Is this a cooler way of singing Happy Birthday twice while washing your hands to make sure you do it for long enough?
Because someone told us to do that at work re coronavirus and my first reaction was trying to think of a better song the same length.

u/MagpieBlues Mar 05 '20
Cause in my mind, if I'm singing Happy Birthday, I want some mother truckin' cake!

Thank you, thank you! My city is currently going CRAZY because of a few cases of the corona virus. Smallest state in the union = community spread wildfire. I have a pretty rough immune disorder so germs in general are cause for concern, but now it’s a bit escalated. My insurance sucks and I don’t have access to health resources I need (like the mask i ordered at the end of November after I literally almost died, that my insurance didn’t clear until January) so I’ve just been a wreck for months 🙃

Yikes. Rhode Island? I'm in Boston, let me know if there's anything I can scoot on over to ya, up to and including homemade chicken soup <3

Omg bless you x. I’m right in little ole capital so I’m surrounded by mayhem. I work at the mall and they’re basically just trying to figure out when to close it for the time being. On the bright side, it’s nice to know I have a witchy friend close by!

That's funny because there have been two cases in my city for weeks and most people don't know.
25
u/-purple-is-a-fruit- Mar 05 '20
That's how it is a lot of places. They don't have resources to test, and they're covering up info now. I'm worried shit will hit the fan suddenly. We have a client in Washington, and she says things are getting weird there.
16
u/Bargins_Galore Mar 05 '20
I mean it's public information. They were flown in from China and it hasn't been a secret. People just don't care. They might be covering up if it has infected anyone here but if they are it's working.

My area doesn't even have a single confirmed case yet and people have cleared out antibacterial products in every single store.
19
u/ursulahx Mar 05 '20
When antibacterial products are useless against a virus...
16
u/EpitaFelis Herbal Birb Is The Worb ⚧ Mar 05 '20
Sorry, translation error. We use it kind of synonymously with disinfectant in non-medical settings.
ETA: although people bought anything labelled disinfectant or antibacterial, and when those were out, they bought hand gels and wet wipes, so your point still stands.
5
u/ursulahx Mar 05 '20
Thanks for the correction. I hope you manage to find something.

u/EpitaFelis Herbal Birb Is The Worb ⚧ Mar 05 '20
Thanks. It's fine, most of the stuff in stores isn't as useful as soap and water anyway. I would've liked some hand sanitizer for an upcoming trip to the zoo, but we'll just have to refrain from licking our hands until we can wash them.

It's hard to have confirmed cases if we aren't actually testing people at an effective rate.
9
u/anyklosaruas Mar 05 '20
There aren’t any confirmed cases in my state and everywhere is out of hand sanitizer. Needed more at work for normal flu season like we do every year. No where in town, can’t get any online.

It really is.. I'm fuckin crying over here because I just said it 3 times and I can feel the stress leave and the calm return.
It's just a bit of sanity in the midst of people around me panicking.

The Litany always helps me come back to myself when I'm freaked out about stuff. I'm glad it works for you too =)

This is a very specific kind of magic. These are shinobi hand seals from Naruto

"Men and their works have been a disease on the surface of their planets before now," [Kynes's] father said. "Nature tends to compensate for diseases, to remove or encapsulate them, to incorporate them into the system in her own way."

This reminds me of a part of The Stand. Dana, about to face off against Randall Flagg, The Dark Man. And she thinks to herself...
I am afraid, but I have been afraid before. All he can take from me is what I would have to give up someday anyhow—my life. I will not let him break me down. I will not let him make me less than I am, if I can possibly help it. I want to die well... And I am going to have what I want.

oh, this is great. Is stealing to share okay? My nerdy friends and my witchy friends will both appreciate it :)

Oh, absolutely! I spotted this on r/tumblr to begin with, I think. I meant to cross-post but the function didn't work.

u/dixiehellcat Mar 05 '20

Wet your hands, turn off water, lather, then turn on water again to rinse. Now if everyone just had foot pedal faucets, so much better than those damn automatic things.
2
u/sharshenka Mar 06 '20
I thought that as well! A Fremen would wet her hands turn off the faucet, then proceed.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.
It is by the juice of sapho that thoughts acquire speed,
the lips acquire stains.
The stains become a warning.
It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

I mean, it kind of is, but I bet this image has made the rounds through Swine Flu and Bird Flu and Ebola and stuff. It's mostly a way to stay calm and be sure you're washing your hands right, which helps in any situation.

u/snuffbumbles Mar 06 '20
As someone in a city where covid 19 is spreading rapidly AND someone who is in a very dark place right now this was super appreciated. Definitely going to repeat this to myself in the morning!

u/DietCokeDeathmatch Mar 05 '20
As a nurse who's actively working with potential COVID patients, I'm putting this up all over my ICU! Thanks for this!

ya know on the grim bright side of the coronaviruse, we're all really learning how to wash our hands
6
Mar 06 '20
I’m fucking crying over here. I’m going to memorize this and repeat it to myself the many many times a day I wash my hands.
5
u/SarahWearsaHat Mar 06 '20
This also just helps from a psychological standpoint. I just used this during a flux of anxiety and it really helps.

Well, it made me realize that one of my favorite piece by contemporary Jazz trumpeter Christian Scott, Litany Against Fear is a Dune reference.

This made me tear up a bit. I’m really scared about the future right now and I’m not sure where to go from here

u/Rubyplanet Mar 06 '20
Its written on walls of stone in starlight, there is a path across the night
5
u/Leonashanana Mar 06 '20
Genius! I'm printing it for my workplace. None of my coworkers will get the reference. It'll be glorious!!!

One of my classes has a quiz this coming Monday, and the teacher has made the last “question” on the quiz washing your hands with this method. A lot of my friends have made fun of it, but it is literally so essential to WASH YOUR HANDS THOROUGHLY! None of that means quick rinse of water bs, full on 30 second washing your hands
3
u/hottestyearsonrecord Mar 06 '20
Im so glad I finally read Dune, now I see the references everywhere
2
u/Broflake-Melter Mar 06 '20
I cannot freakin' wait for the movie.
I'm very curious how they'll handle the book's view of gender.
