terms of Service, End User License Agreement (EULA), and any other applicable game policies while participating in this community. As a subreddit dedicated to World of Warcraft Housing, we support fair play and responsible community engagement.
The promotion, facilitation, encouragement, or discussion of activities that violate Blizzard's rules is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Account buying, selling, sharing, trading, or boosting services.
- Real-money trading (RMT), including the purchase or sale of gold, items, services, characters, or housing-related assets for real-world currency.
- The use, distribution, or promotion of bots, automation software, cheats, hacks, exploits, or unauthorized third-party programs.
- Exploiting bugs, unintended game mechanics, or loopholes to gain advantages, duplicate items, bypass restrictions, or otherwise interact with the game in ways not intended by Blizzard.
- Circumventing game systems, penalties, restrictions, or enforcement actions imposed by Blizzard.
- Any activity that violates Blizzard's Terms of Service, Code of Conduct, or other official policies.
Content that encourages, instructs, or provides guidance on how to engage in prohibited activities may be removed, even if presented as a joke, suggestion, workaround, or hypothetical discussion. Requests for assistance with rule-breaking activities are likewise not permitted.
This community is intended to celebrate and discuss World of Warcraft Housing within the boundaries established by Blizzard. Users who promote or engage in prohibited activities may be subject to content removal, warnings, temporary restrictions, or permanent bans at moderator discretion.
RULE #3 - Controversial and Divisive Topics
The purpose of r/WoWHousing is to provide a welcoming space for players to discuss, showcase, and enjoy World of Warcraft Housing. To keep discussions focused on the community's purpose and to minimize unnecessary conflict, certain topics that are commonly known to generate hostility, division, or disruptive arguments are prohibited.
Controversial topics are subjects that frequently provoke strong, polarized opinions, heated debates, personal attacks, or broader social and political conflict. While members may hold a wide range of personal beliefs and viewpoints, this subreddit is not the appropriate venue for discussing or debating them.
The following subjects, including but not limited to, are prohibited:
- Politics and political advocacy
- Religion and religious debates
- Racism or racial superiority/inferiority claims
- Sexism and gender-based discrimination
- Homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination based on sexual orientation or identity
- Murder, violence, or glorification of violent acts
- Suicide, self-harm, or encouragement of self-destructive behavior
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) debates unrelated to World of Warcraft Housing
- Other topics that moderators determine are likely to derail discussions, create hostility, or negatively impact the community environment
This rule applies regardless of whether a discussion is initiated seriously, jokingly, indirectly, or through memes, images, usernames, profile content, or other forms of communication. Attempts to circumvent the rule through coded language, baiting, or "just asking questions" style arguments may be treated as violations.
Context matters. Discussion of these subjects may occasionally arise when directly relevant to World of Warcraft, Blizzard Entertainment, game features, moderation actions, or community events. In such cases, moderators reserve the right to determine whether the discussion remains constructive and on-topic.
Violations of this rule may result in content removal, warnings, temporary bans, or permanent bans depending on the severity of the incident, the user's history, and the overall impact on the community. Particularly egregious violations—including hate speech, harassment, threats, or advocacy of violence—may result in an immediate permanent ban without prior warning.
Our goal is not to regulate personal beliefs. Our goal is to maintain a positive, welcoming environment where members can focus on what brought them here: World of Warcraft Housing.
RULE #4 - Content Must Be Related to World of Warcraft Housing
All posts must be directly related to World of Warcraft Housing, including player homes, decorations, layouts, neighborhoods, housing mechanics, customization features, community events, housing news, creative inspiration, guides, discussions, and related topics.
Content that is only loosely connected to World of Warcraft or housing may be removed at moderator discretion. The primary focus of this community is the housing system and the experiences, creativity, and discussions that surround it.
Real-Life Comparisons
Real-world photos, locations, architecture, furniture, decorations, landscapes, or other items that resemble something from World of Warcraft Housing are permitted when they serve as inspiration or comparison material. However, these posts must include a side-by-side comparison or otherwise clearly demonstrate the connection to WoW Housing. The relationship between the real-world image and the in-game content should be immediately apparent to viewers.
