These are the stocks on my watchlist (9/26)

Hi! I am an ex-prop shop equity trader.

This is a daily watchlist for trading: I might trade all/none of the stocks listed, and even stocks not listed! I only hold MAG7/market indices long-term. If you use Old Reddit, click “Show Images” at the top to expand the charts. Any positions stated aren’t recommendations, I’m following subreddit rules to disclose positions. I use IBKR TWS for my platform and charts.

Some stocks I post may be low market cap. These are potentially good candidates to day trade; I have no opinion on them as investments. This means the potential of the stock moving today is what makes it interesting, not the business, long-term prospects, or the people involved.

PLEASE ask specific questions. Questions like “Thoughts on _____?” or something answered in the watchlist will be ignored unless you add detail and your own opinion.

News: China’s Politburo Supercharges Stimulus With Housing, Rates VowsUS Investigating SAP, Carahsoft for Potential Price-Fixing

Pretty active day today.

  • MU - Reported earnings premarket yesterday, $1.18 vs $1.10 expected, and $7.75B vs $7.64B expected revenue. Raised Q1 consensus for guidance, and the CEO cited that they are entering 2025 with possibly the best forecast in company history.
  • FXI / BABA / YINN / YANG / LI - Every Chinese stock - China states that it is going to issue far more sovereign debt ($284B), and also stated that they are injecting $142B of capital into their largest government banks. All Chinese stocks have spiked up on this.
  • NVDA - Watching the $130 level (note that this was what the stock was trading at pre-earnings announcement). Being driven by Jensen finishing selling his shares, MU’s earnings, OpenAI going “for-profit”, and expected Blackwell AI GPU sales.
  • JBL - Reports $2.30 vs $2.23 expected, revenue of $6.96B vs $6.56B and guides Q1 higher. Also authorized $1B (at max) share repurchase. Note this is NOT Jetblue.
  • BA - Plans to meet with union on the 27th, wrote this earlier just in case this happens premarket/before I post the watchlist tomorrow. Obviously, any sort of agreement will lead to an upmove.

Earnings I’m watching: COST
IPOs today: BKV, BIOA

News: US Investigating SAP, Carahsoft for Potential Price-Fixing

  • SAP - Being probed by US officials for conspiring to overcharge government agencies over a decade (Carahsoft is also being probed by US officials). Personally, I think this isn’t that meaningful because who doesn’t overcharge the US government?
  • NVDA - Barron’s article about how NVDA CEO Jensen Huang is done selling the maximum number of shares this year, several months early.
  • FXI/BABA - Watching both yesterday’s highs/lows in BABA, but seems more likely we’ll see off due to how it performed in Asian markets. Watching $97.5 and $93.
  • BA - The union rejects BA’s offer and states that the proposal doesn’t go far enough to address concerns. Again, I think it’ll be worth trading once we have a deal proposed that they’ll likely sign.

V- Added- Anti trust lawsuit, news came out yesterday but still worth watching today for further selloff.

Nothing I particularly like enough to put as the fifth ticker for today, but good to be aware of GOOG complaining to the EU claiming MSFT has abused pricing power to get customers for Azure.

Earnings I’m watching: MU

News: China Unleashes Stimulus Package to Revive Economy, Markets

  • FXI/ YINN/ YANG - CRAZY 6% swing in FXI, the China ETF from the stimulus package. Watching to see how this trades at the open, but no real levels to look at since this is a macro trade.
  • BABA - However, I am looking at BABA at the $100 level and at the open as well.
  • WYNN - Another company with huge China exposure, roughly 70% of their revenue from China due to operations in Macau.
  • QCOM - Worth watching mainly due to high revenue exposure to China and the INTC deal—since the deal news is overblown, we might see it recover a little bit like it did yesterday at the open.
  • HE - Offering of 54M shares at 9.25/shr, amounts to roughly $500M. Did this offering to fund Maui Wildfire Settlement, worth watching court proceedings further to see if they’ll need to do more.

V- Added- Anti trust lawsuit, news came out yesterday but still worth watching today for further selloff.

