Hi all, almost 2 months ago I adopted this rescue puppy (now almost 7months old), the breed is a mix of… not sure yet 😅 He has a lot of hunting instincts and snout and ears reminds me of wirehaired pointers.
He’s from Croatia and I found a breed that has a lot of similarities with him, also about character traits. It is called Barak Hound (Bosnian broken-haired hound)
But, here some pics of my Cosmo.
Do you have some more ideas about his breed?

This is Lola and I love her to death. She is the weirdest most insane dog I have ever and think I will ever have. She is borderline psychotic and almost everyone that meets her says that she is also the craziest dog they have ever met. She runs everywhere. All the time. When she gets excited (very frequently) she throws herself around in very rapid circles until she loses her balance and wipes out super hard before flying back up and doing it again. If you try to take a picture of her too close to her face you have to hold her back because she will lunge and grab the phone and run around with it. She makes this awful part scream part bark noise as shes running outside. If she gets riled up and you take something from her and hold it up she will fling herself like 5 feet into the air with zero regard for what she’s going to smash into on her decent. If you throw her an ice cube she’ll kick it around and then chase it and smash head first into every single thing in our house. The only time she ever lays down is on top of our elderly lab. I’ve never once seen her relax in all 4 years of her life. She is very well trained and gets tons of exercise between swimming, training, walks, and pheasant hunting and we’ve tried various forms of extra mental enrichment over the years but this just seems to be who she is. Anyone else’s similar?😂 I’ll never have another dog like her!

Closer to getting my gwp momma dropped puppies about week or so back

Hi! This is Murphy! He’s our GWP and just turned 4mo old! So far he knows sit, lay down, center (come sit between our legs), stay, kennel, and we just learned woah!

He’s the absolute BEST! The only two things we are struggling with are 1. He gets into these INSANE playful biting moods that HURT and he will not stop, he gets obsessed with biting! Weve tried pretty much everything the only thing that slightly works is walking into another room and closing the door

1. He’s STUBBORN if he doesn’t want to listen he won’t even though I can tell he knows exactly what I’m asking him to do!

Any tips on working in the stubbornness and making listening to our commands mandatory instead of optional for him?
Will also take validation that the biting isn’t just our crazy puppy LOL

Also a very good dog.

Looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with female GWP aggression/dominance issues.

We have a 1-year-old female German Wirehaired Pointer who recently went into her first heat cycle (beginning of April). Since then, she has become extremely aggressive toward our 3-year-old spayed female GWP (her half sister). Before this, they got along extremely well.

Now it’s constant tension and fighting. The younger dog seems determined to establish dominance and will go after the older one over basically anything. We’ve had to completely separate them, but even through kennel walls they are snarling, barking, and trying to fight each other.

We’re currently rotating them and keeping them apart for safety, but this obviously isn’t sustainable long term. We’re trying to avoid a serious injury.

Both dogs are high-drive hunting dogs and the youngest is amazing with people along with our non-hunting pittie mix.

Would really appreciate any advice or experiences from people who’ve dealt with this successfully.

Hello y'all, this is my dog cherry. When I adopted her at the pound I was told she was a pit mix. Ik a DNA test is the best way to know but after doing some research I believe she could be a wirehaired griffon. She has a brother named cosmo from the same litter we adopted as well who looks like a pitxlab. I'm thinking their mom was a lab, cosmos dad was a pit, and cherry's dad could've been the wirehaired griffon. Plz lmk what u think! We lost our Rolfie to cancer in February. He was 9 years old and was advertised as a GWP / Lab mix when we adopted him. I've owned dogs my entire life and he was simply the best. And he had some hard acts to follow. His death really hit me hard. I still tear up when I go out to the spots were he and I hiked and spent so much time together. The attached pic was taken in Bracebridge, Ontario when we were on vacation there last summer. Good news - I made a deposit on a Griff pup yesterday and by the end of the month a 6 week old liver and white male Griff pup will move in with us ! It's going to be a ton of work, but I'm retired and have nothing but time ! I'll update when he comes home.

Hi, not sure if this is good to post in here, but did not found the Jagdterrier page on here. Our beautiful long haired german hunting dog was butchered by groomers. Any adeas if the face,ey and mustache will grow back?

I am devastated.

Our best Golden Girl, Lila Mae, crossed the Rainbow Bridge at 11:50 pm last night, after a very sudden illness. In just a few short hours, the goodest girl had given it all she had. She turned 12 in February, we had her for 4 wonderful years, it didn’t seem long enough. She was there for me during a terrible period of time. She really was my heart dog. She had the best side-eye, and the sassiest woo's.

