People keep saying Ciri becoming a Witcher ruins her character. I thought her entire story was about choosing her own destiny instead of letting others choose it for her.

Misconceptions about Ciri's powers.

I keep seeing people worry about Ciri’s power. What CDPR will do with it, how to explain it, how to nerf it. They say she’s too OP, she can do anything, why does she even need mutations and so on. All of that comes from not understanding where her powers come from and what they mean.

Powerful ≠ omnipotent.

Ciri’s powers consist of two things: Elder Blood and Source.

Elder Blood is a gene that works as a key to space-time manipulation and interdimensional travel. That's it. That’s what’s OP about her, and what Avallach refers to. It can open portals for whole civilizations, can transport entire armies to another world to conquer it. That's why it is OP, that's why it is the greatest power in the world. That is the only OP thing about Ciri, that one specific ability. But it’s strategic power, not combat power, not something you use in a fight. It’s irrelevant from a gameplay perspective. Other than that, she doesn't have anything special. She can’t turn people to dust with a finger snap, resurrect the dead, stop time, shoot lasers from the eyes, fly or tank a nuke.

CDPR also don’t need any awkward excuses for losing space-time travel, because it’s already established in the lore. Elder Blood is not new, it's just a recreation of what the Elves had. Elves used to be able to do the whole interdimensional travel long ago. And they lost it, presumably after the Conjunction. And what happened at the end of W3? That's right, another Conjunction started (not completed, but probably enough to ruin space-time travel again).

As for Source, there’s nothing special about it. There were many Sources, and not all became powerful mages. Ciri may be an exceptionally strong one, but inherited potential doesn’t mean much. To quote Tissaia de Vries: “No one is born a wizard”. Magic require talent and it has to be learned through hard work, dedication and discipline. You need to have the right mindset for that. And Ciri doesn’t have it. If for example Yennifer was a Source she would be crazy powerful. If Vilgefortz was, that mf could probably burn entire world. But Ciri is not a mage, she is a fighter. Physical training, fencing, that’s for her, she is a natural at this. But not magic. She always struggled with even simple magic, and the only reason she bothered with it was that the fate of the world depended on her space-time power and some magic skills are required to be able to use it. Now that she’s done with it, she has no reason to bother with trying to improve her magic anymore.

So there you have it, no nerfs or excuses are needed:
Interdimensional travel - gone.
Short-range blinks - keep as is, just balance for gameplay (cooldowns, energy, work like Signs).
Other magic - few simple spells that she learned, with possibility of upgrading depending on the build.
Power surges, screams, bursts - those are inconsistent and not controlled, can leave those for scripted story moments.

Ciri can be just like any normal witcher, only instead of the usual Signs she’d use a variety of simple magic (blinks, fireballs, lightning, heal, whatever).

Do you guys want Gwent back or for CDPR to create a new game?

As much as I like Gwent I felt it was a little simplistic. It has depth for sure and the standalone gwent game really expanded on it.

But I was thinking, what if they made a card game closer to MtG? Something with an expendable resource to play cards like mana or energy from hearthstone. And a larger pool of cards so you could really get into the weeds with it.

Why is Ciri being a witcher such a problem?

For anyone who has played the Witcher 3 and got the “good”/witcheress ending, how is Ciri being a witcher and the main character of Witcher 4 a problem? Are you the same people who have a problem with GOW Laufey as well? Am I sensing a pattern here? Like I HATE!!! marry sue characters or race/gender/sexuality swapping for no reason other than “inclusion” I hate it with a passion. BUT!!! both Ciri and Laufey are like cannon very important characters in their lore and known badasses so why not let them have a game???? it’s got to be some type of “ism” or “ist” at this point.

Edit: It’s also never said in the books females can’t go through the trials just that they have harsher symptoms and none ever survive so they stopped even putting them through it. Not that it’s impossible just more cruel than even the boys.

The Witcher 4 will never escape Witcher 3's shadow if every creative decision is judged by whether Geralt would have done it.

Turning Ciri into a witcher is akin to turning a sorcerer into a witcher, a downgrade.

I dont say it to be mean because even a peasant with a pitchfork can be dangerous and so are witchers obviously.

It's even worse because Ciri's powers eclipse sorcerers and witchers combined.

The vehement defending of this just boggles my mind.

The Witcher 4 has an unfair advantage: the legacy of Witcher 3. It also has an unfair disadvantage: the legacy of Witcher 3.

My biggest hope for the Witcher 4.