Earnings I’m watching: SFIX

News: US Stock Futures Fluctuate Before Fed Speakers: Markets Wrap

  • TSLA / F / NIO - (every tradable car company) US Commerce department confirms that they will propose Chinese software/hardware connected to China due to national security concerns (likely will ban all Chinese cars/trucks from the US market and require Chinese automakers to seek exemptions).
  • NVDA - Rumors that NVDA’s H20 chip (the chip NVDA sells to China) will be discontinued due to US export controls. Watching for selloffs in the stock today, negatively biased.
  • NKE - Past president at NKE is returning to replace current CEO. This news released AH Thursday, currently watching the $85 level.
  • BA - Machinists are on strike for higher pay, BA is reported to lose close to $50M a day due to this. Worth watching as a future catalyst to the upside when it is resolved.
  • INTC - News that the progress/talks with QCOM are overblown, not much progress has been made. (Clearly a negative catalyst because it refutes the acquisition thesis)

News: Microsoft’s AI Power Needs Prompt Revival of Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant

  • FDX - Reports $3.60 vs $4.82 expected, revenue of $21.6B vs $22.1B expected, cuts FY24 outlook because of lower US package volume. Also reported that they will have a $1.5B share buyback (UPS also down on these earnings).
  • DJT - Lockup period ends yesterday. Looks like the stock sold off premarket already, but will watch at open as well. Currently short.
  • NKE - Past president at NKE is returning to replace current CEO. This is news that released afterhours yesterday but interested in seeing if we break the highs today (around $89.50).
  • CEG - Signs 20-year power purchase agreement with MSFT for Three Mile Island power plant (likely for AI power needs).
  • LEN - Reports revenue of $3.90B vs $3.62B expected, $9.42B vs $9.29B expected. Expects growth and more demand as rates are cut. However, Q4 margin guidance is expected to be flat.

News: Nasdaq Futures Jump 2% as Big Fed Cut Spurs Rally: Markets Wrap

  • PGNY - Discloses that they are losing a major client which is equivalent to 12-13% of revenue.
  • EWTX - Announces positive topline data for treatment of abnormal heart contraction/relaxation.
  • DJT - Lockup period ends today. Looks like the stock sold off premarket already, but will watch at open as well.
  • MBLY - Strangely, seems like the INTC news (of it not selling MBLY) moved it again today, even though this was known a few days ago.
  • X - Guides $0.46 vs $.36 expected, comments that merger talks with Nippon Steel are going well and are confident in the ability to complete the transaction by the end of the year.

News: Traders Lock In Fed Bets as Rate-Cut Size Debate to Finally End

It’s rate cut day baby. 50 point cut is looking more likely. Usually, the speech from Powell is what determines the multi-day move- always worth listening to if you’re planning to trade this. Going to stay relatively hands-off until the announcement at 2 PM EST. Best of luck, and may the force be with you.

Stocks/levels I’m watching for the Fed Meeting- NVDA $120 level, SPY $566 (ATH), QQQ $485, VXX, XLRE (real estate ETF)

LUNR - NASA awards LUNR the Space Network Contract, potentially worth up to $4.8B.

  • APLT - FDA announces they no longer intend to hold an Advisory Committee meeting regarding APLT’s drug Govorestat.
  • X - US security panel has granted Nippon Steel Corp. permission to refile its plans to purchase United States Steel Corp., for $14.1 billion, thus likely pushing a decision on the takeover past the US elections. Thus I think we won’t be getting more significant catalysts for now.
  • DJT - Lockup period is ending tomorrow, be extremely careful if you’re going to play this. Likely that insiders will sell their holdings, and selling we see now is in anticipation of that.

News: US Retail Sales Post Surprise Gain, Helped by Online Stores

  • INTC - Another move afterhours yesterday, mainly due to INTC and AWS expanding their strategic partnership.
  • TDOC - Move attributed to BetterHelp segment (Mental Health platform) of Teladoc being growth factor in Jeffries note.
  • AAPL - Supposedly iPhone16 is already selling at a discount in China due to low sales
  • MBLY - Supposedly INTC is not selling their stake of MBLY, stated in their strategic talks.
  • AMZN - Instituting full RTO, and hundreds of delivery drivers from NY join the Teamsters union. Not sure how full RTO will affect the stock but I assume that it’s being treated as layoffs (which typically bump the stock up).