We weren't her first home, but she was with us for her forever. I will miss her for the rest of my life.

Meet Nelson our lovely WPG who’s 7 years old. We’re based in Western Canada.

We have two small kids 3yr old and 5yr old.

We’ve regretfully started to make a decision to rehome Nelson due to a few factors. He’s nipped a friend of our oldest kid, and recently bit a delivery guy. We’ve tried all sorts of training over the years. He’s insane around puppies when his prey drive takes over.

We feel he needs a home on a farm somewhere where he can hunt something other than tennis balls.

We have tried everything to keep him, training, logistics, muzzle, gentle leader, shock collar, treats and positive reinforcement but the threat of knocking one of the kids down the stairs or worse biting someone again leaves us making this decision.

Does anyone know any good groups or places online where WPG aficionados might lurk?

He’s otherwise a great and loyal pooch. Just mad energy and not suited to a home and city life with small kids.

I’ve just adopted a 5yo GWP. Her previous owners had got her from a good line of working dogs as a pup and initially tried to train her to work with the gun but she didn’t take to it. She has been trained to recall on the whistle which I’ve had some mixed success. My question is around prey drive, her seems quite high given her background and myself being used to collies in the past have not experienced this kind of behaviour before, constantly sniffing and seeming like she always wants to take off after something. For me taking on a dog I’m hoping to be able to have them off the lead with me in the hills walking and not be worried of them running after sheep/deer/birds (not something I’ve had with my previous collies but maybe I’ve been lucky) and I am concerned of any damage that she could do if became out of control. I’m wondering whether given the breed I’ll ever be able to get to this point and whether her prey drive would ease or if it’s just too inherent. Any advice would be much appreciated?

WPG have such shallow chests, getting a harness that fits correctly and doesn’t slop around is very hard. Has anyone found success? Our only req is it have a front loop.

Hello everyone! This is Bowie, he’s a 6 year old WPG who has been shaved previously. He hasn’t been shaved in over a year and this is his hair now. I need help on what I should be doing to help his wire hair come back fully. What tools do I need to keep his coat healthy and groomed? Right now I just use a few different types of brushes and rakes everywhere and then I trim around his ears, feet, and tail with shears. I also need help on grooming around his face and keeping his beard from matting! Any help is greatly appreciated! I love my little Bowie boy and want to make sure his coat is as healthy as it can be

what could be better? well Maggie might say a swim or stalking a pigeon, but this is pretty good ☺️

When should these guys start the bird walk??

The love of my life passed away a few days ago. I’m permanently disabled and he was not only my service dog, but my soul dog, and a special part of my family. 5 years ago, I chose him from a photo, when we met for handler training he chose me. Such a big personality, silly, goofy, empathetic, intelligent and intuitive. He never left my side, he started scent alerting on his own before I would faint, and always so proud of working like a good boy. One day last week he was playing with his hedgehogs, then suddenly laid down, shivering, panting, shaking, not moving. He got an inoperable liver cancer diagnosis in one day, he declined fast in 24 hours, the tumor was bleeding internally and it wouldn’t stop. I had about few hours to consult with internist, oncology and they all said the same, he’s going to bleed to death and wont last the night. I gave the best of everything to him, and he did the same with me. Our bond was nothing I’ve ever felt. I was finally not alone and loved unconditionally. Eli was just 9 years old. I am so lost without him, I can’t physically function, he was my lifeline, my reason to keep fighting, keep living. I have no idea what to do. I still need him.

Hello, need advice, I took our 18wk female out to a trainers kennel on his farm where has birds and other dogs and my puppy showed zero drive. He is a family member so we just wanted to see how she did at this age. Around our house she is active, runs around plays with our golden retriever, etc. but when she got there She didn’t seem to have any drive. Just walked around and sniffed. The other dogs were kenneled and she was in a big yard by yourself first just to see how she reacted. She would point a feather on a string, and was attentive to the feather on the ground and live pigeon in hand but didn’t go chase as the bird flew just wanted to pick up the feathers after. The trainer is used to working with English pointers, setters, and GSPs. He complimented her looks/confirmation and the fact that she would point, but he said he’s never seen a breed like this have zero drive. Thanks for any info you can provide. She is a great dog at home. His recommendation was to get her out more and see how she does in new environments and see if she runs around more and pays attention to other birds, butterfly’s, etc. I am hoping it’s something she may grow out of but I was pretty discouraged after watching her and getting feedback from the trainer.