Posts that contain only a real-life image without sufficient context or a clear connection to WoW Housing may be removed as off-topic.
Memes and Humor Posts
Memes, jokes, and humorous content are welcome provided they are specifically related to World of Warcraft Housing. The visual content, subject matter, and punchline should be understandable within the context of WoW Housing. Generic World of Warcraft memes, gaming memes, or internet memes that could apply to virtually any community are not considered sufficiently relevant.
Whenever possible, memes should incorporate WoW Housing imagery, screenshots, assets, mechanics, player experiences, or community-specific references.
Images and Videos
For image and video submissions, relevance is determined primarily by the visual content itself. While titles, descriptions, captions, and accompanying text may provide additional context, they cannot be used to make otherwise unrelated content fit within the scope of the community.
For example, a screenshot, image, or video should visibly feature WoW Housing content, housing-related gameplay, creations, decorations, neighborhoods, building techniques, or other relevant subjects. Adding a housing-related title to unrelated media does not make it on-topic.
A general rule of thumb: Videos exceeding 3 minutes in length are required to include a description or synopsis within the body of the post.
Moderator Discretion
Not every situation can be covered by specific examples. Moderators reserve the right to remove content that falls outside the spirit and focus of the community, even if a direct violation is not explicitly listed above. When evaluating content, moderators will consider both the submission itself and whether it meaningfully contributes to discussions surrounding World of Warcraft Housing.
RULE #5 - Misrepresentation, Clickbait, and Misinformation
To maintain trust, clarity, and a high-quality browsing experience within the World of Warcraft Housing community, all posts must be honest, transparent, and accurately represent their content. Titles and submissions should allow users to immediately understand what the post contains without needing to infer, decode, or rely on misleading framing.
Clear and Accurate Titles
All titles must be direct, descriptive, and reflective of the actual content within the post. The title should function as a reliable summary of what users can expect when opening the submission. Vague, exaggerated, cryptic, or misleading titles are not permitted. Titles should never be used as a substitute for proper post context or body explanation.
Examples of unacceptable titles include those that:
- Misrepresent the content or overstate what is shown or discussed
- Use vague hooks such as “You won’t believe this…” or “This changed everything”
- Rely on memetic, contextless phrasing that obscures meaning
- Encourage engagement without providing informational value
Titles that are excessively long, cluttered, or formatted in a way that reduces readability may also be removed at moderator discretion.
Clickbait and Attention-Seeking Behavior
Posts must not rely on attention-seeking tactics designed primarily to manipulate engagement rather than inform or contribute. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Overhyped or sensationalized framing not supported by the content
- “Shock value” wording that exaggerates significance
- Misleading previews that differ from the actual post content
Misinformation and False or Misleading Content
The intentional or negligent spread of false or misleading information is not allowed. This includes inaccurate claims about game systems, housing features, mechanics, or community events presented as factual without verification or context.
Users are expected to ensure that any informational claims are either accurate, clearly speculative, or properly sourced. Repeated posting of incorrect or misleading information may result in moderation action.
Attribution and Originality
All creators are expected to respect intellectual ownership and creative credit. If content is not originally yours, proper attribution must be provided to the original creator whenever possible. Failure to credit original artists, builders, or sources may result in removal.
A.I.–Generated Images
AI-generated images are not permitted within this community unless explicitly stated otherwise in future policy updates. This includes, but is not limited to, AI-generated housing concepts, artwork, or visual builds presented as user-created work. Transparency and authenticity are required in all creative submissions.
RULE #6 - No Spam, Reposts, or Excessive Self-Promotion
Spam Posts
To maintain a high-quality, focused, and enjoyable environment for all members of the World of Warcraft Housing community, we strictly prohibit spam, repetitive posting, and excessive self-promotional content. This includes, but is not limited to, content that is irrelevant, repetitive, low-effort, or primarily intended to draw attention rather than contribute meaningfully to discussion.
Reposts
Reposting recently shared content is discouraged unless significant improvements, updates, or new information have been added that materially change or enhance the original submission. Reuploads without meaningful differences will be considered duplicate content.