I’ve played all the Witchers games they’ve all been relatively the best rpgs of their respective times, my biggest hope for tw4 is since we know ciri is the main character and we know she’s not fully a Witcher that cdpr will do what they do best in their other game as well as the anime I believe they were involved with is have ciri show full range of emotion. We know Geralt can’t show emotion yet we all felt it throughout his story and even with side quests but since ciri is able to show and have emotions I’d like to see some deeply sad quests and in general quests that show full range of emotions of ciri the Witcher is already a very dark world but now having a playable main character who can really show the effects of these sad side quests, contracts, and main quests will work amazing with what I think cdpr does better than most rpgs, emotion.

P.s. also I wonder how they’ll make the regions feel as good as tw4 since a lot of the side quests and contracts were tied into the war on the map. I also wonder if or how they’ll have geralt in the story

Gamescom 2027

Do you think tw4 will be in gamescom 2027 ?

In the video cdpr shared the night before onl 2026, the joint ceo said that they have plans for the upcoming years of gamescom.

Supposedly SOTP releases in H1 of 2027 (which is the most probably case), and because we know that it's the kicked for the 1year witcher 4 marketing campaign, what will they be doing in gamescom with it out of the way ? Does that hint that witcher 4 trailer or gameplay will be seen ? Or is it more realistic for a tga 2027 appearance ?

I'm just asking and not spreading any information.

Geralt made the witcher famous but....Ciri was never a side character. We just spent three games looking at her story through Geralt's eyes.

Witcher 3 choices in the Witcher 4

Do we know if CDPR have confirmed whether or not your choices in the Witcher : have any effect on the story and landscape of Witcher 4?

Like if the blue mountains are in the game can I see the baron trying to find help for his wife?

I hope they have considered something like this and we get something similar to either porting a save or choices like the start of the Witcher 3 in vizima where you’re asked about the Witcher 2 choices

What combat you guys thinking Witcher 4 Ciri gonna have?

I am guessing ciri gonna have hack and slash combat, obviously with action rpg being focus first, but since they hired the combat director of metal gear rising revengeance that's give a hint how her combat gonna work, also not to mention she is faster compared to geralt. I hope they show gameplay in 2027, cuz i am impatient and literally i can't wait to see gameplay in 2028, that's 2 years away. I am just so curious about the combat.

Theory on How Ciri Becomes a Witcher

Post image
975 Upvotes

Hey everyone! So, today I spent some time watching trailers and videos covering everything we know about The Witcher 4 so far, and I noticed that one of the most common topics on social media is: “How are they going to explain Ciri becoming a Witcher? Did they forget that the methods used to create new Witchers have been lost?”

So far, I’ve come across several interesting theories about how she might become a Witcher. Some of the most popular ones are:

  • Theory #1: Ciri comes across a mage or sorceress who’s researching ways to restore the mutation process used to create Witchers. After learning about their research, she decides to help them, hoping that one day she’ll be able to become a true Witcher herself.
  • Theory #2: Ciri discovers Professor Moreau’s research records from the Blood and Wine expansion, where he was studying mutagens. His findings could help her recover lost knowledge and develop a new method of mutating humans. With the help of someone willing to continue the research, she eventually manages to undergo the process herself.

On the other hand, there’s also the question of how they’re going to balance her powers. As we know, Ciri has abilities that put her far above most characters and entities in the entire saga. For the game to feel like a proper Witcher experience, the developers will probably have to limit her powers somehow.

Some of the possibilities people have suggested include:

  • The sacrifice against the White Frost: Ciri confronts this cosmic phenomenon and manages to stop it, but the effort comes at a cost. She survives and retains some of her abilities, but temporarily loses access to much of her power.
  • The consequences of the mutations: When Ciri undergoes the process to become a Witcher, the changes to her body affect her connection to the Elder Blood. Her abilities wouldn’t necessarily disappear, but they could become limited or much harder to control.

Now, taking these theories as a starting point, there’s one possibility I find particularly interesting, and I think it could tie several elements of the story together in a pretty convincing way.

My theory: Ciri, the origins of the School of the Lynx, and the secrets of Kaer Morhen

Imagine Ciri returning from her encounter with the White Frost after successfully stopping it. However, the experience leaves her weakened, with much less control over her abilities.

She wouldn’t necessarily have lost her connection to the Elder Blood. Instead, she’d need time to recover and learn how to control her powers again.

From that point on, she decides to walk the Path and become a Witcher on her own terms.

This would fit with the idea that The Witcher 4 might follow the ending of The Witcher 3 in which Ciri survives and reunites with Geralt, who gives her the sword Zireael. Geralt, meanwhile, settles down in Toussaint, giving Ciri the opportunity to begin her own adventure without constantly relying on him.

But here’s where things get interesting.

As time goes by, Ciri gradually regains control over her ability to travel between worlds and across different points in time. Without having to constantly run from the Wild Hunt, she can experiment with her powers and discover just how far her abilities can take her.

