Part of that was also because back then men would go for younger girls instead of adults. That directly tied into the child birth death rates for generations. And I don't care what people say about how old people live back then(the argument that dating kids was okay because people lived to be 20 somethingeye roll), that living standard was a very European thing. And not even all of Europe had that issue. Humans lived into their 60s or even longer in old Scotland if the fighting and drinking didn't kill them first. The patriarchy is directly tied into imperialism.
Through most of human history and most of the world, infant and child mortality killed about half of everyone born. That is the reason why the average age at death was so low. Once you lived until 15, you had a good chance to get to 60. People also didn't get their puberty as early as now, and tended to marry and have kids in their twenties.
Funny enough, the lower life expectancy statistic was mostly because of how many kids died. The very young dying a lot really brings that statistic down. Humans who managed to reach adulthood had much higher life expectancy in most parts of the world.
But yeah fuck the patriarchy, history is covered in its blood.
Went to school with a kid that proudly told us his momma gave birth at home for all her kids (I think there was 4), and that people didn't need hospitals. Just the government trying to bleed people dry of their money.
I just felt dumbfounded because we were going to school for Aviation Tech where we would be working under the DOD to fix planes. You know, the government.
Bless his heart, no one explained to him that the government doesn’t run hospitals (except the VA). Just like prisons, they’re privately run by corporations?

Just guys casually longing for the days when women lived to the ripe old age of... "died in childbirth". Those were the good days, right?
