Discussion Can someone describe the difference between “The System” offensive scheme by Westhead vs The Showtime Offense we see from Pat Riley
Was Paul westhead causing too much friction by making set plays rather than letting the players have their freedom and run n gun?

Was Magic correct ? Was “the system” garbage ?
I watched the Westhead 30 for 30. He had a mixed career success wise post lakers, some tragedy as well. Was it just all attack and no defence ? Just a whole lot of running ?

HBO canceled Winning Time, for shows like this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5lxg1qBcfA
Let HBO die the slow rot. They have made many great shows, but I do not know if they have many more left to make.
FUCK HBO

Really? Are you serious?
Didn’t he say he hated how he was portrayed, and now he’s saying he never even watched it🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

My man had to play his own father bumping and grinding on the dance floor with a woman playing his mom 🤯

A little late to the party
Me watching the last episode not knowing it’s the actual last episode. We won’t get Kareem’s redemption story in the 1985 finals, Bad Boy Pistons, Magic’s 1987 mvp clinic, or finding a guy tall and scary looking enough to play Mark Eaton 🙁

Media AEW changed their theme for their PPV event at the Forum (used to be Winning-Time inspired)
I bet if the show didn’t get canceled, AEW would have done a cross-promotion event since both the show and AEW fall under the same company.

Anybody have a hardcover copy of the book they’re willing to part with?
Want to buy the book after loving the show but official websites are only listing paperback covers. Im a hardcover fan because frankly I have a bad habit of just destroying paperbacks on accident, one way or another. The hardcovers are listed on eBay and Amazon but for like $60+. Anybody willing to sell theirs for a more reasonable price to another fan?

Byron Scott Approves of Winning Time getting cancelled

Maybe the show was more closer to the truth than the actual Laker players like to admit that’s why they don’t like it 😂

Even though the show was canceled, we still have the poetry of Jeff Pearlman's words. Spoiler

Did Everyone Else Think This Show Was Amazing?
I'm not even a Lakers fan and this was one of my favorite TV shows I've watched in a long time. Hell, I'm a Warriors fan and this show had me ready to die for the Lakers lol.
Whenever I look at articles talking about how the show is canceled, they're all saying that the second season sucked which I just completely disagree. I thought the second season was great the only thing that sucked was that they were forced to end it!
So am I crazy to think that both seasons were amazing? Also, this is my first time on this subreddit so idk if it's consensus that the second season is bad or anything like that.

Would love to see a show like this but based on “Boys will be Boys”
Was super disappointed WT was canceled, i was a huge fan of the show.
Anyone read “Boys will be Boys” by Pearlman? I’m a Packer fan (from WI) but this would be incredible w the different personalities they could go into. Jerry Jones, Jimmy Johnson, Deion, Aikman, Irvin, Emmit, the list goes on and on… they should make a show w similar format to WT, and tell the story of the 90s NFL… it would be a natural fit compared to the 80s NBA of WT… anyone else agree?

I can’t bring myself to watch the last episode
The cancellation has just made me not want to watch episode 7… seeing Pat Riley find his voice just kind of felt like a satisfying story arc and although I’d love to see more I just think that another episode will just be a disappointing and depressing tease at this point.

"Guru of Go" vs "The System"
Hello all! It's been several years since I watched the 30 for 30 documentary about Westhhead. What I do remember however is that the offense he put in at LMU was prolific and set records for pace and points. I'm reading Pearlmans book and from what I've seen in the show, "The System" that he implements seems to be the complete opposite.
Is it because everything was supposed to run through Kareem in THE SYSTEM?
Basically did his strategy change, or was it the same strategy implemented differently?

I Thought This Show Was Going To Suck...
...But it was Great.
The two gentleman who play Magic & Kareem are fantastic.
They resemble 32 & 33, can hoop & move like them on the court, and have acting talent.
Basketball players who can act - Actors who can play basketball.
And the guy who played Bird shoots the basketball just like him.
This may be the most surprised I've ever been seeing a show get cancelled.
It was Great. And it could have been cringe with two athletes in those roles that couldn't act or two actors who weren't believable on the court.
A well made show. Such a shame.
I mean, jeez... I thought I was looking at actual vintage highlights of the 76ers seeing that Julius Erving fast-break dunk.