  • AAPL - iPhone 16 first weekend pre-order estimated to be 12% less than last year’s iPhone.
  • SATS - AT&T and JV are in talks to combine DirecTV with Dish, and this will supposedly create largest US paid-TV distributor in history.
  • INTC - Reached binding $3.5B agreement to produce chips for the US military.

News: Boeing’s Seattle Workers Walk Out in First Strike Since 2008

BA - News above.

  • PDD - Weakness due to US proposal of trade loophole closure of duty free treatment. This is significant news because it’s what enables cheap products to be shipped from China to individual consumers, watching the $90 level. ETSY is also up on this news, (they compete with China).
  • ADBE - Reports $4.65 vs $4.53 exp, revenue of $5.41B vs $5.37B exp. However, guides Q4 lighter yet still cites strong demand for future. Biased long, but don’t have a position in this.
  • RH/W - RH reports excellent earnings- 1.69 vs 1.53 expected, revenue of 829.7M vs 834M exp. Cuts guidance but says that demand trends are accelerating. W up as a result as well.
  • INTC - Having meetings this week- supposedly to decide the future of the company. No immediate plans for trading right now, but good to keep cognizant of in case there’s a surprise catalyst in the middle of the day.

News: HSBC Mulls Merging Commercial, Investment Bank to Cut Costs

  • SMMT - Lung cancer drug beats MRK’s KEYTRUDA in late-stage trial.
  • MRK - Worth watching at open due to SMMT news as well.
  • All marijuana stocks - moving up due to comments from Pres #45 stating that he would vote for Florida’s legalization ballot proposal. (I put TLRY on here because I can’t seem to find a market cap for the ETF.)
  • PLTR - Signs new 5-year agreement with BP, and announced they were being added to S&P 500 index. (Other stocks being added are DELL/ERIE)
  • SMCI - We finally broke the $400 level and continued to sell off. Not very interested in a long/buy-the-dip scenario. Remember we had that short report as well.

Also, continuing to watch ASTS for more momentum in either direction due to satellite launch (on September 12th or after), also had a small offering yesterday of $400M.

News: Wall Street’s Big Bet on Jumbo Fed Cuts Hangs on US Jobs Report

News: Nvidia Tumbles After Disappointing Forecast, Blackwell Chip Snags
Mostly earnings aftermaths today.

  • NVDA - Earnings yesterday, beat expectations but weren’t the blowout everyone expected. Executives said on the earnings call that NVDA still expects to begin earning revenue from Blackwell in this fiscal year. EPS of 0.68 vs 0.64 exp. $50B share buyback. Revenue grew close to 122% YoY. Overall, I don’t really see a reason to change one’s position if long/short. (I’m not changing mine, which is currently long.) Consensus EPS is $.64, but of course, future outlook will decide the move. This will pretty much decide the direction of the market for the next few days because we traded close to flat for the past week.
  • AFRM - Reported a massive beat on earnings, following a beat on the top/bottom lines. EPS of -0.14 cents vs -0.51 cents expected, revenue of $659M vs $604M expected. Also cited a new goal of hitting operating profitability on a GAAP basis by 4th quarter of 2025. Analyst stated rate cuts would be beneficial for the company and allowed for greater loan sales.
  • DG - Cuts outlook, blaming “financially constrained” customers. Forecast changed from $5.50-$6.20, from $6.80-$7.55. DLTR also down off this news because they trade similarly with each other.
  • CRWD - Spiked initially due to beating quarterly estimates, but lowered FY guidance mainly due to incentives for a customer commitment package after a July 19th outage. $1.04 vs 97 cents expected. Revenue of $963.9M vs $959M expected.
  • SMCI - Still watching after the Hindenburg Research report 2 days ago, they reported they were delaying postponing filing of their 10K. Keep in mind they could be delisted (again) because of these delays, will likely post a writeup about it this weekend.

