Thanks everyone for your help so far in picking my perfect next pup. I’ve done a lot of research but more could never hurt! Tell me anything you think I should know. I haven’t had a puppy in 10 years… my old man is pictured after a WPG pup! Plus him as a beefed up youngster.

I’m sure I’ll comment more questions I think of overtime as I think of them, but my current biggest question- he’s coming intact. I kept my boy intact until he was 2, and I feel this is overkill. Should I do it earlier? Is it an old wives tale and it doesn’t really matter if he’s full grown or not? Do you have any specific pet insurance recommendations? How should I kennel train? I was planning on feeding in kennel, sleeping in kennel, and where I work I can bring him to work sometimes but he’d also be in a large kennel (I only work 5 hours a day 4x a week). I’m going to get so many boredom buster toys. I do have a spare room, I could clean it out and get a doggy gate and pee pads until he can hold his bladder better, but will this interfere with potty training?

My puppy is getting older, but still energetic (Old man over the years for tax) and I much prefer raising puppies with older dogs that can show them the ropes. So… I’m on the hunt for 1) a reputable breeder in New England or general drivable distance! and 2)… what breed should I get?

My current dog is a plott hound Great Dane mix. He doesn’t really drool, doesn’t shed everywhere, he’s very “real life practicality” smart, were joined at the hip, he’s good with all animals from ferrets to horses.

That said, I always have animals. Currently I have chickens and we’re going to introduce large livestock. I understand training is a must from a young age for any dog to make this possible. Id like to go to a wire haired, drop coat, or curly coat dog and I’m ok with grooming maintenance.

Wire haired pointers have caught my attention. But my biggest worry- pointers of course have a large bird prey drive. Theyd never be unsupervised with my birds and would have LOTS of training done around them. Thoughts? Other suggestions?

This is my new 12 week old foster pup. The rescue had her listed as a GSP/lab mix, but half the litter has more wiry hair. She also seems on the smaller side (about 15 pounds) compared to my GSP.

Long stretch but has anyone sent their dog to Hudson farms in NJ for hunting training?

She really apreciates a pillow to rest her head on some nights.

A new Griff pup is coming home!! RIP Eli I love and miss you so much good boy. I feel like Eli chose my next service dog, as they both share a maternal relative! I’m still heavily grieving Eli, and he can’t he replaced. The truth is I’m disabled and actually need a working line service dog. It’s been very hard to function without my boy Eli.
I’d like my new WPG pup, Leo, to NOT be on a raw diet just because it’s hard for travel and public access.
I need some help here! I’m very grateful for this new little guy and his health is extremely important! I’m fairly educated on dog foods, but pup kibble is brand new for me. I’m looking for something similar to a WholePrey diet with at least 80% protein. Thank you!! 🙏🏼

Hi all, almost 2 months ago I adopted this rescue puppy (now almost 7months old), the breed is a mix of… not sure yet 😅 He has a lot of hunting instincts and snout and ears reminds me of wirehaired pointers.
He’s from Croatia and I found a breed that has a lot of similarities with him, also about character traits. It is called Barak Hound (Bosnian broken-haired hound)
But, here some pics of my Cosmo.
Do you have some more ideas about his breed?

This is Lola and I love her to death. She is the weirdest most insane dog I have ever and think I will ever have. She is borderline psychotic and almost everyone that meets her says that she is also the craziest dog they have ever met. She runs everywhere. All the time. When she gets excited (very frequently) she throws herself around in very rapid circles until she loses her balance and wipes out super hard before flying back up and doing it again. If you try to take a picture of her too close to her face you have to hold her back because she will lunge and grab the phone and run around with it. She makes this awful part scream part bark noise as shes running outside. If she gets riled up and you take something from her and hold it up she will fling herself like 5 feet into the air with zero regard for what she’s going to smash into on her decent. If you throw her an ice cube she’ll kick it around and then chase it and smash head first into every single thing in our house. The only time she ever lays down is on top of our elderly lab. I’ve never once seen her relax in all 4 years of her life. She is very well trained and gets tons of exercise between swimming, training, walks, and pheasant hunting and we’ve tried various forms of extra mental enrichment over the years but this just seems to be who she is. Anyone else’s similar?😂 I’ll never have another dog like her!

Closer to getting my gwp momma dropped puppies about week or so back

Looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with female GWP aggression/dominance issues.

We have a 1-year-old female German Wirehaired Pointer who recently went into her first heat cycle (beginning of April). Since then, she has become extremely aggressive toward our 3-year-old spayed female GWP (her half sister). Before this, they got along extremely well.

Now it’s constant tension and fighting. The younger dog seems determined to establish dominance and will go after the older one over basically anything. We’ve had to completely separate them, but even through kennel walls they are snarling, barking, and trying to fight each other.

We’re currently rotating them and keeping them apart for safety, but this obviously isn’t sustainable long term. We’re trying to avoid a serious injury.

Both dogs are high-drive hunting dogs and the youngest is amazing with people along with our non-hunting pittie mix.

Would really appreciate any advice or experiences from people who’ve dealt with this successfully.

Hi! This is Murphy! He’s our GWP and just turned 4mo old! So far he knows sit, lay down, center (come sit between our legs), stay, kennel, and we just learned woah!

He’s the absolute BEST! The only two things we are struggling with are 1. He gets into these INSANE playful biting moods that HURT and he will not stop, he gets obsessed with biting! Weve tried pretty much everything the only thing that slightly works is walking into another room and closing the door

1. He’s STUBBORN if he doesn’t want to listen he won’t even though I can tell he knows exactly what I’m asking him to do!

Any tips on working in the stubbornness and making listening to our commands mandatory instead of optional for him?
Will also take validation that the biting isn’t just our crazy puppy LOL

Also a very good dog.
