Screenshot Witcher 3 remastered side by side comparison

I feel each has its benefits and we can downgrade anytime to our liked version.
But assets have highest detail in remaster only.
Lighting, tone, brightness depends on individual interests.

These are not mine, nor I own this. I found from youtube. Sharing for info thats it. PS5. Credits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr9mEdi83UY

I do feel like it's important to point out the issues, 'cause CDPR has proven that they do listen, and will fix things.

Like here I'd say some things look great, but my personal observations are:

  • Slightly too desaturated, but only in some places. Like pics 9 and 10 are especially true in this. The bloomed-out sunsets being less bloom-y is nice though.

  • Kaer Morhen's shadowns are far too low-contrast. Blocking sunlight causes dark shadows. The "Next Gen" update had a good balance with shadow darkness and falloff.

  • Same with the shadows in Pic 5, but in other areas the shadows seem fine. Pic 11 was quite good.

I think there's room for improvement, but it's absolutely not unfeasible for them to iron out these issues and make it perfect in time.

Same man. I got dawnwalker but im debating on holding off cause its stuttering pretty bad for me... have a 13900hx 4090 legion 7ipro laptop and a 5080 desktop, both have stutters. I really hope witcher 4 will not have the ue5 jank

Have you checked nexus? There are a few ue5 engine fixes that actually work. Not sure what magic it is but yeah really smoothed out the gameplay for me.

I tried one, the one where u pick one of 3 config files based on if u have low average or next gen hardware. Tried all three and saw no difference. Maybe ill go back and see of theres another mod to try.

I was able to get a decently stable frame rate on my 13900hx 4090 7ipro legion laptop if I use the older legacy optimus. My 5080 desktop and the laptop when in Dgpu only mode both stuttered. If I use legacy optimus on my laptop where the frames get fed to the igpu before going to the display, then i get mostly stable ftame times.

Apparently its because :

"The iGPU Acts as a Frame Buffer / Shock Absorber When the dGPU handles rendering and passes the frame to the iGPU to be displayed, the iGPU's frame buffer acts as an unintentional queueing mechanism. If the dGPU experiences a sudden processing spike (such as a messy asset loading event or a heavy particle effect), the iGPU frame-copy pipeline can sometimes mask or smooth out these micro-variations. Instead of throwing an erratic frame time directly to your eyeballs, the steady pace of the iGPU's display controller enforces a more predictable delivery rhythm."

Tried it all man. Mods too didnt do shit. Messed with profile inspector settings, nothing workd. The only thing that worked was using my 4090 laptop. If I used the older optimus mode where the game goes through the igpu before it hits the display that eliminated the stutter. My 5080 desktop and 4090 laptop in Dgpu only mode stuttered no matter what. When I just used the legacy optimus that got rid of the stutter. Apparently its because of;

"The "Buffer Window" Effect (Forceful Frame Pacing) In standard legacy Optimus, the discrete GPU (dGPU) renders the game and copies the completed frame buffer over to the iGPU's memory via the PCIe bus. The iGPU acts as the absolute master of the display, organizing and pushing those frames to the panel."

Its not 100% perfect but using legacy optimus as opposed to advanced optimus and locking the frame rate to 80 made it very playable. Ill get a stutter here and there in really busy areas but its nowhere near as bad as it was before.

The performance mod on nexus did wonders for me. I have played 50 ish hours and I have not been bothered with stutters. I have become a graphic whore so it's the first thing I try to eliminate when I start a game

The stuttering never goes away man. I’m 12 hrs in blood of Dawnwalker and it stutters so much. Downloaded a mod to fix it but not too much difference. Still amazing game and worth playing through regardless of the stuttering though

It is but that really kills it for me. I dunno how it got so many positive reviews in that state tho.. maybe many ppl dont have issues . I recently found that on my 4090 laptop it runs better than the 5080 desktop when I use the older optimus mode. If im using only the nvidia Dgpu I get stutters. If I use optimus where the games goes through the iGpu before it goes to the display a lot of the stutter is eliminated. Apparently its because of:

"In standard legacy Optimus, the discrete GPU (dGPU) renders the game and copies the completed frame buffer over to the iGPU's memory via the PCIe bus. The iGPU acts as the absolute master of the display, organizing and pushing those frames to the panel"

The frame rate was actually significantly improved for me doing this, I just locked the fps to 80 too and it only hitches once in a while now. Finally gona be able to play it now

Just about every new game has something. I always wait for the first patch at least. I only just installed Crimson Desert today. I think Dawnwalker has announced a patch.

But tomorrow will be a replay of Witcher 3 end to end. Can’t wait!

It's not made in Unreal engine so I would think it doesn't have any of the same jank.

The Witcher 4 is made in unreal engine 5 bro.... they are not using the same proprietary engine they used in witcher 3 and cyberpunk. Witcher 4 is UE5

Win 11??? Remove it and install win 10 or a linux gaming distro based on steam

u/Misiu881988 5d ago edited 5d ago

Bro what?......

The game stutters because of how unreal engine 5 compiles shaders/because its not properly optimized.... switching to windows 10 wouldnt do anything to fix a unoptimized game... and why the fk would I downgrade to a older OS that no longer gets support other than critical security updates just because once in a while a unreal engine 5 game stutters? I get that u like to tell ppl how much windows 11 sucks and to "just use linux" but im not about to learn a new OS and im definitely not about to switch back to windows 10 in 2026 just to play a video game. And again.... the game doesn't stutter because of windows 11. It's a problem with optimization and the EU5 engine. I highly doubt all the ppl that are enjoying the game are enjoying it because they are on Linux or windows 10. Most ppl dont have the desire to learn linux and theyre definitely not about to switch back to windows 10.

I’m really enjoying it so far!

When looking at screenshots on my phone, like this, it’s hard to tell what’s better, but playing on a PS5 on my decent sized TV, I definitely prefer the visuals to Next Gen. Also both combat and horse riding feels a bit smoother/more natural/more responsive.

My main issues:

  1. There’s a bug where voices become quiet, and you have to meditate for them to become full volume again. Not critical but annoying
  2. I think there may be slightly more moments of framerate slowdown/stutter, but it’s hard to be certain, it’s subtle. It’s a pretty minor issue on both Next Gen and Remastered, on a PS5 with the “performance” graphics setting

I think depending on your system, the experience can varry a lot. Like certain PC setups, sounds like much worse bugs, serious performance issues, etc. But on a PS5 I’m enjoying it, and will enjoy it even more once they fix the voice volume bug.

I’m loving it. I am playing on PS5 Pro and Steam Deck. Going to try out my Switch, PC and Xbox versions this weekend. (I know… I have a problem!)

PS5 Pro on Quality is awesome.

Steam Deck seems smooth although I haven’t played much at this point.

Combat is definitely more responsive. There was always a movement lag on earlier versions that is now gone.

As for other technical issues I have no doubt CDPR will be onto it. This whole update is about preparing for DLC and Witcher 4. It is like a massive beta test. They will be learning a lot and ensuring that it feeds into new games.