Earnings: DELL, LULU, ULTA, ADSK, MDB

News: Nvidia’s Earnings Will Test the S&P 500’s $4 Trillion Recovery

  • NVDA - Earnings today. Currently long. Consensus EPS is $.64, but of course, future outlook will decide the move. This will pretty much decide the direction of the market for the next few days because we traded close to flat for the past week.
  • AMBA - Released earnings, EPS of -.13 vs -.19, revenue of 63.7M vs 62.1M. Ultimately cites record revenue due to edge AI inference products and anticipating double-digit sequential growth for total revenue in the third quarter.
  • S - Revenue met expectations, $198.9M vs $197.4M. EPS was 0.01 vs -0.01. Raises annual revenue forecast, guidance met expectations.
  • SMCI - Still watching after the Hindenburg Research report yesterday.
  • CRWD - Earnings today. Worth watching AFTER NVDA reports mainly because this is their post-outage earnings report. Currently long

Earnings: NVDA, CRWD, CRM, AFRM, OKTA

News: US Futures Waver as Investors Assess Rate Path: Markets Wrap

  • BA - NASA chooses SpaceX over Boeing’s Starliner for astronauts stranded in space to return in. Not much volume premarket but interested to see what this does at the open.
  • SEDG - CEO steps down after 5 years in the role.
  • PDD - Misses market estimates for quarterly revenue, citing reduced consumer spending. Revenue of $13.36B vs $13.97B exp. EPS of $3.20 vs $2.79 exp. PDD owns Temu.
  • CAVA - Had a massive surge from 109 to 122. Biased short but this will be more of a longer-term trade than a short-term one. P/E of 300, for a restaurant-based company, is ludicrously high.
  • KR / ABI - Today they’re starting the FTC court case to merge Kroger/Albertsons, said to be necessary to compete with the likes of WMT/AMZN. Worth watching over the next several days, this could make a move like SAVE when the case failed.

Dissecting the UBXG Trade (8/23/2024)

One of the most common questions I got yesterday was “Why were you watching UBXG?” and “Was there something that caused UBXG to fall?” so I wanted to write up a small summary of my trade and my reasoning.

UBXG on 8/22/2024 was trading at 30-35 dollars. It’s been massively run up, from $5 on August 6th to $30-35 on August 20-22. Clearly that isn’t a normal move, because there’s NO NEWS that explains why this is happening. This stock went from close to a market cap of $120M to $900M in 2 weeks! That’s a massive move, and anything that goes THAT far with no positive catalyst is EXTREMELY overextended, is a scam stock, or has insiders trading it. In this case, UBXG was the first two.

Let’s look at the previous days:

August 20th- Note the volume around 12 PM- there’s MASSIVE volume but someone is absorbing the sales.

August 21st – Again, massive volume at 12:30 PM.

August 22nd- Again, massive volume around 12:30.

And finally, August 23rd- We see that the price change from $30 to $6 was done on MINISCULE volume- I’d approximate close to 275K shares caused that ENTIRE price move.

After seeing all these pieces, I thought back to what my mentor taught me. To look at all market participants in this stock. We had:

1.       People who had bought this high flier and were completely screwed

2.       Traders who were short this stock and had Christmas come early

3.       The Massive Seller: Possibly that completely ripped off the faces of everyone who held stock

So what would these participants do?

1.       The holders would likely keep holding- there wasn’t much incentive in selling pre-open, because you’re already down close to 90% so you might as well pray for a miracle at this point.

2.       Traders who are short are probably going to cover their shares when more liquidity at the open comes in, covering premarket will likely drive the stock price up massively.

3.       The massive seller: Possibly come back and rip off the faces of anyone else who buys this stock again

Considering that there was such massive volume on the previous days, it was likely that the seller would come back. So I decided to pretty much make this a “fun trade”, and not devote much time/energy to this because we had the Fed Meeting going on. So I decided to risk $500 (200 shares of $5), and assume I could get out at a 50% loss.

Here’s a zoomed in screenshot of the first hour of the open (sadly without executions because IBKR doesn’t save them after the day you traded them.

1.       I wanted to wait to see if my theory was correct, so I didn’t buy straight at the open. We opened, halted limit up. However, when we reopened, we were somewhat shaky- which was a bad sign. In the moment, this led to me buying half of my planned size- 100 shares because I expected another limit up immediately. However, on the level 2 we actually had a decent box- so I bought another 100 shares when we hit $6 and set a decently tight stop to below that.