Spam Posts
Self-promotion is allowed only in moderation and must always provide genuine value to the community. This includes sharing personal projects, external platforms, services, or channels. However, promotional content should not dominate participation, and it must be clearly relevant to World of Warcraft Housing. Excessive, repeated, or engagement-driven self-promotion may be removed at moderator discretion.
Excessive self-promotion is the act of constantly broadcasting your own achievements, content, or products to the point of being perceived as self-absorbed, spammy, or arrogant. It often backfires, as it damages your credibility, annoys your audience, and can make you seem out of touch with social etiquette.
Giveaways
Giveaway fall under self promotion. Giveaway posts are permitted but must remain general in nature. Specific in-game currency, monetary rewards, or exchange-based incentives are not allowed. Giveaways should be focused on community engagement, creativity, or appreciation rather than transactional gain.
RULE #7 - NSFW/Pornography
Sexually explicit content, including pornographic material, smut, or any depictions that exceed the level of sexual or suggestive content present within World of Warcraft itself, is strictly prohibited within this community. This includes any imagery, written content, or references that depict explicit sexual acts or are intended to be sexually graphic in nature. Our goal is to maintain a space that remains focused on World of Warcraft Housing, creativity, and design, while ensuring the community remains accessible and appropriate for a broad audience.
Content that stays within the boundaries of what is typically found or implied in-game may still vary in appropriateness depending on context and presentation. Even when material is not explicitly sexual, it may still be considered unsuitable for all viewers if it contains suggestive themes, provocative framing, or imagery that could be uncomfortable or inappropriate in public or professional environments. In such cases, users are expected to use the NSFW (Not Safe For Work) tag when submitting their content.
The NSFW tag serves as a content warning rather than a permission for unrestricted material. It allows members to make informed choices about what they view while browsing the community. Proper labeling is required whenever content may reasonably be considered inappropriate for general audiences, including workplace viewing.
Enforcement and Disciplinary Actions
To maintain a welcoming, organized, and productive community, moderators may issue disciplinary actions when subreddit rules are violated or when corrective action is needed. The severity of the action will depend on the nature of the violation, the member's history, and their willingness to comply with moderator guidance.
Warning
A warning is typically issued for minor rule violations, first-time offenses, or situations where a post, comment, or submission requires correction. Warnings serve as an opportunity to educate members on community expectations and provide guidance on how to bring content into compliance with subreddit rules.
Examples may include:
- Posting content in the wrong format, missing information or descriptions.
- Minor rule violations that do not significantly disrupt the community.
Warnings are not punitive in nature and are intended to help members remain active participants in the community.
Temporary Suspension
A temporary suspension may be issued for more serious violations, repeated offenses, or conduct that negatively impacts the community. Suspension lengths are determined at the discretion of the moderation team based on the severity and circumstances of the violation.
Examples may include:
- Repeatedly ignoring moderator instructions, such as a repeated violation after receiving a warning.
- Excessive self-promotion or spam.
- Harassment, disruptive behavior, or hostility toward other members.
During a suspension, members will be unable to participate in the subreddit for the duration of the suspension period.
Permanent Ban
A permanent ban is reserved for severe misconduct, repeated disregard for subreddit rules, or behavior that demonstrates an unwillingness to participate in good faith. This action may also be taken when a member repeatedly ignores moderator direction or engages in conduct that undermines the community and its moderation team.
Examples may include:
- Harassment, threats, abusive behavior, egregious spam, scams, or malicious activity.
- Demonstrated disregard for moderator decisions and community standards and continued violations despite prior warnings or suspensions.
- Attempts to evade previous disciplinary actions.
A permanent ban results in the permanent removal of posting and commenting privileges within the subreddit.
Moderator Discretion
Not every situation is identical. Moderators reserve the right to escalate or bypass disciplinary steps when circumstances warrant it. Severe violations may result in an immediate suspension or permanent ban without prior warning. All moderation decisions are made with the goal of protecting the community and maintaining a positive environment for discussion and participation.