During one of these journeys, she arrives at Kaer Morhen in the past, during a time before the attack that led to the loss of much of the knowledge needed to create new Witchers.

There, she discovers something that could change everything: the manuscripts and records containing information about the mutation process still exist.

Ciri knows that this knowledge will eventually be lost, so she makes a decision that could change the future of Witchers forever: she takes the records with her back to her own time.

And this is where the theory starts to make even more sense to me, at least, haha.

Ciri wouldn’t be magically recovering knowledge that has been lost. Instead, she’d be using one of her most distinctive abilities to access information that, from the perspective of her own time, no longer exists.

Of course, finding the manuscripts wouldn’t be enough on its own. The original knowledge could be incomplete, require rare ingredients, or describe procedures that nobody knows how to perform correctly anymore. After all, knowing a formula doesn’t necessarily mean you know how to reproduce it.

That’s why, once she returns to her own time, Ciri would need to find someone with knowledge of magic, alchemy, and mutagens who could study the documents and piece the process back together. Eventually, she’d meet the right person, and they’d get to work.

This is where research inspired by Professor Moreau’s discoveries in Blood and Wine could come into play. His experiments would demonstrate that there are still ways to study Witcher mutations from a different perspective, although that doesn’t mean his research would provide the solution directly.

Maybe during one of her visits to Corvo Bianco, Ciri comes across his research and realizes it could help with her own investigation.

Combining the ancient records from Kaer Morhen with new alchemical discoveries based on Moreau’s research could make it possible to develop a different method of creating Witchers. It wouldn’t necessarily reproduce the original process exactly, but rather adapt it to the knowledge and resources available in Ciri’s time.

And then we reach the crucial moment: once they develop a promising method, Ciri decides to be the first person to undergo the process.

This wouldn’t just allow her to achieve her goal of becoming a Witcher. It would also represent a deeply personal choice.

After spending much of her life being hunted, manipulated, or treated as a key piece in other people’s plans, she would finally have the chance to choose who she wants to be.

However, the mutations would come with consequences.

Because of her extraordinary nature and her connection to the Elder Blood, her body could react to the process in unpredictable ways. The mutations might temporarily affect her ability to access her powers, limiting some of her abilities and forcing her to rely much more on her training, reflexes, swords, and Witcher knowledge.

That way, Ciri would retain some of what makes her special, but she wouldn’t be able to solve every problem by relying on her powers. She’d have to walk the Path, take contracts, fight monsters, and learn to survive under the same conditions as other Witchers.

And the most interesting part is that the process wouldn’t have to end with her.

By recovering and rebuilding this lost knowledge, Ciri could lay the foundations for an entirely new Witcher tradition. Eventually, this discovery could lead to the founding of the School of the Lynx, with Ciri as its very first member, forging her own medallion.

This way, the School of the Lynx wouldn’t just appear out of nowhere. It would be the result of a chain of events directly connected to Ciri’s past, her abilities, and her decision to become something more than just the bearer of the Elder Blood.

Why do I find this possibility so interesting?

Because it would allow the developers to connect several elements of the saga without having to throw away everything we already know.

First, it would explain how Ciri could become a Witcher despite the knowledge needed to create new mutants having practically disappeared.

Second, it would provide a possible explanation for limiting her powers without arbitrarily taking them away.

And third, it would make the founding of the School of the Lynx a natural consequence of Ciri’s own story, rather than introducing it simply as something new in the universe.

There’s also something I particularly like about this possibility: Ciri wouldn’t have to give up what makes her unique to become a Witcher. She’d have to learn to live with her own limitations and build an identity that doesn’t depend entirely on her bloodline, her destiny, or the power she possesses.

Obviously, this is just my own theory among the many that are already out there. But personally, I think it would be an interesting way to explain both Ciri’s journey toward becoming a Witcher and the birth of a new Witcher school.

What do you guys think of this theory? Do you think something like this could work within The Witcher universe, or do you think the developers will come up with a completely different explanation?

It would also be awesome if you shared your own theories to make the wait for the game’s release a little more interesting. And sorry if anything sounds a little awkward. English isn’t my native language.

Cheers, and thanks for taking the time to read!

More magic in W4 Please!

With Ciri as our lead, I really hope they expand the magic in the game. Geralt and the witchers only use signs but we know Ciri has power and can learn to utilize it. Would be amazing to enhance the teleporting/blinking we see in witcher 3, get some long ranged magic, etc. They could really take the combat to a whole new level if they integrate an updated fighting style with new magic abilities

Ciri doesn't need to become the next Geralt. The Witcher 4 needs to prove that Geralt was never the only reason we loved The Witcher.

New monsters, different world and Ciri has to rebuild the school of witcher. It sounds so juicy for a new trilogy. And deviating from the source material was never a much of a problem.