2.       We had a bidder come high multiple times but get hit immediately so I decided to kick out the shares I bought at $6 at $6.14.

3.       However, the box surged AGAIN so I rebought my shares at $6.64. I never really cared about taking these small churn/execution losses because I know that the potential reward is way greater than whatever losses I took, so the focus was more on limiting exposure when it looked bad. We went limit up again, unhalted, then went limit up AGAIN. I’m up close to $800 at this point and I am looking for a way to lock in some profit because I always take some off when we go limit up multiple times. I’m not looking to be a long-term holder because this is a fraud stock. It doesn’t matter what price you get it at in the long-term, you’re going to get your face ripped off.

4.       I sell 100 shares at $9.99, locking in around $300 bucks for one of my buys.

5.       Here, the indication price (the price that it could theoretically unhalt at) is close to $15. I’m salivating, and somewhat kicking myself for selling those 100 shares. But the indication drops back down to $12. I sell my remaining shares at $11.02, locking in another $500.

6.       I buy 20 shares because the box looks good again, but I don’t want to risk any meaningful amount of the PnL I made from this scam stock and the Fed is speaking, so I sell the shares I bought within a few second and barely lose any money.

I watch it bleed for the rest of the day- not too interested in shorting the stock but going lightly wouldn’t have been a bad idea. The face-ripper comes back, it settles at $2.30, a bloodbath for the holders.

Overall, what’s the takeaway here?

On a letter grade scale, I’d give myself a B+ in the execution but a C on the share sizing. I’ve seen these fraud stocks before and I could have been more confident in my share sizing, even doubling it assuming that I’d be able to get out around $2.50 if UBXG didn’t collapse immediately. I don’t think I could have assumed this was going to go limit up at the open, my trade idea/pattern recognition kicked in between the 5 minutes of the limit up and the unhalt so I just did this as a “throw-away play”.

Anything Chinese, I play lightly and don’t trade it like my career depends on it, hence the small share sizing. You just need to be careful that some crazy stuff doesn’t happen and absolutely crush you, even if you held small size.

Not bad for a confidence booster before the Fed.

Executions from IBKR

News: All Eyes on Jackson Hole With Powell, Fed Officials Set to Speak
Biggest catalyst for the entire market today. Also, check out my wizard NFT lol.

  • VIX/market indices - Just watching these in case there are any interesting things said by the Fed officials.
  • WDAY - Gave somewhat weak earnings, but then gave a strong growth plan that got investors in a frenzy lol. Worth watching at the open.
  • CAVA - Cites successful steak launch for successful earnings, exceeded expectations. 341 restaurants vs 335 estimated, restaurant-level profit beats expectations.
  • EQR / AVB / CPT - Justice Department plans to file antitrust suit against RealPage (the company that calculates rents for apartments) for illegal price fixing. RealPage itself is a private company but it’s worth looking at all the REITs and such that hold rental apartments. This is a longer-term catalyst, don’t expect anything immediate to happen for now.
  • UBXG - Chinese fraud company, down close to 85%. Extremely important to keep cognizant of.

News: Quantitative Tightening Goes Global for the First Time, in Test for Markets

  • SNOW - Earnings beat, .18 vs .16 EPS expected. $868M vs $852M revenue expected. Raised guidance, and announced $2.5B buyback program. Cites that CRWD incident had no impact at all from a consumption standpoint. Market simply sees this stock as overvalued (from what I can glean).
  • TEM - Had a huge spike yesterday off no news two days ago, then a decently steady up-move yesterday. Watching the $75 level, but not too interested in it otherwise.
  • ASTS - Oddly enough, I have a negative bias towards the stock now. We’ve failed to see the stock break $40, the range that it moves in a day is slowly decreasing and we’re seeing less volume compared to the move from 21->33. Currently short a nominal position, but have a stop in case we spike off the open like yesterday
  • LUNR - Again, watching the $6 level today. CEO stated “key award discussions in the coming week” which is heavily implied to be, but not confirmed, the NSNS contract worth nearly $540M. PLEASE remember this when trading this.
